First off, I want to thank everyone who voted for me. A few people know that I've been struggling with my writing on chaos, since I feel like it's not the best and that sometimes my characters don't make sense, in fact Reina's been one I've been struggling to find a place for but I'm glad to see that people have enjoyed her.
Secondly, I also want to thank the other nominees. They definitely deserved their nominations! The site wouldn't be the place it was without every other writer here.
Question:
Assume money is no obstacle, where in the Galaxy would you want to live? (And why is it not the Core?)
This is a hard question to answer for Reina, because she struggles to see any place as a home. Whilst she spent a fair bit of time on Coruscant studying as a Jedi, there is absolutely no way she'd ever want to live in the Core. Mintooine is her birthplanet, but she's never actually been there before so there's no reason she'd want to live there. If anything, it'd be an aquatic planet and since money is no obstacle, she'd probably have some kind of palace boat, be it on someway like Mon Cala, Kamino, or Manaan. I'd lean towards Manaan the most.
Question:
Describe your character's ideal mundane day and why is it that?
What is a mundane day for Reina? Hm...She's starting to take a step back from her bounty hunting and mercenary jobs, with her spending more time with the Mandalorians whilst also learning more about the Dark Side from
Darth Carnifex
. But if we go with Reina's ideal mundane day, it would probably just be her waking up, going out in the morning for some fishing, coming back to cook her catch for breakfast for herself (And Quinn, since for an ideal mundane day, Quinn would be there as well), doing some form of physical training, be it going for a hike, a swim or some form of physical sparring. Go out for some more fishing, this time by hand as opposed to rod, come back to cook again, try to read a book or two before getting frustrated and giving up before deciding to watch the holovid instead, maybe deciding to watch it with Quinn or just watching it by herself, and then settle down for the night.
Question:
What is the happiest moment for Reina in chaos without mentioning
Quinn Varanin?
Now this is a difficult question. For those who know Reina, she has little self-worth in herself, and that's because she's been given plenty of reasons in her eyes, not to value herself. She lost her birth family when she was just a wee babe and got lost out at sea, and then raised by a fishing/pirate crew that also "gave up" on her, in her eyes and set her off alone into the Galaxy. Then there was the Jedi, where she felt some form of happiness, but always felt out of place because of how much she enjoyed to fight, only to end feeling like the Jedi "gave up" on her as well. And since I can't mention Quinn for Reina's happiest moment...It'd probably be the moment that her birth sister actually found her. Even if she still doesn't keep much touch with her birth family out of fear of making them a target, she genuinely enjoyed the moments she spent with her sister, even when she had a surprise housewarming party thrown for herself on Corellia!
Question:
What is something your character wants—but would never admit out loud?
Simply said? She wants to be a Princess. Or royalty in some form. It's somewhat connected to something she will admit to, about how she wants to be valued, but she also wants to be loved and respected. She wants to be pampered in some way, but at the same time she doesn't feel as if she deserves it. To Reina, she is no-one of note. No-one needs to pamper her, or even look in her direction. All she's here to do is fight and get hurt. And whilst she is partly being able to live out her dream of being a Knight, she also desperately wants to be able to live as a Princess for a short while.
Question : If you were a starship, which model would you be and why?
Is this a bad time to say starships are my least favourite part of any Sci-Fi universe? I can give a sort of description of what I'd think she'd be like, but I can't think of a specific model. I think Reina's the kind of starship that isn't much to look at. Maybe you'd get it second-hand, or from a salvager, with it being a bit broken, run down and difficult to work with. But if you're willing to work on it, fix what you can, where you can, I could see the ship being a dependable and perhaps scrappy little thing. It might not be the fastest, or the strongest, but it would get you to where you needed to go if it was the last thing it did.
Question for the nominee:
What does he believe he is becoming…and is that something he chose, or something that was forced on him?
So I know the question was intended for Varin, but I'll answer as Reina. And it's once again hard for Reina. She's viewed herself as a monster for the longest time. Both because of her more violent nature, and the fact that she was artificially turned into a Sithspawn, and whilst there is nothing inherently "dark" about the kind she became, she still struggles with it. That was definitely something forced on her, but something she is trying to choose to be is someone strong. She wanted to be a protector of the innocent, but as she's descending further into the rabbit hole that is the Dark Side, that desire and choice has slowly been twisted. Whilst she won't willing hurt the innocent, she can't bring herself to always protect them now. She will protect those dear to her, tooth and nail, but when it comes to people she doesn't know? She will give them the tools to protect themselves, but she won't do it herself.
Question: how do you come up with your characters names? Think ‘em up? Name generator? Little column A, little column B?
Honestly? Little column A, and column B. Reina was mostly a name generator, so imagine my amusement when I found out Reina actually means Queen. But when it came to Reina's "real name" with what she was born as, I went for a little google research with. I wanted something somewhat similar but not exactly the same, which lead me to Raini Pekerish. I don't remember where I got Pekerish from, but Raini was something that sounded aquatic enough to me.
Question:
How far is Varin willing to go? And will the conflict with what lurks inside him ever come to a head?
Once again, a question for Varin but I'll answer it as Reina. Reina isn't entirely sure how far she is willing to go. It depends on what the situation is. She still has morals, that she's trying to stick to. Those morals are part of why even though she's being trained by Carnifex, she doesn't think she'll ever make for a good Sith. She holds too much empathy for others now. If anything however, she does feel like what lurks within her will come to a head soon, when she might eventually have to make a choice. Between her birth family, between her new "family" amongst the Mandalorians now that she has been adopted into
Mia Monroe
's clan, between Carnifex who whilst she is deathly afraid of him, he is helping her to gain the confidence she so desperately needs, and between Quinn, someone that Reina adores with all of her heart and perhaps is the only person Reina is willing to discard all of her morals for.
Question for the winner: If your character could go back in time to change the outcome of a certain event - what would it be, and why?
When I first saw this question, my instant answer would have been to change her getting lost at sea, so that she could feel what it was like to be raised by a real family. But the more I thought of it, the more I realised that would completely change Reina's trajectory in life. Whilst she does regret and resent many things she's went through in life, it has lead her to where she is now. And whilst she might not be in the perfect place in life, she is happy. She is who she is because of what she has went through, and to change any of that means the people she knows and cares for now might never know her. So it might come as a cheap answer, but I don't think Reina would change anything, yet.
