    SPECIAL FEATURES
    • Dual Based Shields: Many traditional deflector shield systems use a combination of ray and particle shielding to provide protection against a variety of threats. Buckler follows this rough similar arrangement, but instead of using particle shielding to provide protection against kinetic threats, it uses a network of anti-concussion fields.
    • Dual Powerflow Technology: Buckler can transfer energy from its ray shielding components to boost the strength of its anti-concussion field generators, and vice versa. This allows Buckler-equipped vessels to optimize their protection against foes more prone to using one type of weapons technology.
    • Variable Settings: Buckler can be run in a manner to any basic deflector shield system found on smaller craft, providing its host ship with galactic standard strength and regeneration rates. However, it can also use different programming and overbuilt hardware components to replicate effects of some previous Lucerne Labs technology found on its larger vessels. In "Reactive Mode", Buckler maintains relatively low shield strength but a more rapid regeneration rate to build up an excess charge in its capacitors. This excess charge can be used to rapidly reinforce an area thought to be but it also takes in information from the equipped vessel's sensor systems to rapidly reinforce that saved energy to overboost shielding in areas that are predicted to imminently take more damage, making that reinforced sector significantly harder to pierce with heavy weapons. Its other alternate mode is double-layered. In this mode, an entire sector of shielding is lost and is instead projected several meters in front of another shield arc - thus doubling the layers of shielding in a given zone. This effectively allows it to act like spaced armor - the first shielding layer disrupts and breaks apart the cohesiveness of an attack (a warhead detonates before it's fully in range of a target or a laser cannon bolt may shift offcenter and dissipate some of its energy).
  • STRENGTHS
    • Options: The Buckler's ability to use multiple regeneration modes along with overpowering either the ray shields or the anti-concussion field generator gives the user more options than traditional deflector shield generators.
    • Kinetic Edge (Standard / Reinforced Anticoncussion Field): By using finely anti-concussion field generators instead of particle shields, Buckler provides greater kinetic resistance than many traditional deflector shield systems by partially arresting movement by incoming objects before they impact the ship itself.
    • Energy Edge (Reinforced Ray Shielding): By shifting energy from the anti-concussion field generators, the Buckler can boost its ray shielding beyond its standard abilities.
  • WEAKNESSES
    • Ion Prone: It appears that the Buckler is less resistant to ion weapons than traditional deflector shield systems - this is thought to possibly that traditional particle shields may interact with ions in a different manner than the anti-concussion field generator.
    • Low Kinetic Protection (Reinforced Ray Shielding): While reinforcing ray shielding makes the Buckler more resilient against laser cannons and other similar weapons, the energy diverted the anti-concussion field generators makes it weaker against kinetic weapons like slugthrowers and missiles.
  • DESCRIPTION
Lucerne Labs has made use of a wide variety of shield types for its smaller craft over the years, from PulseScreen Quick-Recharge in its small interceptors to more powerful HU-OCs in its larger transports and gunships. Yet the company had trouble finding a satisfactory existing technology that worked well in its medium-sized superiority starfighters - wanting something that had more versatility than the average shield generator. To that end, the company slowly worked on developing their own small craft shield generator which eventually turned into the Buckler-class Shield Generator. The Buckler is somewhat unusual from many smaller craft systems in that it uses anticoncussion field generators instead of particle shields. Combined with oversized power flow components and algorithmic shield settings, the Buckler provides the versatility that Lucerne Labs has been searching for the last few years.
