Lifftenant Cerys wearing her Sentinel-pattern helmet

Cerys Aynia gan Ymlerith Ithlinne born "Cerys Aynia Liath Bryn" is a Gwerin Doeth pathfinder, pilot and special operations command combat search and rescue operator who frequently lives beyond the borders of her people's homeworld in the employment of foreign companies or foreign governments working as a skilled and talented commercial pilot or even offering her services as a military advisor to help train foreign military or paramilitary personnel in combat search and rescue skills or aviation. Cerys was born into an unremarkable middle-class family, both of her parents were executive-level professional public servants and made a very decent living between them providing a comfortable life for their two children. Managing to support both Cerys and Caranthir in their attendance to prestigious selective private schools with many of their peers hailing from the commercial, political and military elite. With two years between them Cerys and Caranthir were rather close as siblings growing up and the two shared many interests in common as their development ran concurrently, the only real tension between them arose with the onset of adolescence and the subsequent physiological changes that occur over this time.

While young around the age of ten Cerys began receiving Gene Therapy for an extraordinarily rare genetic affliction called "Epidermolysis Bullosa" which caused the adolescent's skin to painfully blister from the most superficial injuries. This caused her intense psychological distress and with it threatening to cut her life expectancy down from several thousand years to three dozen at best she received life-saving gene therapy through the efficient but strained public healthcare system. Caranthir was particularly supportive and distressed for his older sister's obvious immense suffering disturbed the boy and he would often insist on staying by his sister's side when she was bed-ridden, he would read his devout sister stories from the word of the Covenant. Moving through adolescence and into young adulthood Cerys attended the University of Dinas Wen studying an undergraduate course in Ancient history and applied physics which she succeeded at with no small amount of difficulty as the young woman was rightfully considered plain of intellect but what she lacked in raw intellectual aptitude she compensated for with diligence and determination. While at university Cerys was enrolled into the Pathfinder course due to her force sensitivity and was trained to control her inherent abilities and harness them for practical utility, her new status as a Pathfinder despite her family having no history of force sensitivity catapulted Cerys into the aristocracy if only in prestige by virtue of this trait rather than wealth and her changed name reflected this legally becoming "Cerys Aynia Ymlerith Ithlinne" at the age of 21.

Now that her little brother was becoming a man himself Cerys began playing the attentive and protective big sister even though she did not consciously desire to do so her role as a senior sibling become more active rather than the benevolent loving indifference it had been historically. She would carefully observe any woman with whom Caranthir showed interest enough to bring to their family home and more often than not would loudly and poignantly strip apart the woman's motivations and thoughts once she'd departed and got a moment to talk some since into her oft starry-eyed junior brother. Caranthir didn't appreciate his sisters' intrusions into his social and love life at all misunderstanding Cerys' fraternal and even paternal behavior for a malevolent desire to manipulate his relationships into something she thought was appropriate, and that was true although it ignores that Cerys truly believed she held Caranthir's best interests at heart when considering what was appropriate or inappropriate. Caranthir would not have to withstand his sister's intrusions much longer through with her university graduation swiftly approaching Cerys was desperate to find a career in an employment market where youth unemployment is particularly bleak. Seeking guidance she confided her concerns revolving around unemployment and being outside of training with her wise and calculating Father who suggested that Cerys join the military as her Pathfinder accreditation as obtained from the University meant she could only be eligible to enter as a commissioned officer.

Weighing this heavily against a desire to possibly join the Covenant Guard the security forces loyal to the Covenant and Hierarch, Cerys eventually resolved that the most sound decision would be to join the military as they offered a significantly better salary in virtually all of their commissioned officer careers. What Cerys found an exciting idea was the possibility of being able to peer beyond the veil borders of the Ellylon Republic and take a glimpse into the galaxy with an eye towards the significant species she had learnt of in the course of her studies of history while attending university. Ithlinne wasn't enthusiastic about Cerys' ambitions to join the Military but understood her practical reasoning and sympathized with it. Cerys' academic achievements combined with her Pathfinder accreditation gave the young woman extra points on her aptitude testing which was highly fortunate for her as the test results alone were mediocre driven by a paralyzing anxiety she experienced during testing. Several career opportunities across the different branches were available to Cerys and she was ultimately intrigued by the idea of piloting a small craft in the vast foreign expanse of space and decided to apply for the fixed-wing starfighter pilot career paths with both the Air Force and Navy.

