Casus Belli? Did you order fries with that? (Fringe Dominion of Tar Mordren to 150)

Tar Mordren - a planet of industry, right smack dab in the former Omega Neutral Zone. If the Protectorate didn't already have enough reasons to take a swipe at the Fringe Confederation, this would put it over the edge. Because when one says 'in' the neutral zone, and one is talking about Tar Mordren, one really means that Tar Mordren is right up against the borders of the Protectorate.

As such, the name of the game is fortification. Rather than bring in their own, however, the Fringe has decided to clear some people out of an existing fortress, a huge ancient thing that still has more than enough space for anti-orbital turbolasers and shield generators. But first, everything needs to be wiped clean.

Specifically, Rebels. Yes, Tar Mordren is a secret base of the Rebel Alliance!

For the moment.

OOC/ Post however you like. There are Rebel caches all over the planet, and the one big fortress we need to clear out, plus big weapons and shield generators to move in in order to make this place viable for our next move. :D

HEART OF THE FORTRESS

"No no no no no. This isn't even close to being a forward operating base." Captain Jorus Q. Merrill scrambled into his trousers, missing his wife something fierce but glad she was nowhere near here. "What's the Fringe doing in force, this far into the neutral zone? Feth. Deck officer? Deck officer!"

"Sir?"

"Where's General Castillon?"

"No idea, sir. I'm not sure she's even still at the base."

The Finality-class supertransport Circumspect -- a name which had given rise to more than a few jokes, and more than a few quasi-accidental poisonings -- dropped out of hyperspace surrounded by an escort of Wasp heavy cruisers. Hammer-class landing craft fountained out of the ugly, ugly vessel. Your average Finality carried a quarter of a million troops, but half of this particular supertransport's landing craft contained materiel, big guns, shield generator components, perimeter alarms, speeders, prefab furniture, tasty food, and so forth.

Twelve hundred dropships descended on Tar Mordren like a hail of arrows.

On board the Chimaera

The hooded figure emerged from the shadow of a nearby wall and into the open. His yellow, predatory eyes scanned the area before finding Ashin Varanin. He had been on board the Star Destroyer since it's departure from the Spires of Hell, in the Atollis Nebula. He had left behind his own flagship in favor of attending the dominion of Tar Morden; and to continue his meeting with Ashin Varanin, which had begun on the ancient Celestial structure.

Stepped to her left as she sat on her throne, he said, "Tar Morden, on the border of the Omega Protectorate. I am not familiar with this system, on it's geography." He lowered his eyes to her. "Why have you brought me here?"

In the throne-like command chair of the flagship Chimaera, 'Grand Admiral Karrde' crossed her ankles, leaning back. She pulled up a holodisplay of the system, and of the region.

"Like I told you at the Spires of Hell, Darth Vazela, I want to know if you can figure out why we are here, why Tar Mordren is so crucial."

The hungry Dark Arrived at the tail end of the other ships. Something interesting had been planned by the Commander and Shinju was always looking for fun things to do while she sat there in the Dark Desire. After all the other things they were now facing Rebels, rebels again which could prove useful in the long run. Give her a very clear target of who to kill and who to hurt. Plus a fortress would be a fun place to go and build up their many many things to strike at the galaxy. That was why Shinju had moved towards the Dark Desire and was in the smaller craft playing with the twin sith swords. Their bladed teeth something enjoyable she had found when torturing people. She had never tried a chainsaw before. This was something they would and should take easy but there was another part. Her eyes drifted towards the fighters they were experimenting on to try and make. Something fast, stealthy and small compared to the rest. Hopefully the commander would approve of them while the ships tri wings and dagger shape let them hide the small ion cannon at the bottom.

A communiqué came from the immense supertransport to the Hungry Dark, the Black Hex star destroyer that Shinju used as a command ship.

"Empress Ayasha, this is Merrill. My forces will be closing with the Rebel fortress soon. May I assume, or request, that you'll be going in first to bring some degree of pain and soften up the target? If so, it would be much appreciated."

He averted his gaze from Ashin to the screen ahead. Leaning his head to the left, he thought about it. He remembered his discussion with Tyrin Ardik over a year ago about an alliance called the Axis of Powers. The alliance was made between several factions, who were all opposed to the Omega Protectorate; and here they were in a star system on the border of Protectorate space, hosting a dominion over a world that was not under their control.

