Checkmate [Lords Edition]

OVERVIEW
Taking place in a huge arena set up gladiator style, any Sith Lord looking to try their hand at a game of brutal strategy is welcome. Each Lord has their own seat from which to look down at the huge, sandy expanse below, dotted by crumbling stone edifices that can be used for cover. Spread across the sands are dozens of poor souls, force-users and non-force-user’s alike, all captured in the name of sport. All manner of weapons caches are spread throughout the sands though most of the prisoners were left with whatever weapons they’d been captured with to add to the fun. The crowd filling the massive stadium seating screams, thirsty for blood.

RULES
1. You may employ both force-users of any level and alignment, and NFU’s of any skill level/equipment level. These people are entirely up to you to create, leading to endless possibilities and ways to fight.
2. Please be realistic in how many people you can control at once/how easy it is to take over more. As long as you are controlling at least one pawn, you are in the game. Deaths will NOT count against you unless it’s your last Pawn – I want to see some epic ends.
3. If all your pawns are killed, you have one ‘respawn’ at your original starting location to try again. You must start with taking over a completely new person and getting back on the field.
4. FU’s can use any and all abilities realistic to their rank once controlled, but keep it to their alignment. (i.e. Jedi shouldn’t be using Force Rage or Deadly Sight, etc.)
5. Any and all weapons and tech are allowed. Random melee weapons found in the environment are also encouraged.
6. You may jump between pawns if controlling one at a time, but do not do so to powergame/avoid a death. For example, if you’re controlling a street urchin and someone else controlling a bounty hunter takes a blaster shot at you, don’t suddenly jump to a Sith that just happened to be standing there and block the shot with a lightsaber.
7. You have 72 hours to reply once engaged. Going over the time frame does not disqualify you, but does count against you.
8. This will go on for two weeks (ending April 26th at 7pm EST). The winner will either be the last left standing, or in the event of multiple OR none left standing, the one deemed most creative, deadliest, and most realistic/fair.

I expect situations not governed by these rules to come up as this is a lesson all about creativity. Please direct questions to the OOC thread located in the One Sith General Discussion forum. If you want to join but haven't signed up yet, you have until the 14th. For the most part it’s a free-for-all brawl over part of the city – just be realistic and fair to your fellow player, and most of all HAVE FUN!

One of the attendants was one Darth Carach, Voice of the Dark Lord and former teacher of the Matsu Xiangu- yes, that one Xiangu that was currently hosting this tournament for their specific and honorable pleasure.

The idea was fascinating, he wondered why he hadn’t ever come up with it, and the execution flawless. It almost made him smile, almost. Not that it would have done a lot for the outer-air projected, the mask prohibited such fancies to do anything really. That was the hurt of being who he was, his identity was the one thing that the Sith liked to keep close. It was all a matter of being reasonable about consequences and such.

One did not become the Butcher of Ahto City without getting a bounty for it by being lax in ones private affairs, no? At any rate, this wasn’t about that, this… was about considering what one could do with a subtle usage of power.

Some would have tried to mass-control twenty drones and go crazy with them.

But Carach… he liked to make things interesting, for him mostly, and so the Sith Lord closed his eyes and focused. Swirls of power flew from out of him and circled the arena, one time, two times, three times, four and five, until finally at the sixth time he had found just what he had been looking for.

Tendrils of influence struck out and assumed direct control.

Dick Jimsson Rickard shuddered, but then the thief opened his eyes and amber stared out of the windows. He coughed softly, dust escaping his lips and finally… Dick disappeared out of sight.

Things would get interesting.

Crowds weren’t an issue for Matsu. As a woman that had chosen to live her life in the heart of the Galaxy she was used to a swarm of humans and aliens alike, surrounded at every turn. It was no secret she didn’t really like talking and didn’t go out of her way to seek out social situations, but there was something invigorating about being around so many people at once.

The gathering of thousands was already hungry for carnage before the competitors were announced, but as their names were called one by one the roar of their excitement almost swallowed all other sound. Betting had been taking place all day, money lost to go directly to the One Sith for future advancement of their cause with substantial payouts for the daring. Everyone had their favorites. Matsu stepped from the shadow of the hallway leading towards what could be best called a throne, designed specifically for the event – it soared above the sandy arena below, providing each competitor an unobstructed view of their soon-to-be pawns below, though not so far they’d be deprived the pleasure of the violence wrought. Raising a hand to the crowd in response to the feverish greeting, she swept her eyes over the entirety of the stadium seating. That so many gathered to see lives ended for nothing else than the pleasure of those with more privilege soared right past her conscience – she merely wanted to provide that which they were so eager to see. It would be a glorious occasion for (almost) all involved, including her old Master. Competing against him would be something to savor, a chance to show off all she’d learned from him, and the lengths to which she’d gone for even more knowledge on her own.

Moving forward, she forewent entirely the seat made for her, instead leaning over the railing of her private booth, resting her forearms on the barrier as she observed the field below. A few dozen choices. She had a few strategies in mind, but in a game as stealthy as this one the right one wouldn’t become obvious until her opponents revealed themselves. There was a subtle mindlessness to a controlled individual that was impossible to spot from this distance – it would be sheer destruction at this stage as they tried to find each other’s pawns on the field.

Feeding on the fear and despair of those thrown unceremoniously in to the pit, she encroached on the mind of a small, skinny woman. Armed with a blaster and two knives, Matsu moved her pawn through the crowd, looking for another with a similarly semi-doped gait. Starting small would save her energy, but she needed to gather a few more pawns to shore her bets against inevitable deaths meted out by her opponents.

The Force was a versatile thing, its wielder had many options open to him and the Art of the Mind was no different in this. It was almost impossible to categorize the various applications of manipulating the mind, but if one really tried and applied it directly to this situation?

Then there would be one obvious way to tackle this problem, and one less obvious path.

Total domination. Slipping into the skin of the victim, feel, see, hear and smell exactly what your drone did. A tedious affair and awkward, because you aren't used to the new body and that means that you will be spending crucial amounts of time to learn the movement of the body, instead of sniffing out your opposition.

Dick Jimsson Rickard knew his body though, he knew the taste of blood and the weak, soft spot between the ribs that made such an attractive target for his edged poisoned blade, and it was the easiest thing in the worls to simply guide the thief around the fiels of battle.

Dick need no telling that his life was on the line, Dick need to explanation on how to move his feet in the most efficient manner. What Dick simply needed was the deal dangling in front of his mind eye, what he had needed was invigoration of his limbs and body.

What he had needed... was a goal.

But a goal alone would not help him against the likes of [member="Matsu Xiangu"] this Carach knew for sure, and so he played a little game... to make things more interesting.

A simple tug, a spiked influence shard lashed out and one of the ragged walking corpses started running, moving between the various other drones in the arena.

Living corpses would not pay attention to it, they would not care, but a drone controlled by a player? What if the running woman was someone controlled by the opposition? What if it was about to score a point by killing more of the opposition?

Perhaps one of the players would view this as an opportunity and decide to show their hand or perhaps not.

Who knew these days?
