  • Material: Durasteel, Laminasteel, Laser Cannon Components, Sensor Components
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Point-Defense Turret
  • Size: Large
  • Weight: Very Heavy
  • Ammunition Type: Power Cell
  • Ammunition Capacity: Large
  • Effective Range: Long Range
  • Rate of Fire: Very High
  • Stopping Power: Very High
  • Recoil: High
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Two six-barrel rotary laser cannons
  • Two large capacitors connected one to a gun.
  • Two large and heavy power cells connected to the capacitors on each on gun.
  • An entire battery can be slaved to a fire-control system with independent sensor feed or individual turrets can be manually-controlled.
  • Has its own short-range sensors and an internal fire-control computer.
  • Can engage targets up to a kilometer and a half in altitude in atmosphere and five times that distance in space.
  • Can set its guns to engage targets with either direct impact or with explosive effects to form an incredibly-dense curtain of flak impenetrable to most missiles. These explosions set off small EM fields which, in large quantities have the potential to do a lot of damage to power systems, shields communications suites, navigation systems, targeting computers, and sensors along with the concussion and micro-shrapnel field doing physical damage to small craft.
  • Powered traverse and elevation systems can easily keep up with fast-moving craft.
STRENGTHS
  • Very capable weapon for missile interception.
  • Can be slaved to a larger air defense network for more coordinated fire.
  • More powerful and faster-firing than its predecessor.
  • Can wreak terrible damage on infantry and many armored vehicles.
  • Can very rapidly clear the skies of enemy starfighters so long as it is protected.
  • Its turret housing can deflect blaster fire and shrapnel from smaller or more distant indirect fire.
WEAKNESSES
  • A heavy and complex weapon, difficult to move and set up.
  • Cannot fire when it is on the move.
  • Has a lot that can go wrong with its complex mechanical and computer systems, any major failure in one major system could shut down the weapon.
  • Not very well-armored, vehicle-based weapons and rocket launchers carried by infantry can defeat the turret housing.
  • Can't reach aircraft at high-altitude in an atmosphere.
  • Can't harm anything the size of a well-protected corvette except in large numbers.
DESCRIPTION
Designed in response to the faults seen in the EM-2500 which had been mounted on ships and used in stationary defensive turrets. This major leap in point defense capability was tested rigorously and is set to become the primary short-range defense weapon of the next generation of refitted Crossroads Fleet warships and their major military defensive facilities. Its doctrinal basis is to counter the increasingly-capable threat of assault missiles, proton torpedoes, and fast strike bombers. So along with newly-installed missiles onto their ships this new weapon is designed to do what the EM-2500 tried to, but wasn’t quite good at by throwing ip a wall of flak under the guidance of targeting computers to control them. It was found that this weapon could the job of three of its predecessors so it was chosen for mass production. This weapons system is therefore capable of doing exactly that, especially when deployed in large numbers on ships such as battleships or carriers.
