Codex Competition

So I was thinking this might be something fun to try; a competition to design a species, a planet, a location and an NPC (in that order).

How it would work is that people interested would fill out a simplified template, basically a concept sheet. The Codex Judges and I would then select the best 3 entries and those people would write a full submission. The CJs and I would then determine a victor. The winner would be the species on the planet which would then be designed etc.
The other two species (and even the concept species from the first part) could also be submitted but would not be part of this competition.
In this and all things we would be looking for 3 main criteria:
  • Originality
  • Depth and balance
  • Usability in a PC environment – we want people to think this species/planet is good to RP with

There will also be prizes for victory in each section, the nature of which will depend on circumstances.

No single writer would be able to win more than one competition.

Thoughts? Interest?

Hell yes! I was there when Tef started the contest to make the Daelite's!

I always love these things, and I've been trying to set one up since day one :p

Unfortunately, I'm incompetent in administrative manor so they've always failed!

But I'm great at suggestions! :D

The prizes will be recognitions and fun stuff. There won't be any beskar super star destroyers or anything like that.

Can I submit stuff I've previously written? The last time someone wanted to do a competition to make species, the guy running it bailed on the site and I ended up making 8 or so subs that... pretty much never get used.

Sure. So long as they weren't submitted formally to the codex, that's no problem.

Ah. Nope. I've got quite the list of former submissions that... I don't think anyone is making use of.

Including a giant lobster that... yeah. We'll leave my electric lobster alone.

And... the dreaded electric lobster.

"a Defibrillator uses around 1,000 volts and a shock of 0.2 amps can be fatal if the individual is not given immediate medical attention. The electrical capabilities of this creature are based on the measurements taken from the real world Electric Eel and scaled up according to the size of this creature. A shock above 2 amps causes muscular contractions that are so severe that the heart is forcibly clamped during the muscle contractions... which is good because it prevents the heart from going into ventricular fibrillation. The real danger here is not the musculature or heart damage caused by the shock screwing with the motor system... it's that shocks of over 500-1000 volts cause extensive internal burning. This thing would likely -cook- its prey when it shocks them.

In hindesight, and after doing further research... I think this critter would cause an Arc Flash every time it shocked its prey, which produces heat at around 35,000 °F (19,400 °C)."
