Out of Character Information

General Information

  • Name: Clan Vethrisa
  • Classification: Clan
  • Homeworld: Dathomir
  • Affiliation: Independent (traditional Dathomiri clans)
  • Symbol: A broken braid encircling three crescent moons
  • Description: Clan Vethrisa is a secretive Nightsister coven on Dathomir, defined entirely by their devotion to the Prophecy of the Final Weave. Unlike other clans that pursue power through martial dominance or raw magick, the Vethrisa exist to breed, shape, and protect a single destiny: the birth of the Final Weave, a prophesied daughter who will unite the clans and bind the galaxy to her will. Every ritual, every union, every life within the clan is measured against this singular purpose. To outsiders, they are zealots. To themselves, they are keepers of fate.

GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

  • Headquarters: Clan Vethrisa make their home in the Weavewood, a dense and shadowed forest south of Dathomir's jagged ridges. The clan's borders are marked with scarlet-braided bones and ash totems tied to tree trunks, both a warning and an invitation; to step beyond them is to step willingly into the snare of the Weavers. Within these borders, narrow paths twist inward, converging toward the clan's compound.
  • Domain: The compound itself consists of low huts of wood and stone, clustered tightly together and painted with bone symbols and scarlet braids. At the center lies a communal firepit where rituals are performed, its smoke curling constantly into the forest canopy. To the north of the village rises a larger structure, the Hall of Threads, wrapped in cloth and bone charms, faintly pulsing with the Dark Side.
  • Notable Terrain Features:
    • The Ridge of Looms: A line of higher ground overlooking the compound from the south. Steep but accessible, the ridge provides a clear vantage point across the entire settlement, a dangerous truth the clan guards with layers of magick wards.
    • The Totem Ring: A perimeter of braided totems formed from bone, ash, and moonstone, circling the outer domain. They are both territorial markers and magickal snares, warning intruders.
    • The Hall of Threads: The largest structure in the compound, serving as both ritual chamber and seat of the Matron of the Loom. Here, eclipses are read, omens woven, and vessels judged.

SOCIAL INFORMATION

  • Hierarchy:
    • The Matron of the Loom – The clan's supreme leader, keeper of the prophecy.
    • The Circle of Threads – Elders who interpret omens, assign vessels, and oversee the breeding program.
    • Vessels – Women selected by the Circle to carry and produce children as part of the breeding program. Vessels are not seen as individuals but as living conduits, each birth another "thread" in the greater loom. Most vessels will never produce the Final Weave herself, but their children may be groomed as future vessels, continuing the chain across generations.
    • Sisters – Rank-and-file members, skilled in magick and ritual servitude.
    • Knots – Male offspring, immediately culled, enslaved, or discarded.
  • Membership: Clan Vethrisa has always been small, numbering no more than a hundred witches at their height. Their survival was never the priority; prophecy was. Male children were culled or discarded, and only a fraction of daughters were ever raised as vessels or sisters. Every birth was weighed against the loom, every life judged only by its place in the prophecy. By the time of Acier Moonbound, their numbers had dwindled even further. Reduced to fewer than fifty members. Isolated, insular, and fanatically devoted, they survived not through strength of arms but through secrecy and zeal. When Ace finally confronted them, his massacre left the clan all but broken, their legacy scattered to whispers.
  • Climate: Within the clan, life is rigid, ritualistic, and suffocating. Affection is rare, individuality is discouraged, and worth is measured only by one's role in the prophecy. Dissent is punished harshly, usually with exile or death. The climate is one of constant judgment, but also fanatic unity; every sister believes herself part of something greater.
  • Reputation: Among other Dathomiri clans, Vethrisa are seen as obsessive zealots, feared for their divinations and their obsession with the prophecy To outsiders, their name is often confused with myth, whispered as a warning of Nightsisters who "weave your fate into their braid."
  • Curios: Every member wears braid-charms woven of hair, bone, and moonstone, tied to their left wrist or hanging from their belt. Cutting or losing this braid is considered severance from the clan. Elders carry bone-needles, ritual implements used in their ichor weaving spells.
  • Rules:
    • "The thread is all." – Every action must serve the prophecy.
    • Male children are ruin. – They are culled, enslaved, or abandoned.
    • Braids are sacred. – To cut one's braid is to sever oneself from fate.
    • The Matron speaks for the Loom. – Her word is final.
  • Goals:
    • To fulfill the Prophecy of the Final Weave by bringing forth the destined daughter.
    • To unite or subjugate all Nightsister clans under her braid.
    • To extend that braid outward, binding the galaxy itself to her will.

History

Ancient Roots on Peridea:
Clan Vethrisa traces its lineage back beyond Dathomir, claiming origin from the first Nightsisters who followed the Great Mothers across the void from Peridea. According to their lore, the earliest "Weavers" were seers who carried fragments of the Threaded Prophecy. Verses that would later form the basis of the Final Weave.

Fall of Dathomir:
For centuries, the prophecy slumbered, whispered among hidden witches. During the Clone Wars, General Grievous's massacre of the Nightsisters shattered their ranks. Amid the blood and fire, a lone witch survived. Her name was lost, remembered only as the Widow of the Loom. She claimed to have seen a vision in the smoke; the prophecy reborn, demanding that one day a daughter would rise to restore the covens' power. From her came the first sisters of Clan Vethrisa, sworn to dedicate their bloodlines to this singular destiny.

The Breeding Loom:
Over the centuries that followed, Vethrisa perfected their obsession. Bloodline pairings were chosen by omens, unions bound and broken by ritual. Every vessel born of the clan was measured, weighed, and judged against the prophecy. Female-born were tested, male-born were culled or cast out. Failures were common, but each vessel was treated as one more thread in the greater braid, leading one day to the promised daughter.

The Vessel Orryn:
By the late 9th century ABY, Orryn of Clan Vethrisa was named the most promising vessel of her generation. The elders believed the prophecy would be fulfilled through her. Yet fate unraveled when she bore a son - Vayun, later known as Acier Moonbound. Declared a ruin in the weave, Orryn fled with her child, aided by the exiled Jedi Vinorl Kastan.

Aftermath:
Orryn's betrayal marked the clan's deepest wound. Some say the prophecy was broken forever; others insist it was only delayed. In 902 ABY, the clan murdered Orryn to "cut the frayed thread." Her son answered with a massacre that shattered the coven, leaving only a few survivors. Once feared as weavers of destiny, Vethrisa became little more than a dying whisper on Dathomir.
