DESCRIPTION
The CAF-12 Constellation is a Chiss designed military transport used for the secure movement of personnel or critical cargo throughout the Chiss ascendancy. Although designed for military use, the ship was lightly-armed enough to also see manufacture for civilian sale and use by Chiss citizenry. When traveling in territory that limits the use of lasers on civilian space, a power-limiter can be installed on the laser cannons to further reduce their output to heavy blaster-cannon intensities.

The ship has minimal manpower requirements, allowing just a single operator to command the ship, aided by a droid autopilot and an autodoc system to aid them should they fall ill or become injured. This was a common feature on transport vessels which might need to act as blockade runners in a pinch, allowing them to complete their delivery missions even if most of the crew is wounded or killed by enemy action.

One unique feature of the Constellation was its ability to carry its own escort. An external docking point exists where a starfighter can be linked to the ship and transported with it through hyperspace. If an enemy patrol encroaches on the vessel, the starfighter can be deployed to help defend the transport. Sometimes, this feature was also used to ferry replacement starfighters to squadrons which had suffered a loss and needed a quick replacement.

Few of the Constellation Transports still operate in the galaxy, due to the destruction of the Chiss homeworld. However, Chiss faction leaders possess the blueprints and have the necessary authorizations to manufacture additional models, strictly for sale to Chiss operators.