Cerys opted to pursue an officer board with the Air Force as ultimately her pride got the better of her and decided that the Air Force and its' pilot program overall was more prestigious than the Navy, although admittedly not by much. That was just what she told some others who pried into why she'd chosen the Air Force rather than the Navy with the truth being far simpler, Cerys simply did not aspire to upwards promotion to eventually become a warship commander, she wanted to fly starfighters and wanted to do so for several years. Atleast that's what she thought when the letter arrived authorising her to enroll in the Air Force's commissioned officer academy. Ymlerith wore his pride in quiet countenance while Ithlinne congratulated Cerys openly with cautious optimism, though she didn't doubt her daughter's sincerity or determination Ithlinne did not believe Cerys was military material and thought perhaps she might settle into a teaching position with time, she'd wait forever because that day would never come.

Caranthir was deeply upset for his sister to be going away and their farewell was markedly longer than others on the day Cerys was set to travel from their home on Dinas Wen's northern fringes to Dinas Galon, a large city and home to the air force's officer training academy. Cerys would have to endure its' eighteen months before being released to the following flying school, the course was difficult far more difficult than anything Cerys had done in her life upto that point. Her instructors were career non-commissioned officers men and women with hundreds of years of experience individually and thousands of years between them hard, cold, calculating but fair professional soldiers who would see the future of the Air Force be one that attracted pride to the branch. Dinas Galon was a cold city even for Ellylon standards forcing Cerys and the other officer cadets to weather the freezing cold when performing their field exercises and practical assessments, even as it was extremely difficult Cerys found little bits of solace while attending the air force officer training academy.

While training Cerys demonstrated a high level of independent thinking, tactical planning and problem-solving skills absolutely essentials tools for a junior commissioned officer. Unfortunately she was flagged during her training as being unsuitable for general-level officer ranks as even though Cerys was diligent she was deemed to be intellectually dull. Thus she couldn't be trusted with strategic level resources and decisions. Not that it would ever matter to the young Officer Cadet for all she desired was to fly among the stars with no ambition for those lofty titles of "General" or any interest in moving units along a holographic map with no weight, it was too disconnected in her mind. Cerys befriended one of her classmates who was also enrolled into the tri-service flight school, a woman named "Amser Enys Manach" Amser was a staggeringly talented and intelligence student and Cerys had long believed Amser would be named their course's "Student of Merit" for her continued high performance on all assessment tasks. The two young women complimented each other where Amser was lazy Cerys was diligent, where Amser was brilliant Cerys was dull and conventional, Cerys kept Amser working hard and Amser explained complex strategies and tactics to Cerys often poking fun at the woman that she could understand and work with applied physiques but not strategic-level unit management and movement effectively.

Managing to barely complete the junior commissioned officer course with the help of Amser she and Cerys marched out of the academy together with the former predictably being awarded the student of merit as Cerys and several others had long anticipated. After the newly commissioned officers were dismissed from the parade they were permitted to see their families under the slow falling snow, Ymlerith rushed to proudly embrace his daughter and crashed so vigorously into the girl she was swept clear of the smooth asphalt parade ground. Ithlinne wasn't far behind with Caranthir following leisurely behind her though with a wolfish grin plastered across his pale face, Cerys after months of having little to no physical contact with her family was overjoyed and shed tears as too did her Father in an uncharacteristic display of outward emotion. Amser was introduced by Cerys to her family and readily got along with all of them. Caranthir who had long seperated from his previous girlfriend after begrudgingly heeding Cerys' predictions about the woman had his attention quickly stolen from Cerys to Amser immediately finding her attraction. Caranthir didn't say anything about her beauty at the time deeming it to be inappropriate, although to Amser and Cerys his attraction was obvious with his lingering gazes always desperate to catch a glimpse of the woman.

