SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Fires an energized sphere of extremely hot and dense plasma which is able to badly damage many forms of armor plating and heavily deplete shielding.
  • The weapon's projectiles are precision guided by the craft's on-board targeting computer, leading to accuracy which varies from craft to craft, but with Crossroads Republic craft it tends to be very accurate.
  • Can be mounted using a strong magnetic clamp to the wing or underbelly of the craft in question without taking up a much-needed hardpoint for other munitions.
STRENGTHS
  • Excellent long-range performance.

WEAKNESSES
  • Heavy, can severely impede the balance and weight distribution of smaller craft, limiting their usefulness as a for-sale weapon.
  • If struck directly the pod will explode violently, absolutely dooming the craft carrying it.
  • Without a targeting computer the weapon is only as accurate as the pilot is aiming it.
  • Prone to giving away a craft's position due to the fact the sphere it launches is bright white, and leaves a slight trail behind it as it flies towards its target.
DESCRIPTION
A weapon commissioned specifically to fill the need to have an anti-armor weapon system which can operate without the need for ammunition resupply to give gunships and strike fighters longer mission endurance. This weapon fills the niche of tank-killer and anti-ship weapon very nicely, being a lethal counter to heavy armor plate. The large energized sphere it projects is capable of massive amounts of damage, cracking open ship hulls as if a blowtorch was taken to a sheet of ice. The Umbaran-sourced weapon is a symbol of great pride for the Crossroads Republic, which intends to utilize it to grim effect as a close air support weapon, intended to melt its opponents armored defenses and vehicles, particularly heavy walkers, never giving these battlefield behemoths a chance to bring their firepower to bear and leaving lighter enemy forces at the mercy of mobile armored Crossroads units whose strength would not, ideally, be weakened by combating such enemy vehicles prior to ground battle being joined.
