STRENGTHS
  • Transformers, More Than Meets The Eye - this iteration of the StarViper is designed to take advantage of all the aspects of the StarViper of old: speed, resilience, power, and deftness. Like its predecessor, the StarViper is able to fold its wings down to collapse on itself, making the starfighter very small indeed--and perfect for a carrier-based fighter. It can quickly launch from all varieties of capital ships and rapidly extend its wings, ready for combat. This means multiple StarViper IIs can be launched simultaneously at a lightning fast rate.
WEAKNESSES
  • Is That Thing Loose Again?- with the advanced technology that went into retracting and extending the wing assemblies, each starfighter requires a great deal of maintenance. While most all the systems on the StarViper II are quite dependable, the wing assemblies are definitely the parts that require the most repair and preventive maintenance.

Black Sun can be a bit nostalgic at times. The Black Sun of centuries past had great success with the MandalMotors StarViper. But as time as passed, those ships are no longer made for Black Sun. The criminal underworld underlords requested an updated version of the highly successful StarViper and commissioned Interstellar Shipping Technologies with the task. Capitalizing on the versatility of the IST-100 Muti-role Escort Fighter, the ship engineers went to work on the new and improved Black Sun Ship (BSS) StarViper II. In order to not step on the toes of MandalMotors, Black Sun was able to acquire the property rights of their own version of the StarViper, which Black Sun has now used the blueprints to manufacture the StarViper II. This is the main starfighter of the Black Sun's fighter squadrons, which does not include a hyperdrive. However, many Black Sun owners of this ship make significant modifications to these models, including the installation of a hyperdrive. This ship is available to all members of Black Sun.

Hey, [member="Mithias"]!

Good to see you developing Black Sun resources, the StarViper is always fun. That said, I wanted to review your submission and run a few things past you that we need to consider and look at:

1. Squadon count: Currently you have it set to none (1), which means that any vessel you place this particular fighter onto will have a singular fighter considered as a 'squadron'.

For example: If you create a 500m Frigate, with an Extreme hangar bay (7x squadron capacity), you will only have 7 individual fighters on that craft. Whereas an X-Wing with an Average (12) squadron count, by comparison, would have 84 fighters as support.

I'm not sure if this is intentional, but I thought I should point it out just in case, as the description seems to indicate this StarViper II model will serve as the primary fighter squadrons of the Black Sun. If you want to have higher squadron numbers, you should consider adjusting some stats and adding more squadon numbers.

2. Molecular Shielding: Currently the molecular shield is a little powerful for a Moderate defense rating, due to the capacity for absorbing energy and being invulnerable to a range of weapons, including:

"It could also absorb other energy weapon fire, such as ion cannons, turbolasers, and energy torpedoes." [x]

"It was invulnerable to all short-range energy weapons, including artillery-grade guns." [x]

If you want to keep the molecular shield, you can, that's not an issue. But I highly recommend the defense rating is increased to Very High (at least).

3. Strengths & Weaknesses: I would consider adjusting your lists here, for example I would recommend adding the molecular shield as a strength, as it is quite powerful.

Also, possible weaknesses to balance could include:

- Delicate Construction: The fighters wings are finely crafted and narrow, making them a weaker point on the vessel than the larger cockpit and engine regions.
- Small Numbers: Due to the more specialized fighter components, squadron counts are significantly lower than other more standard fighters.
- Limited Visibility: The forward-facing cokckpit limits pilot peripheral view, causing a higher reliance on sensor systems and offering potential blind-spots for enemies.

Just some to consider, at any rate.

I think with some tinkering we can get this to where you want it to be. Some other options for avoiding heavy losses to other stats you prefer could include removing hyperdrives, and using those to increase Defense or Squadron Count (leaving the fighters reliant on transport vessels, but also adding another weakness due to that reliance). You might also consider lowering the armament, which is quite slim as is, to Low for another stat to put toward squadron count or defense, etc.

Looking forward to working with you on this sub.

Hey [member="Thorne"] ! Thanks for the review! You know your ships, so I will bow to your insight. I was an idiot when it came to squadron size in starfighters - now I am good. Here is what I did:

- Removed Molecular Shielding - moved Defense rating to Average
- Lowered Armament rating to Low
- Increased Squadron Size to Moderate (16)
- Removed the Hyperdrive altogether (added in description that often members of Black Sun will modify their StarVipers with hyperdrives, but the base ship will be without them)

Thanks again.
