CAYMAN CITY

Cayman%20City_zps1y7gy3sd.png

Cayman City is the political and social capital of Ceraluen. Everything in the city is of a grander scale. The buildings are taller, the architecture smooth and unison, the products are better, the streets are cleaner, the scenes are grander, and the technology is at its peak. There are parks and nature reserves, amphitheaters, stadiums, even cruises that can take you into the sea or the sky. Many of its structures were built based on similar functional architecture as those of meant to accommodate thousands of bureaucrats and merchants from across all of the galaxy. Despite being a very large city and the capital, there is actually a very low crime rate. This has much in part to do with a well-manned and proactive police force equipped with state-of-the-art gear. Cayman City also houses the royal palace, the seat of the Crown.

AQUUS

Aquus_zpsx6ht5yya.png

Source

Aquus is an island city taking residence in a fair-sized archipelago, with skyscrapers lining the mountain islands and larger homes accommodating the wealthy citizens. A popular vacation spot, people from all over the galaxy come to bask in the sunlight and enjoy the cool breeze from Aquus' calm waters. The city as it stands now is a rebuild, reconstructed form the devastation of the system's First Maelstrom. The Commonwealth of Ceraluen has crafted a contingency plan as well as put precautionary measures in place to protect it's citizens and visitors alike.

ARCADIA

Arcadia is a bustling city that rivals Cayman City in terms of population. Known as 'The City that Glows', Arcadia is known for it's night life and economic importance. Violet Spectrum is the city's state-sponsored casino, which brings in approximately 20% of the system's income. Despite it's crime rate being significantly higher than that of Cayman City, it's no deterrent for those who come seeking a good time. The streets are littered with vendors and markets, taverns and roadside eateries, nightclubs and theatres.

PORT LUCIA

Port%20Lucia_zpscubvgum7.png

Port Lucia is the industrial center of Ceraluen. Packed with spaceports, power plants, and other industrial and business markets, hundreds of ships enter and exit Port Lucia daily. The port is also home to several refineries which produce Durasteel to be exported offworld straight from the docks. Neighbors with Fort Armour, security on site is always high and on alert. This allows for fast and efficient trade and transportation as well as a safer environment.

FORT ARMOUR

Fort Armour is Ceraluen's military post, housing most of the planet's military assets and resources. Most importantly, the base houses Ceraluen's primary operations of it's planetary defense system and secondary control of asteroid belt control. The base is largely self-sufficient, serving as a last resort location to hole up in in the event of emergencies. Having the base as a last resort was widely criticized, as it was argued that because it was a military post, in the event of an invasion, it would likely be the first to be attacked rather than the last. Regardless, the base is used to sponsor cooperative military efforts with other governments and has proven to be an asset in foreign relations both militarily and politically.

CERALUEN COMMS STATION
CSS_zpsm7dcjfmw.png
Source: Wallpaperia

The Ceraluen Comms Station, also known as the CCS is the system's central communications hub which relays all incoming and outgoing transmissions with the rest of the galaxy. Though unarmed, the station is well-guarded. The Commonwealth believes that it would remain functional even after siege, as it's proprietary technology is the only means of offworld communication. It also houses primary control for the asteroid gateway.
Culture: A largely peaceful people, Ceraluens are known for their hospitality and kindness - but also their tenacity in proactive defense. Cayman City boasts a police force that rivals that of Coruscant and serves as the front line of defense in the event of offworld planetary assault. Two years of military service is mandatory upon coming of age and is not restricted by race or gender. Typically, Ceraluens are accomodating and tolerant of offworlders. However, they take great offense to when it's suggested their way of life be changed.
Technology: Highly advanced
History: Discovered in 256 ABY, Ceraluen was originally inhospitable for human life. It was used as a stop for smugglers on the Parlemian Trade Route for hundreds of years before terraforming began by the Vilas Terraforming Corporation (which has since closed) and eventual colonization began. Historians believe that Ceraluen's late discovery had to do with the transitory mists, which hid any indication a system or otherwise was present. Largely unaffected by the Gulag Plague, any remnants of the virus were wiped out in the terraforming process. After breaking ground and testing for precious materials, a clear liquid protruded from the cracks - water. Water began filling craters and after several years, a shallow sea soon enveloped approximately 10% of the system. Realizing the small water supply wouldn't sustain a growing population, Arbyr Vilas, the CEO of Vilas Terraforming, began importing water from the nearby system of Azure. Several years later, the sea soon enveloped 50% of the system. Vegetation began to grow which began a water cycle. Having studied botany at the University of Coruscant, Arbyr Vilas recognized this early on and imported several types of flora so that more water might be produced. Despite the lack of animal life on land or in the sea, Ceraluen's ecosystem seemed to have been thriving thus far.

