OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To establish a base of operations for the resurgent Clan Kryze in order for them to fulfill their duties as Protectors.
  • Image Credit: Sparth on ArtStation.
  • Canon: N/A
  • Permissions: You will find here a screen capture of my asking (and receiving) permission from the current faction head of the Mandalorian Enclave to establish this installation.
  • Links: Kestri, The Mandalorian Enclave, Maji Ironworks
SETTING INFORMATION
  • Military Base Name: B'yaim Haar Cabur - Home of The Protectors. Formerly known as Outpost Terminus.
  • Classification: Outpost
  • Location: Inuyahya'baar, the moon of Kestri.
  • Affiliation: Clan Kryze, with the approval of the Mandalorian Enclave.
  • Population: Insignificant - The Clan is still picking itself up from many years of decline. Fifty or so warriors are all they have to their name at the moment: however, their numbers are rapidly swelling.
  • Demographics: N/A
  • Accessibility: B'yaim Haar Cabur is located in the very heart of the Mandalorian Enclave on Kestri's moon of Inuyahya'baar. It is completely off limits except to permitted guests of Clan Kryze once they have been approved by the Alor or the Alor'ad. Otherwise, the immediate area and airspace around the base and the base itself are off limits to anyone else.
  • Description: Built into a cliffside and accessible only by crossing a bridge over a small ravine, B'yaim Haar Cabur is quite the imposing outpost from afar. Although not quite secret, all Clan members are encouraged to mention the existence of their home to as few people as possible - and to never mention its exact location. Given the nature of Inuyahya'baar as a mostly unsettled moon, finding the base is only a matter of time for someone with determination and access to sufficiently effective scans: with that said, the fact that most of the installation rests beneath the surface allows for a certain measure of privacy, if only at first glance. There are only two entrances into the base itself, either through the vehicle bay, or from the landing pad. From there, an elevator system leads into the subterranean section of the outpost, where the warriors of the Clan can rest, recuperate, and mingle in peace.
POINTS OF INTEREST

Above Ground

Landing Area

Although a base with such a small garrison hardly requires a constant resupplying of food, ammunition, or electrical components, the Clan's dedication to serve as a rapid response force to any incursion necessitates a landing area large enough to accommodate a significant amount of starfighters at once. This landing area, standing atop the vehicle bay, doubles as the entry to the base. In most cases, this is where members of the Clan both arrive and depart from, taking the elevator system to lead them to the levels below.

Air Control Tower

As an important part of its duties, Clan Kryze seeks to keep a close eye on any air activity around their outpost - and the rest of the moon itself. Because of this as well as the sheer amount of starfighters necessary to maintain a quick response force, the air control tower is absolutely necessary. All manner of reports filter through to the tower, from diagnostic checks regularly run on the outpost's perimeter defenses to reports received from the communications array. New arrivals and any incoming cargo much check in before being allowed to land on the base itself. In the case of an attack on the home of the Clan, the air control tower has the primary responsibility of organizing the defense squadrons while in flight. The tower also conveniently includes a large meeting room, allowing for conferences to occur without the need to bring unauthorized personnel below ground - namely, representatives from other Clans or technicians from the communications array.

Elevators

There are two elevator systems present around B'yaim Haar Cabur: one meant for personnel, to take them across the different levels, and a larger one connecting the landing pad to the vehicle bay below, mostly meant for equipment or vehicle transportation. Those who wish to take the elevator down must possess identification codes given to them upon their joining the Clan.

Vehicle Bay

Sitting right beneath the landing area, the vehicle bay is where the living quarters of Outpost Terminus were once located. Now, this reconverted area has become home to the Clan's vehicles, ranging from nimble speeder bikes to assault walkers and main battle tanks. Because of its status as the ground floor of the outpost, it is, more often than not, where most will find themselves first.

Below Ground
Living Quarters

Security measures considerably relax once someone makes it below the earth, and enters the living accommodations of Clan Kryze. In order to serve as a comfortable home, the more spartan approach espoused by some Mandalorians has been eschewed in favor of some rather pleasant living conditions for those few, but proud warriors chosen by the Alor. Thanks to the relatively small amount of Clan members, each individual room is large enough to accommodate all of the specific needs of each and every individual Clan member, with enough room and flexibility given to them to change and rearrange their room to their heart's content.