Cerys and Amser went to the tri-service flight school together and it was at this point that the two women came into contact with Officers from the other military branches particularly the Navy. Cerys readily queried the Navy pilots about their career progression and her suspicions were confirmed that most Navy Officers who start out as Pilots eventually progress and are steadily given responsibility and command over larger assets. It helped the young woman justify her decision to join the Air Force as it might keep her flying for longer while moving up through the chain of command, and unfortunately for Cerys as a commissioned officer moving up through the ranks of a junior officer were largely a matter of time rather than competency. The flight school saw the assessment fortunes of Cerys and Amser invert with Cerys' education in applied physics giving her an edge in flying education and skills understanding and grasping the concepts rather quickly and demonstrating superior flying aptitude which was attributed by many peers to her status as a Pathfinder. Cerys once again applied her diligence to the course particularly to the Navigation portion which was difficult as the students were expected to plot new courses using paper maps as opposed to their avionics suite which they presumed in the exercises to be offline due unpredictable circumstances proved to be a significant challenge to all.

Proving herself adaptable to the confined cockpit of fighter craft Cerys successfully earned accreditation for flying fighter-sized craft although it did not come with ease. Amser more naturally gifted also managed to successfully earn the accreditation although with less preparation for their exams. Cerys and Amser passed all of their exams albeit with difficulty in some cases for the former, when asked to select preferences for their operational units towards the end of their flight training both of the friends decided to nominate the same fighter squadron based out of their shared home city of Dinas Wen the 19th Fighter Squadron or "Guardian Squadron" as they were casually known. Fortune favored the pair again and both were successfully allotted to the Squadron as its' newest members, finding their unit to be one characterized by discipline and rigorous drills. Cerys found her passion in flying as she loved what it represented the freedom to chose wherever you wanted to be in the blink of an eye, truthfully it wasn't too different from using her Pathfinder abilities teleporting across space, that must have been why it felt so satisfying and natural for the Pathfinder atleast that's what Cerys came to assume and accept as for her consummate attraction to the idea of being up in the skies.

As friends Amser and Cerys developed a friendly rivalry in the air with the two constantly performing unnecessary and unauthorized aerial acrobatics on navigation exercises in an attempt to constantly out-do one another. Amser was the better of the two pilots in sheer raw talent but Cerys' ally was the Ether and it was a potent ally indeed which narrowed the gap between Amser's natural talent and Cerys' studied skill along with ether sensitivity. Even though Cerys enjoyed the patrols through the spacelines around Tir na Ellylon's exterior ensuring their country's isolation and security was protected a part of Cerys looked to the stars and desired to seek out mystery and the foreign which set her apart from many other Gwerin Doeth, Amser included who were rather Xenophobic, distrustful and suspicious of the foreign. On her 22nd Birthday Cerys secured leave over the weekend and returned to her family home on Dinas Wen's snowy exterior, among the guests was Amser, Gwyn, Auberon and Caomhan all close friends from the Guardian squadron. Caranthir decided to brave his own inner anxieties and ask Cerys about Amser, the former spoke honestly about her admiration of the latter but with a smirk on her face also told Caranthir she was "Without suitor, lover or husband." Tacitly giving her approval of his attraction to Amser.

After six years of flying and Amser narrowly surviving an atmospheric ejection from her aircraft Cerys decided to join the unit responsible for rescuing her best friend out of admiration for their professionalism and efficacy despite Gywn, Auberon and Caomhan's objections. The unit in question was the 332nd Combat Rescue Group a unit belonging to the Air Force's elite special operations command their primary responsibility was rescuing and providing medical treatment to isolated Republic soldiers such as downed pilots, vehicle crews, prisoners of war and office of naval intelligence personnel in any humanitarian or combat environment. Cerys' unit were disappointed to see her go but knew that her passion and compassion attracted her to such a noble calling, Cerys intense physical training as an aviator would serve her well for the selection process but it was a shocking experience for the still young woman who had done combat exercises and weapons training before but nothing near close to such high intensity. Though she remembers selection fondly the experience was perdition incarnate with the instructors icy and harsh in the administration of tests and training. About 15% of the selection course's aspirants were air force women by the end of its' completion Cerys would stand among the 3% of successful women, a success she attributed to her faith and trust in the force.