Construction began of the system's first city, Cayman, which would go on to become the system's capital. During construction of the city, Arbyr had formally established the Commonwealth of Ceraluen, styling himself Lord Protector, the regent of the system. His business executives and partners would go on to serve as prominent government officials, with outside investors buying places within the government and claiming undeveloped land for their eventual use. Given his own vast personal wealth combined with that of his company and investors, bolstered with the resources that would eventually be exported for profit, capital was of no issue for developing the planet. There is one thing people sought more than money, and that was power. With Ceraluen, power could be bought in the literal sense. Recognizing a feudal system working best for this, it was implemented, with the Lord Regent presiding over the various smaller dominions on the system. Some attempted to seize the crown, but they were put down swiftly and harshly. At the time Ceraluen did not have a standing army, so whoever had the most capital would prove to be the victor of any conflicts.
Cayman City was completed in 495 ABY. It's unique architecture, galactic location, and beautiful landscape made it a haven for those looking for new opportunities. In the years that followed, tens of millions of people immigrated and invested, hoping for a positive return - something they would eventually receive. Over the following decades, cities continued to rise. Former business executives held dominion over these cities. None rivaled the power of Lord Protector Arbyr Vilas IV, just as all cities built paled in comparison to the grand Cayman City.

844 ABY, Ceraluen is a well-established planet known for it's tropical climate, passive aura, and city living. Billions had flocked to the system to live a life of luxury, or seek the opportunity to work their way toward it. Just as fast as they had arrived, thousands had disappeared. There had been rumors of offworld conflict of an unprecedented scale, but Ceraluen's isolationist policy kept them out of touch for a time. More people had disappeared, and rumors of Arbyr IV abdicating the throne began circulating. While capable of great ferocity, the Crown had always maintained a gentle touch with domestic policy, Arbyr IV maintaining a more gentle posture than most. Unable to solve the problem and overwhelmed with grief for his citizens, he had committed suicide in his personal quarters. The throne has passed to his lone heir - the now Queen Regent of Ceraluen, Giselle Vilas.

Notable PCs: @Giselle Vilas
Intent: To create a tropical planet under a monarchic rule, have a PC possess dominion over an entire system which no pre-established stories or history

Orbital Position: pls help

Basically refers to the position of the planet in reference to the local star. This can simply be habitable zone or if there are other intended planets, this can be the order. For instance, Earth is the 3rd planet from the sun.

Take a look at this resource for a deeper understanding:

Coordinates: pls help

Well, lets put the horse before the cart on this one. The provided imagery of location on the map wont work. Currently, only 4 planets are allowed per grid as you can see on the image, that current hex already has 5. So you need to find a new area. Once that is done, we should be able to work fine with that. If not, I'll provide you the coordinates.

History: Ceraluen was originally inhospitable for human life, requiring some degree of terraforming before it could be colonized after the Gulag Plague. Upon investment from the Vilas family, now known as House Vilas, towers began to rise and investors began to pour in. Being the first to enter though, the late Lord Vilas collected investments and put them towards development of the system. Investors received nothing but first dibs on land and business development. Over the years, a monarchic structure was instituted and the new House Vilas rose became the crowned rulers of Ceraluen. Centuries later, the system's success has grown exponentially, economically and otherwise. The Vilas' rule has remained unchallenged, as most found their regent to be more agreeable than most. Citizens would come to describe their rule as 'firm but fair'.

Simply put, this isn't enough for the history of a planet. I need a bit more detail about its existence, prior to the gulag plague. In terms of timing, I'm assuming that you mean from the start of the gulag plague, which provides about 400 years to take a barren planet from where it was to where it is now (plus 4 billion immigrants and substantial infrastructure). Which seems to rival coruscant in development, at least in how it's governed. So I need a ton of detail here in respect to how power was allocated (we talking a capitilist style oligarchy?). Are investors the one who retained power (Or in the case of the Villas family, how did they gain their foothold here)? Along with that, I need something in reference to the netherworld.

So provide additional history and perhaps culture and then we can move forward from there.

Sorry to take so long as this one. Had some real life stuff going on and I wanted to digest this for a bit. I'm pretty satisfied with the history you've put in, though I find it very suspect that this planet wasn't discovered until 256 ABY. I feel like its placement in the mid rim puts it in relative action zone. So I'd like a snippet in there about why this is the case (maybe it was discovered far earlier but the necessary materials for terraforming plus the economic expectations of the planet was too low to consider terraforming until the Villas family came around).

As for the placement, that looks good but you should know that with that, you are well in range for dominion by multiple factions. I mention this because as that occurs, it could very well change the nature of the planets government structure. No edited needed here. Just needed to point this out.

Major Exports: Water, Metal ore
Assuming you don't mean any rare forms of metal. Please take a bit to provide some examples of ores that might be available here.

Did you know that Socrates was the first person to recognize that deforestation would actually result in a loss of water, contrary to the believe that it increased water due to reduction in evapotranspiration? Just a fun fact. However, with the input of water and plants from other planets, you're looking at a potentially hostile circumstance in terms of invasive species and low biodiversity. Are we to assume that plants taken from other systems were done so from a similar enough ecosystem to avoid a loss in diversity that invasive plant species normally bring?

Changed metal ore to Durasteel ore
Working on a plausible explanation of the late discovery or an acceptable substitute. I'll PM you within the next 24 hours with any more specific questions that may arise.

[member="Reverance"]

Updated. Note that ore was changed to refined, and it can be inferred the necessary components are mined on the planet. This is supplemented by the presence of refineries in Port Lucia.

[member="Giselle Vilas"]

Welp, I'm satisfied with the edits. I don't think you'll need coordinates with the provided imagery. When you make your request to have the planet added to the map, just provide that. Valiens can correct me if I'm wrong on that.

Approved pending secondary.

Approved, though I could have sworn that there was a change to the rules that custom planets had to be placed in the outer rim, but I cannot find it.

When you post your map update request you'll see.
