Question Can plasma blades that AREN'T lightsabers exist?

Bear with me here. So in doing some research to come up with something cool and 'edgy' for my character, I discovered that there was a variant of laser sword that wasn't a lightsaber. While similar in design, it was actually a blade that was used in duels on the planet Velmor (or Valmor, I forget the spelling). Energy blades and of course Vibroblades also existed, but it got me thinking...
Would it be possible to create a plasma-based blade/dagger/knife/what-have-you that didn't follow the build model of a lightsaber? And if so, how would one go about creating one? I need help, because I'm considering making something like it but I'm hitting a wall for creative methods in which to explain its creation and function. Any ideas?

Yes, I remembered where I had seen that stuff.
Excerpt from Elite Praetorian Guard on Wookieepedia
The Praetorian Guards boasted an arsenal of melee weapons[6] that were high-tech versions of unpowered analogs found in primitive societies across the galaxy, such as long vibro-voulges, electro-bisentos with an electro-plasma energy filament running along the blade's edge[3]—flailing Bilari electro-chain whips, and heavy double-bladed vibro-arbir blades that could also be separated into[6] dagger-like single-bladed weapons to adjust to any battle scenario.

Description of one of the weapons mentioned (Vibro-Vulge)
Like all the other high-tech weapons used by the Elite Praetorian Guard to defend Supreme Leader Snoke, the tempered metal blade of the vibro-voulge was connected to a compact ultrasonic generator that created a high-frequency vibration across the cutting edge, which increased its lethality in the process. Parallel to this, there was an electro-plasma filament that created an energised blade capable of parrying a lightsaber. However, unlike most the of Elite Praetorian Guard's weapons, the vibro-voulge had a power cell in the base of the hilt.

They're more edges or fields that cover blades than full plasma blades, but they work in the same way, basically.

If you keep the spirit of this stuff, you're free to play around with it as much as you want.

I mean, it's kinda hard to shy away from the lightsaber model where the blade is pure plasma, its a pretty simple model.

Lightsabers and lightsaber variants like lightfoils (Lightfoil | Wookieepedia | Fandom ) come in great varieties and shapes. I mean, just look at the Darksaber (Darksaber | Wookieepedia | Fandom ), it's a lightsaber that barely looks like the tradational idea of a lightsaber. Not only is its color wildly different, its shape is distinctly more edge like.

Essentially, you don't have to reinvent the wheel because there are so many options to take. But if you want to, all the more power to you! You just might have to wait until after the factory re-opens to submit it officially to our fanon.

Lightfoils, Velmorian Energy Swords, and the laser knife all come to mind. Although, technically, lightfoils are just a lightsaber variation, but one that had low-quality variants made that were used by non-Force Sensitive people. Also there are the non-Velmorian energy swords if you want to go with those, used by super-elderly Jedi and Sith for ceremonies and such, probably because they're supposed to be not as dangerous or powerful as lightsabers, but they could definitely still hurt.

Zayani Brin Zayani Brin - If your making custom tech and dont want it the same as a lightsaber then do the Velmorian Energy Sword route or Lightfoil. Both are not a lightsaber but still have the same properties. In Legends they are not as powerful as a traditional lightsaber but through the factory who know what your brain could whip up to change that.

On my Moff character I made energy swords for the entire NIO. So you can most definitely do it

As mentioned by Bernard of Arca the First Order used weapons of the Vibro-Arbir Blade, and the Electro-Bisento which had plasma technology integrated to the blade to allow a much superior cutting power. However, they lacked the ability to deflect blasterfire and were heavier than energy melee weapons. Even Phase-Knives.

Another set of weapons of the same mindset are the Kyuzo Petar.

There are also Forcesabers, which operate slightly differently than the typical lightsaber, As the Lightsabers were created as a "walmart brand" of the Forcesaber and were less powerful than the force saber. Considering Forcesabers were powerful enough that they could destroy Force-imbued blades, which were considered nearly-indestructible like Sith Swords.

You also have Legit "Lazer Swords" which have little to no other information that they were used.

Just because it's important to clarify, that specific article is non-canonical, and relates only to early drafts of the Star Wars story, back before lightsabers/"lazer swords" were made exclusive to Jedi and Sith. Best not to consider that one when we already have the lightfoils, velmorian energy swords, and non-branded energy swords around, which all serve the same idea.

I'm no Factory Judge but,

I've seen armor submitted that could magically change size, color, material, and dimension between 'dog' form and 'human' form approved on our forums. So...

I say, yes. You can totally build the craziest-of-crazy stuff on this website.

That said. Just steal a Jedi's lightsaber. It's bigger, stronger, and easier to explain. 2 cents. :D :p
