OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: Create a "combat knife" which in truth would be considered a short-sword by most Humans because of its' size used by the Gwerin Doeth of an ancient design specific to their race and culture.

STRENGTHS
  • Double-sided: Owing to the skill and long-lives of its' designers the blue-wave blade is a double-sided combat knife which allows for a broader range of cutting techniques and swings to be adopted and practiced giving a significant advantage to one-sided blades.
  • Mono-molecular edge: Blue-wave design combat knifes possess a mono-molecular composite nanolaminated crystal edge making is excessively sharp, extremely tough and resistant to wear with extended use. The Blue-Wave blade is capable of cutting through a variety of metals, plastoids and polymers with sufficient brute force on application, making it a useful tool for an individual in a remote wilderness area for example it can be used to cut through hardwood with ease.
  • Plasma-resistant: The Blue-wave design is constructed primarily from Composite nanolaminted crystal making it extremely resistant to thermal energy and possesses a high melting point, though it cannot withstand sustained contact with lightsabers it can withstand sustained contact with electro-plasma type weapons, making it possible for the wielder to effectively engage a target armed with a electro-plasma or related weapon.
WEAKNESSES
  • Lightsaber: Unfortunately the Blue Wave Combat Knife is not designed or intended to be used as a melee weapon capable of being used within a lightsaber duel. The blade is constructed from a tough material with a high melting point though it still isn't sufficient to prevent melting or boiling on contact with the kyber-focused plasma blade of a lightsaber.
  • Limited reach: As a sword the Blue-Wave design is intended to be used as a self-defence weapon or a tool despite its' length it is not an ideal weapon as it lacks sufficient reach to engage an opponent without placing its' wielder within striking distance. This can be extremely dangeous in melee combat especially if the wielder's opponent is attacking with a weapon significant longer than the blue wave blade such as a polearm and doubly so if said weapon is an electro-plasma type armament.
DESCRIPTION
The Blue Wave Combat Knife is an ancient Gwerin Doeth design that dates back to the species' Imperial Age when their Pathfinders were helping to lead inter and extragalactic raids in search of resources. The Blue Wave Combat Knife was and is a staple of the Gwerin Doeth warrior or soldiers' equipment and is widely found in the civilian world for ornamental, decorative or practical applications. The ancient blades were typically constructed from Titanium or Tungsten Carbide and were known to produce a wicked edge that allowed a Gwerin Doeth warrior to dismember a Human's arm at the shoulder with a single forceful swing of its' beveled blade. Ancient Gwerin Doeth warriors gave these weapons a number of derogatory names which are occasionally still used today such as "Primate Killer" which refers to their early extragalactic conflicts with the Zhell on what is now Coruscant.

With the advent of modern materials science and forging technology the current used Blue-Wave Combat Knife is constructed of composite nanolaminated crystal with a double beveled fuller for weight reduction without sacrificing blade strength and integrity. Additionally, Gwerin Doeth factories and craftsmen produce the modern blades with a mono-molecular composite nanolaminated crystal edge this results in a weapon that can reliably and efficiently cut and stab its' way through armor ranging from Aluminium, Plastoid all the way to Durasteel and Duraplast. Granted with the tougher materials it can take a not insignificant amount of force to push through the material thus in a way its' armor-piercing effectiveness is heavily reliant on the user's physical strength. High dexterity is rewarded though too as the blade is double-sided allowing for a broader variety of cutting and slicing motions that might not otherwise be possible making an agile wielder with this weapon highly dangerous.

The blade is well balanced and can be thrown with practice. Its' hilt is quite long and this is due to its' principle users usually being well over two meters tall and the long grip compensates for what is typically a larger hand compared to Humans. As such, most Humans find the blade awkward with its' grip too long to comfortably wield with one-hand if their hands are particularly small but finding that a two-handed grip is not ideal. While most Gwerin Doeth should be able to comfortable hold the grip in one-hand.