He spoke whilst facing the helmsman. "You're setting up a base of operations near the Protectorate. What are your diplomatic relations with them?"

REBEL FORTRESS

Buckling his ammunition bandolier over his vest, Jorus stalked onto one of the fortress's many stone balconies. A hail of huge dropships, over a thousand of them if intel was right, punched through the clouds several miles from the Rebel base. The base had no long-range weapons, nothing that could interrupt the landing in any substantive way. They had, however, fortified this base very heavily, with autoturrets and even traps.

His Mandalorian shell gun's breech snicked shut.

In her throne-like command chair, Ashin looked up from the holodisplays.

"Oh, war's on the horizon, no question about it, but a base of operations near Protectorate space is of no use without a plan. Any long-term position here will invite a strike. No, what I want to see from you, Lord Vazela, is an educated guess as to what this base of operations is for. Why here, of all sectors? Why all this, why take this risk?"

He turned away from the screen and to the map. His eyes studied the nearby worlds and the geography of the Tar Morden system. What caught his eye was the hyperlane that it was situated on. The Corellian Trade Spine was under the control of the Omega Protectorate up until this star system. Was she trying to blockade it?

"You're planning for a war," he said as he turned back to the screen. "The supply lines between the Protectorate would be stopped between Pendari and Bespin, if this map is up to date with the current territory of the Protectorate. Could you possibly be setting up a blockade on the Corellian Trade Spine whilst simultaneously creating a beachhead for attack?"

"Oh, there's no question that this position will starve out everything from Bespin to Gehenna, but the staging point side of things is a little more crucial. From here, we're capable of launching major strikes at Sullust, Sluis Van, Bespin, Thyferra, Naboo, or Vandelhelm -- all very significant Protectorate worlds. My eye is on Naboo, to cut Protectorate space in half, or Sluis Van, to take a chunk out of their shipbuilding capacity. But ultimately, the centrality of this position means that they need to either deal with us very quickly, redistributing their massed forces, or they need to split their defense between all the major worlds we're now in a position to hit."
She eyed him for a long moment, then turned back to the holomap. "As I told you before, Lord Vazela, this is where things get done. No stagnation, just growth. Building of collective and personal powerbases for a number of projects. Innumerable Unknown Regions boltholes to hide your command ship. Access to the finest biological and materials alchemists and alchemical resources in the galaxy, bar none."

I smiled as I was dressed nicely in my armor, with all the weapons I could carry with me. Excluding my bow, I had just about every weapon type with me. Saber, Sword, daggers, chain, a borrowed D-11 pistol, and the force itself. Standing on the bridge of Chimaera. I stood behind the two masters that were talking about out possible attack against the Omega Pyre. Truly I had once been with them and aided in the help of the Shapers having a 'Big brother' to lean on. But now, I wanted them for the Fringe. Kro Var was a planet that I loved dearly. And had to take alot of precautions just to visit my old home there. Really the Sith that was standing with Ashin and I on the bridge was worrying about war that was coming. However, that was what I wanted.

Moving forwards would put us in an advantage against the Protectorate. As well as grow the Fringe itself. With my hood down and my mask off, I stayed silent among the Masters here.

He presumed his guess work was right or at least partly. But with this woman, there was the possibility that there was something else to Tar Morden, something that she hadn't implied or allowed him a glimpse to see. He had guessed everything he could from the combined conversations they had on the Spires of Hell and now on the Chimaera. "You've already said that I should join you and I concede that the aforementioned resources are beneficial to me. However, these things and more I could gain from the Empire, for I am one of three Lords of the Sith..."

He trailed off, back still turned to her, hood still up. He had deployed several techniques in the little words he spoke for her to reveal her intentions. Already, this was a battle of minds to see who could come up on top. He nearly smiled. He hadn't had a conversation like this in a long time.

"Master Imura," said Ashin, turning away from Vazela for a moment, "I'm pleased to see you could join us. I'm told there are veins or pockets of flammable gas underneath portions of the rebel fortress. If anyone can use them to our advantage while ensuring that there's no structural damage -- I want that fortress intact -- it's you. Would you be willing to undertake that mission for me?"

