OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
SETTING INFORMATION
  • City Name: Camp Spyridon
  • Classification: Refugee Settlement
  • Location: Freehold Storlinn, Erakhis
  • Affiliation: Refugee Relief Movement | Lao-mon Planetary Defense Forces
  • Population: Crowded
  • Demographics: Shi'ido; outsiders are permitted, but there is little reason for them to stay.
  • Wealth: Poor
  • Stability: Low
  • Freedom & Oppression: Those who live in the settlement are there because they have no other place to go. Desperation has caused many to turn to crime. The various clans within the camp have attempted to maintain some semblance of order amongst themselves, but traditional divisions between families has given rise to tribalism.
  • Description: Camp Spyridon is a refugee camp that sprung up on the outskirts of Freehold Storlinn in the aftermath of the failed liberation of Lao-mon and subsequent genocide against the Shi'ido perpetrated by the Brotherhood of the Maw. It consists mainly of semi-permanent housing constructed inside an old sports dome, as well as underwater structures.
POINTS OF INTEREST
The Aquadome - A large sports arena that once hosted some of Erakhis' greatest sports tournaments, the Aquadome fell into disuse some years ago. Now it houses the bulk of the refugees in a sprawling camp. The structure is leaky, but stable enough to shelter the refugees from the worst of the planet's violent storms.

Underwater Housing - Old, abandoned, and/or vacant homes below sea level are currently inhabited by some of the refugees, but much more noticeable are the "bubble houses" created by the Shi'ido out of nenuphar, a biological building material. Bubble houses are mobile and resistant to kinetic impacts, and also offer more privacy to their residents. Because the process of making them is time-consuming, however, they are reserved for only the wealthiest residents, or those with special connections.

SECURITY
Medium
; the Erakhian government has made a few attempts at cracking down on crime and maintaining order inside the camp. Most Shi'ido are willing to cooperate, but some have holed up in underwater homes, establishing their own law and order.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The Brotherhood of the Maw's conquest of Lao-mon generated a fairly small trickle of refugees at first. The Shi'ido were able to blend in with their natural environment, evading detection by slavers looking to capture them. Then the SJC and its allies arrived, mounting an attack upon the Maw's center of operations. The Shi'ido rebel army joined in, fighting to liberate their homeworld... but the attack failed.

The defeat was catastrophic for the Shi'ido, as the Maw announced their intent to exterminate them. Using a chemical known as the Wretchedness, they began bombing the jungle. The Wretchedness causes a slow death by suffocation, and it can kill with the barest skin contact or by breathing it in. Naturally, the trickle of refugees fleeing Lao-mon became a flood as the Shi'ido desperately tried to escape the genocide.

One group of ships arrived on Erakhis, where the planetary government, after the lobbying of Shi'ido immigrant Inanna Yomin, agreed to take the refugees in. The result is Camp Spyridon.