Hearth

Far from a traditional mess hall, the hearth is, admittedly, more of a giant kitchen. Clan members are encouraged to mingle here, and to respect an old tradition: those who arrive must eat the food prepared for them, then make a meal for the next group to come on over and repeat the cycle. Eating the food and failing to prepare a meal for those who come after is seen as social faux pas.

Lounge

The Mandalorians of Clan Kryze are expected to partake in plenty of training to make sure that they do not lose their proficiency in battle. However, even great warriors must unwind from time to time in order not to lose themselves to battle fatigue, and so the lounge was made in order to provide a comfortable space for them to rest and meet with other Clan members. Simple, but meaningful amenities go a long way: from the hololibrary to the well-stocked bar, the well-being of the Clan's warriors is well looked after in order to make them feel at home.

Memorial Hall

The Memorial Hall is where Clan Kryze honors the fallen. All are welcome to walk around and pay their respects to those who have come before them. In the very center sits a large statue of a great hero of times long past, brandishing the Darksaber high above their head. At their feet, the helmets of the fallen are laid to rest. When the time comes for someone to be inducted within the Clan, they are brought here to swear their oaths - a place of honor, to be sure, but a reminder that, should they ever break their oaths, they will have done so beneath the gaze of the departed, as well as the likeness of a Mand'alor.

Mausoleum

Adjacent to the Memorial Hall is the Clan's mausoleum, where the departed are laid to rest. Sometimes, their armor is buried alongside them, if they expressed a desire for it before their demise.

Dojo

The second largest section of the underground section of the outpost, beaten only by the living quarters, the Dojo offers all a warrior needs to remain at their best thanks to its three wings. A firing range where credits and drinks are often bet on marksmanship contests, a large arena comprised of smaller circles where unarmed combat is practiced just as well as bladework, a training simulation room in order to study and prepare for specific scenarios - all possibilities are covered. With that said, the most important part of the Dojo sits in the very center, where one must pass by to reach any of the aforementioned wings: in keeping with Clan Kryze's ancient traditions from their days on Kalevala centuries ago, an artificial "hill" is fought over in a series of duels. Clan members often compete to become King of the Hill, holding on to that title for as long as they can, although they can be challenged at any time by another Clan member.

Armory

Although Mandalorians are known to favor specific weapons as part of their individual loadouts, different situations can call for them to mix up their choice of weapons. Because of this, the armory is always kept well-stocked in order to distribute specialized equipment at a moment's notice, from humble blaster pistols to rotary cannons and rocket launchers. No armor is to be found here, however.

Workshop

This is where the tinkerers of the Clan go to spend many sleepless nights inventing new weapons, armor, and equipment. In spite of repeated attempts to curtail the pursuit of most research into exotic ammunition types, accidents do happen at times. A rivalry of sorts exists between those who frequent the Workshop and those favor the Forge instead: Alor and Alor'ad alike keep a watchful eye to ensure that it does not evolve into anything worth worrying about.

Forge

B'yaim Haar Cabur was reclaimed by an accomplished smith of the Kayatr'ade, and it shows. Here, those trained in the art of metalsmithing come to repair and restore damaged beskar, forge new suits and weapons if provided with sufficient material, or provide instruction to those of the Clan showing promise for the craft. Although humble compared to the facilities found on Kestri, it provides more than enough for the needs of the resurgent Clan.

Infirmary

Although not quite the most advanced of medical facilities, the Clan's infirmary remains a place where life-saving work can be conducted. More often than not, a gravely wounded Clan member will be taken to Kestri if possible, then brought back to the infirmary once their condition has stabilized enough for the Clan to take over the process of watching over them as they heal.

