OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Manufacturer: Crossroads Defense Industries
  • Affiliation: Crossroads Republic
  • Model: REPD-12 Rapid-Entry Drop Pod
  • Modularity: Yes
    • Can remove the personnel chairs to make room for boxes of supplies, ammunition, and equipment to turn the pod into a supply pod or pack it full of explosives and make it a delayed-action bomb meant to lure in curious enemy troops and kill them.
  • Production: Minor
  • Material: Quadanium Steel, Holographic Imagery Components, Shield Components, Sensor Components, Thruster Components, Inertial Dampener Components, Detonite
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Drop Pod
  • Role: Personnel Transport
  • Size: Average
  • Weight: Heavy
  • Armaments: None
  • Defenses: Very High
  • Maneuverability Rating: Average
  • Speed Rating: Very High
  • Propulsion: Thrusters
  • Minimum Crew: 0 (Set on its own course with internal navigational computer able to make course-correctional adjustments)
  • Optimal Crew: 1 (To make oral commands or make course corrections manually)
  • Passenger Capacity: 5 (Crew are also passengers as a drop pod, can also carry small droids as well as their passengers)
  • Cargo Capacity: Large
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Re-entry shield to protect the craft when entering atmosphere at terminal velocity.
  • Powerful inertial dampener to allow the craft to decelerate rapidly but still strike the ground hard.
  • Several doors which can be selected to open to the safest exit direction automatically.
  • Interior ceiling has a screen which cameras on the bottom of the pod send a feed to so the passengers know the situation they are walking into, able to show imagery in visual, thermal, and IR.
  • Holographic imagery equipment which projects on the bottom of the craft to show a screen around the bottom of the pod so that when looking up the craft is invisible to normal visual scans. From the sides or above it is easily visible and normal scanners can see them.
  • Each door has holographic imagers which project pre-recorded images of its occupants exiting the craft to act as decoys and draw enemy fire from the real occupants.
  • Quadanium Steel shell can absorb hits from laser cannons, heavy blasters, and grenades and protect the crew with ease while absorbing high-velocity impact.
  • Thrusters on the bottom are protected by a quadanium steel shell which ejects when the thrusters ignite to slow the pod.
  • Numerous smoke-deployer canisters automatically go off shortly before hitting the ground to mask the occupants dismounting their pod and to give them time to make for cover.
  • Explosive bolts to eject the pod doors in case they fail to open themselves.
  • Self-destruct charge which is activated by unauthorized entry into the pod after it has deployed its troops (A fragmenting detonite charge)
STRENGTHS
  • Strong construction and inertial dampeners can protect the occupants from many threats.
  • Can execute a very effective behind-the-lines surprise attack.
  • Can be used as a booby-trapped bomb, a supply pod, or a decoy when not in use as a troop pod.
  • Can be recovered and refitted with ease for repeated use.
WEAKNESSES
  • Once a pod is deployed there is no going back.
  • Unarmed and defenseless against heavy air defenses or a fast interceptor.
  • Never going to fool a proper scanner network.
  • Cannot lift off from the ground after landing.
DESCRIPTION
A deceivingly-complex vehicle meant to do a simple task, deliver elite Crossroads shock troops onto a planet as fast as possible.

The quadanium shell of this craft is capable of withstanding serious punishment from both impact and the kinds of weapons which are expected to be encountered at an enemy-held landing zone once it is selected. When deployed the occupants load up, and lock into their standing locks and the craft is jettisoned by its mothership into space, and its thruster propel it straight into an atmosphere, the craft's holographic imagers activating from behind the protection of their short-lived re-entry shields to fool any opponents who are looking up trying to shoot them down or anticipate where to move to counter them. For the Crossroads-deployed pods this will always occur at night to make the holographic imagers much more effective. As the craft continues downwards networked sensor feeds are shown on the ceiling-mounted screen so the troops inside can see what they're being dropped into. At the pre-determined altitude the bottom shell ejects and the thrusters fire, slowing the craft to the very threshold of impact survivability, after this smoke deployers eject smoke canisters which flood the area and the pod impacts shortly afterwards. The doors automatically sense if they are being engaged and the one taking the least hits will open. Holographic projectors above the other doors will activate and show images of the occupants exiting the pod at the same time as decoys to draw fire and sow confusion amongst the enemy. Afterwards these pods have a self-destruct mechanism that prevent enemy recovering the pods themselves. However, due to their toughness they are meant to be recovered by friendly forces, inspected, refitted, and reused.

These pods are vulnerable to heavy weapons such as heavy vehicle cannons and missiles and some rockets. They are also easier to spot during daylight hours, so it is recommended they be deployed in dark nights against areas that have been scouted to not have enemy armored assets with electronic countermeasures pre-empting their deployment and SEAD assets ready to engage any air defenses that activate to engage them. Without those steps being taken these pods could become one-way graves. But if guarded by these assets and actions a number of them could deploy as much as a battalion of troops behind enemy lines where they can do a lot of damage in very short order.

Good submission with one glaring problem.

  • Production: The scale is Unique (Only One Character), Semi-Unique (A single small unit, squad, or squadron), Limited (Only one small group of characters. IE: A Single Minor Faction, Company, or Group within a faction.), Minor
Please select a Production rating.

Let me know when you do so, so I can judge the rest of the submission.
