- Fighter Swarms The Callides-class Heavy Carrier is among the most formidable of space-craft carriers, able to provide crucial fighter support for a small fleet single handedly.
- Long-range Fire Support: Unlike lightly armed carriers of similar size, the Callides boasts an intimidating array of weapons that could easily rival the output of standard battlecruisers.
- Shield Tank: When within range of enemy weaponry, the Callides relies upon its above average shield systems, allowing it to take significant amounts of firepower for a moderate amount of time.
- Embedded Command Center: Unlike many other Eternal Fleet ships, the Command Center is embedded within the center of the ship rather than protruding from a top-positioned citadel, rendering it harder to knock out the bridge with concentrated fire.

- Lumbering: Given its awkwardly long size, the Callides is unable to turn with any real speed or urgency. This renders the ship at a disadvantage in close range engagements against other capital-class ships.
- Easy Target: Although its shield and armor systems are respectable, and the Command Center is nested within the ship rather than protruding outside of it, the ship is very long and comparatively slender. Should the shields fail, it would be all too easy to target segments of the ship to attempt breaking it apart. While it’s armor can tank a respectable amount of damage, few ships could successfully weather such concentrated assault for long.
- Power Hungry: Given its large array of weapons systems, the Callides carries a duo of compact Isotope reactors dedicated to the function of their heavier ‘Desolator’ disruptor batteries and Ion Cannons. These reactors require heavy maintenance and constant supervision while in use so as to allow for consistent volleys of fire. While the use of two such reactors mitigates the risk of total reactor failure and being defenseless when it matters, it is a liability nonetheless. There is always a risk that both reactors suffer a failure - forcing the ship to rely on its main reactor to power its remaining weapon systems.

After lagging behind such nations as the Confederacy of Independent Systems & the New Imperial Order with regard to heavier classes of ships, as well as variety of carriers for larger fleet actions, ZOCOM issued yet another R&D requisition which gave birth to the Callides-Class Heavy Carrier. True to the Eternal Fleet’s doctrine of utilitarianism and overwhelming force, the Callides is a carrier unlike any other to date. Not only does it house a massive complement of starfighter squadrons and support craft (numbering at 360 fighters, 60 shuttles & 60 gunships), but it also contains an arsenal that could qualify it as a heavy star destroyer in her own right.
While the Callides could definitely hold her own in a fight against all but dreadnoughts and the most intimidating of battlecruisers, shrewd commanders do well to keep her at a distance so as to operate as a long range support ship when at all possible. Additionally, the Callides hosts a cluster of cruise missile tubes and ordnance batteries, allowing it to serve in a planetary support/bombardment capacity as well.
Given the immensity of both costs and labor associated with producing a Callides-class Carrier, use of these ships is reserved for Admirals and Senior Commodores, who have both the experience and authority to command the inner workings of a carrier, tactical operations of a gunship, and likely the flagship of a fleet.