Storage Area

Having a dedicated storage area never hurts - especially when it comes to the needs of stockpiling supplies in the event of a lockdown. Should Clan Kryze find itself besieged, there is enough non-perishable food and ammunition to last them through a few months.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Outpost Terminus | 863 ABY

With the Mandalorian rediscovery of Kestri and its ensuing reconquest from the Yuuzhan Vong, the proud warriors sought to remain hidden to all but the Mando'ade as they set about the difficult task of rebuilding the long-dormant world into a haven for their people. Because of this, the establishment of long-range communications on Inuyahya'baar, the moon of Kestri, was met with some measure of trepidation: some among their numbers feared that living in all but complete isolation would only bring unwanted attention to them. Nevertheless, construction of facilities began, and with it, a small and humble garrison made up of volunteers from many Clans was established in order to protect the facilities from a possible attack. Originally made up of nothing more than living quarters with a landing pad above it, the assignment was seen as something of a punishment detail in the eyes of some - a place to send hotshot pilots to teach them some humility. Frugal accommodations and rigorous patrols over the moon made the day to day life of the garrison a monotonous affair. The Bes'kyrade soon dubbed this graveyard of dreams Outpost Terminus: the name stuck.

Vigilance | 869 ABY

As the secrecy of the safe haven was finally shattered, the Mandalorian Enclave embraced its place in the galaxy. The communication system on Inuyahya'baar was vastly improved during that time, its sole purpose as a listening post no longer sufficient for the rapidly-growing Enclave and its needs: and, although aruetii were discouraged from visiting Kestri itself, the outpost grew in size and scope nonetheless, if only to dissuade the curious and crush any would-be trespassers. The humble landing pad on the surface grew to accommodate more and more crafts, and in time, the living quarters were completely reconstructed into a vehicle bay meant to accommodate the growing needs of the defense force. With more funds poured into the military installation, the garrison dug deep into the earth and established their new living quarters underground.

Diminishing Strength | 880 ABY

As the Mandalorian Enclave declined and lost its hold on many worlds, the garrison on Inuyahya'baar diminished. Calamity after calamity struck the Mandalorian people as a whole: the Second Hyperspace War had already bled them of manpower, but what truly sounded the death knell of the outpost was the poor leadership of Romul Saxon in the wake of the New Shuror tragedy. Finally convinced of the pointlessness of their task as defenders of a lifeless rock, more and more warriors left in search of something more, dissatisfied with what they perceived to be the slow death of all they had once fought for. Few were those willing to endure the monotonous drills and patrols, leading to a very controversial decision: the replacement of over half of the warriors with automated systems and droids, meant to ease the burden of those who remained on station. This change not only affected Outpost Terminus, but the rest of the facilities on Kestri's moon as well: a move that would come back to haunt the Enclave.

A communications blackout was quickly followed by an unexpected and brutal droid rebellion: in the first hour alone, three quarters of the Mandalorians on the moon were cornered and eliminated. Operating in the dark as they were, the survivors mounted a brave, if suicidal counter-offensive deep into the depths of the communications network, destroying the central core of the AI housed there, ending the crisis. Although a catastrophe had been averted, the Enclave never fully recovered from it. Outpost Terminus was put on permanent lockdown, and what remained of the garrison relocated to provide security for the communications array itself, vowed to protect the technicians there.

B'yaim Haar Cabur | 902 ABY

After twenty years of stagnation, came the time for a new dawn. With a strong leadership and a fire burning in their hearts, the Mandalorians set out once more to take their place among the stars, no longer content to waste away on their safe haven. As relations broke down between the Mandalorian Enclave and the Galactic Alliance, war became inevitable - and in the wake of a Mandalorian strike deep in Alliance space, the determination of the revitalized Crusaders seemed truly boundless. But not all Mando'ade chose to walk such a path. Seizing the mantle of Alor of her Clan, Jenn Kryze openly rejected the Crusade, vowing to offer another path to her people: to stand by her side as Protectors.

With a modest, but no less determined following, this new Alor claimed Outpost Terminus for Clan Kryze with the blessing of the Triumvirate. Renamed B'yaim Haar Cabur, or "Home of The Protectors", the Clan set about the task of transforming the outpost into a home as well as a staging point from which they could rapidly respond to any incursion into the Kestri system. The Clan's choice is not only strategic, but symbolic as well: by protecting the system's long-rage communications array, their dedication to the protection of the home of their people is undeniable. Should Kestri ever come under attack, the Clan's fate is tied to that of their home, and purposefully so.