The training school itself lasted for a grueling two further years with an extremely high attrition rate around 80% of all those who passed through selection, Cerys witnessed people she had befriended suffer horrific physical injuries and even one fatality as the school demanded that all fire exercises be live-fire with fully powered particle accelerator weapons. What challenged Cerys and many other participants in the course the most was their combat diving module where the trainees were expected to complete the exercises in arctic water. Though given appropriate equipment for the chilling the bite was ever distracting and more than one trainee Cerys included required immediate recovery following the exercises completion, her instructors watched as they demonstrated their advanced para-medicine skills and kept their debilitated alive. In a comical display of misfortune three days after successfully completing the course's last module Cerys fractured her right tibia on a fast-rope exercise from an air assault aircraft. Cerys recovered quickly thanks to prompt chemical treatment and marched out proudly with her course, to say her parents were pleasantly surprised would be an understatement and Caranthir now a physician was shocked at the stories of what his sister had to endure.

Cerys was a qualified combat rescueman with the Air Force's special operations command for several years and was made a troop commander of a combat team, though she did miss flying deeply her responsibilities kept her grounded and focused on their training exercises. With the Ellylon Republic's policy of isolation coming to an end her old wanderlust exploded once more and when the Air Force announced a join venture with the Department of Foreign affairs to send inactive ready reserve officers to serve as guest pilot instructors and consultants with the public service of selected foreign governments Cerys immediately leapt at the opportunity. Cerys in order to fulfill the requirements for the program did not extend her active-duty contact and thus entered the inactive ready reserve and then applied to join the pilot outreach program her application was successful and preparations were made for Cerys to journey into the Galaxy's core.

    Character Strengths:
    • Combat Rescue Operator: Trained as a member of the Air Force's prestigious and disciplined special operations command Cerys received two years of formal training in a variety of activities enabling her to proficiently perform unconventional warfare tasks and provided qualifications in advanced pre-hospital medical skills equivalent to the highest qualification of para-medicine including advanced life support. Cerys is an exceptionally skilled and dangerous combatant whose capability and effectiveness should not be underestimated.
    • Gwerin Doeth: Born and evolved for heightened gravity Cerys' bones, muscles and other soft connective tissues are extraordinarily resilient and tough with an advanced nervous system with delineated thickened electrical myelin sheaths allowing for dramatically reduced reaction times. There are several redundant vital organs which allow the giant to exert and recover efficiently and confer a resistance to disease, poison, viruses and bacteria. The central incisors of her upper jaw are decidedly predatory with their long and sharpened appearance and a key distinction of her racial identity.
    • Neural Psychism: Born with the innate ability to communicate with and/or manipulate the Ether or "Force" Cerys was trained as a young adult in the racial tradition of a "Pathfinder" and most notably becoming capable of opening fold tears and teleporting herself, objects or other individuals to different locations. Cerys is acutely sensitive to the roiling tides of the Ether and can perceive events prior to their occurrence receiving visions or overwhelming premonitions, additionally she feels an icy chill fall over herself when in the presence of a dark soul and experiences such icy cold chills in response to wicked, cruel or malicious acts she herself commits.
    • Skilled Pilot: Cerys is a skilled pilot combining a mixture of personal qualities such as dilligence and discipline to carefully study aerial combat techniques, tactics and manouveres to overcome the given situation with firm confidence. Cerys' performance is amplified by her race's inherent traits and her sensitivity to the force which make her quite a formidable and dangerous aerial opponent to confront for any enemy. If it flies Cerys can operate it after learning its' avionics suite and control layout.
    Character Weaknesses:
    • Caloric Intake: Size and strong physique doesn't come without material cost and this material cost for most Gwerin Doeth, Cerys included is the necessity to come significantly more calories in food than most Humans or Near-Humans would need in order to grow or sustain a body fat percentage. Generally speaking Cerys needs to consume the equivelent of around 2,500 calories per day in order to maintain her weight. This can mean she is more prone to the negative effects of food scarcity.
    • Force Presence: As quite a significantly sensitive person to the Ether or "Force" as it is known within this galaxy, Cerys' presence can be sensed and discerned through the living force quite distinctly like a hot burning candle when against a drab background of those who are not force sensitive. This can be a tactical disadvantage especially in aerial combat where enemies might put more pressure on Cerys selectively targeting her for the perceived threat level. It can also make her presence if not her precise location difficult to conceal while camouflaged or otherwise hidden.
    • Low Gravity: Evolved and grown in a gravity of 1.4 standard Gs Cerys should experience negative physiological effects should she reside for an extended period of time in an environment or gravitational field significantly lower than this value. Some of these negative effects can include tissue degeneration resulting in her bones and muscles becoming less dense and thus less stable and sturdy.
    • Sensory acuity: With an advanced nervous system Cerys experiences the world at a greater fidelity than what is possible for most humanoids giving her higher perception at the cost that the sharp resolution could be used as a weapon against the woman. Cerys loathes excessively loud noises and could be incapacitated into a pathetic debilitated screaming victim at a sufficiently high decibel level, for this reason she hates sonic weaponry. Another example of her heightened sensory perceptions is bright flashing lights tend to induce a sense of vertigo and nausea into the woman which can be quite severe.
    • Swimming: With highly dense bones, muscles and other connective tissues Cerys like most members of her species struggles to maintain buoyancy when submerged in a liquid with a density akin to water. As such Cerys generally speaking cannot swim for extended periods of time without access to specialist equipment to maintain positive or neutral bouyancy.
    • Volume Requirements: Cerys is a member of the Gwerin Doeth species as such she possesses quite a large stature and can become quite cramped in vehicles designed for use by Humans or Near-Humans. Additionally, it makes it difficult or impossible to move through confined spaces designed for those such species to move through depending on the dimensions.