@[member="Vilox Pazela"]

"Lord Vazela, I ruled the Empire as Ashin Varanin, Desmius the First. I know its assets. More specifically, I have in my employ certain individuals who were privy to the Empire's last great attempts at alchemy. I've lured away all of their finest alchemical specialists and scholars, and given them everything they want. The complete heist of every holocron, artifact, spellbook and scroll in the Sith Empire's archives was performed by longtime associates of mine, and the vast majority of that material currently belongs to persons I consider friends. Right now, if my sources are correct, the Empire has three functional alchemists: You, Kaine, and his aide. The true heritage of alchemical powers, resources, and skills has passed from the Empire to my domain.

"Welcome to the new age, Lord Vazela."

"I see. So you've been the unseen factor to everything that has happened in the past few years. Interesting." He was confident that if he were a true Sith then he would begin plotting the demise of Ashin Varanin there and then, in retaliation for all that she had done to the Empire since she had been usurped by Voracitos all those years ago. But he was better than them. There was something to gain from this situation.

"Would you like to know why I sought you out on that Abominor, Lady Desimus?" he asked.

I smiled as the Sith seemed to have tried tactics against Ashin. But still, She forgot about him for a minute to send me into a tunnel where flammable gasses could explode, That would be me. A fire shaper at heart. This would be easy. With a nod of my head I turned around and headed towards my ship to take me down planet side. "Get me to the rebel base, fast."

She rose from the throne, clasping her hands behind her back, and examined the starscape that framed the world of Tar Mordren.

"It's 'Desmius,' Lord Vazela," she said mildly, "and no, I think I could guess merely from context. As you can tell, I enjoy guessing games. Tell me if my logic tracks clean here.

"I sensed you there with Circe Savan, an old associate of mine. Anyone who willingly works closely with Circe Savan can have only a handful of interests -- benevolence for a broken psyche, sexual interest, or kindredness of spirit. I would never mistake you for benevolent, and the latter two interests are not mutually exclusive, though one may require the other. You don't strike me as a flighty libertine. Instead, you strike me as someone who shares, above all, her love for power, possessions, and position. You sought me out for what I can give you in terms of one of those three. Either I own something you dearly want, and I doubt that based on your reactions to my offers, or you think association with me can grant you power.

"It's entirely possible you're here to kill me and take my position, but your interest in the Fringe, including its territory and growth, has seemed...sparse. I think you, like so many before you, chafe when a strong hand rules the Sith Empire, and Kaine is the strongest leader they've had since me.

"But Kaine is an easy person to disrespect, if you don't fully know what he's capable of. His taste for the grandiose leads many to underestimate him. My suspicion is that you fall somewhere in the middle -- you can't fully respect Kaine, but you know you can't handle him and his supporters alone. Like all Dark Masters, you want a throne of one kind or another. You want the one thing that your current status can't get you. It's the sort of play that Circe would make if she was a more experienced Master, and I sense much kindredness of spirit between the two of you in that respect. You want to be Emperor, and you want my backing to do it.

"Does my logic track clean, Vazela?"

On board the Astral Horizon.

Jared was frowning slightly at an 3D map of Tar Mordren's surface, it seemed the planet was dealing with a rebel infestation. He was not sure how it came to be that every time he turned around another one of those pesky vermin popped up, they always seemed to appear at most inconvenient times. "When will things finally get easier? It seems as if a God directs the events on our world. Making sure we have obstacles to face, so that we do not rush through our dominions." he chuckled softly to himself. It was a ridiculous notion, of course. But it still bothered him a bit.

Gesturing towards the Admiral, he reached out towards the minds of the people on the Chimaera. "My Empress, you might have noticed my arrival. Do I have permission to come on board?" Lord of the Fringe or not, he would never presume too much. That was a one-way ticket to Death-city and he was not planning on travelling there anytime soon.

She did not have the formal title of Empress, not here in the Fringe; Ovmar persisted in addressing her that way, though, presumably as a mark of respect. She walked back to the chair and touched a comm control. "Lord Ovmar, you're always welcome aboard the Chimaera. I'm on the bridge, in discussions with an ally. We would be honored if you would join us."

She cut the channel and turned to @[member="Vilox Pazela"]. "Lord Ovmar's Force skill has not yet attained Mastery," she explained, "but he's a valuable leader and a wise counselor. And, in due course, he'll be strong in the Force as well. In a sense, I consider him my heir; formally, he's a member of the ruling council, the four of us who have the final word over the Confederation. Diplomatically, he's my equal, and I'd ask that you offer him every courtesy you've offered me."