Lifftenant Cerys 332nd Combat Rescue Group
Cerys is characterized by her discipline, dutifulness, honesty and compassion. Equipped with a rather black and white moral compass her personal motto is “Join with anybody to do right and with nobody to do wrong.” Unlike many Gwerin Doeth who are often Xenophobic isolationists, Cerys is curious and willing to cautiously explore the unknown. Though Cerys possesses some of the pride and parochial snobbery typical of her race’s societies she genuinely believes for the most part that people should be judged on their own merits rather than being given their country or race’s stereotype and admired or loathed unfairly because of it with Cerys believing righteousness and wickedness isn’t exclusive to one group of people or another. Cerys is forgiving and gentle at heart despite having significant amounts of military training and education she hasn’t let those experiences drive away or suppress her friendly social tendencies and inclinations, at times to the consternation of her comrades and superiors. Not perfect by any means, Cerys’ desire to trust people in believe in their inherent goodness means she can be perceived to be rather naïve at times when given room to express her views that individuals aren’t born wicked and evil, that redemption is possible.

It would be fair to say that Cerys is something of a University snob she adores painting in her spare time to create art rather than mindlessly consuming media believing that life’s great gift is the ability to create and toil. A music lover, Cerys enjoys playing the Cello, Fiddle and Harp and is rather skilled at it she enjoys deep thoughtful melancholic tunes. A woman of deep faith and dogmatic conviction, Cerys believes that it is the Gwerin Doeth’s gods’ mandated duty to safeguard all life within the universe in a benevolent warm embrace and that the gods continue to watch silently and judge all from the Ether. War while the business of a warrior is one that Cerys has no relish to participate in and believes that wars ought to be fought as they must, because it is necessity when one is confronted with an evil abhorrent ideology or monstrous unreasoning beast which knows no other than violence. Cerys is weary of politicians and the politics which create them, she has little interest in manipulating others and for the most part is generally honest and hospitable. Cerys will only deceive or manipulate someone only when she is given reason to believe the individual would deceive or manipulate her in turn.

Alcohol isn’t exactly a vice for Cerys but she does enjoy infrequently partaking in flavoured liqueurs and wine especially among good company she never drinks to intoxication preferring to have good control over her motor functions, disliking the loss of control and memory associated with heavy intoxication. One of Cerys’ many pastimes is cooking and she takes a distinct pleasure in preparing food for herself and other people her favourite dishes are pastas a part of her vanity no doubt is deriving enjoyment and happiness from praise that is heaped upon her in the form of compliments especially that aimed towards her cooking.
