OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create an engine for ships corvette sized and larger for use by Breshig War Forge Consolidated, Strill Securities and select others.
  • Canon Link: N/A.
  • Permissions: N/A.
  • Primary Source: 'Sarutaya' Engine.
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Manufacturer: Breshig War Forge Consolidated.
  • Affiliation: Breshig War Forge Consolidated and Strill Securities.
  • Market Status: Closed-Market.
  • Model: 'Ori'sarutaya' Engine.
  • Modularity: Engines can be installed into any ship of corvette tonnage and heavier. The engine cane be scaled up and down for use in varying configurations on a varying craft tonnages.
  • Production: Minor.
  • Material: Duranium (frame, some internal parts), Agrinium mesh, Dallorian alloy, Duravlex, Condensed-matter composite, Durinium (outside of the vectrals), electronics, heat sink(s), dual stream thruster component, scramjet booster, atmospheric thruster, fuel converter (scoop), SLAM, IR Suppressor, vectral(s), thrust trace dampener, repulsorlift(s), and combat de-ionizer.
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Advanced Engine Functions:
    • Deployable Hyperspace Beacon: A deployable hyperspace beacon allows friendly ships to jump directly to the deploying vessels location, making this particular feature a true asset to fleet scouts and pathfinders. The number of beacons varies depending on ship tonnage, though all engines irrespective of tonnage will always have room for one.
    • Tensor-based Wide Area Speed Boost: Carrier ships in particular benefit from this feature, allowing them to boost the speed of their squadrons to allow them to get into the action even faster. This only serves to augment the capabilities of carriers equipped with pressor catapults like those manufactured by the company.
    • Power to Shields: Power diverted to engines becomes a quaternary concern in a close quarters firefight. The Ori'sarutaya allows this extra power to be quickly and easily diverted to a ship's shield generators.
    • 'Interdiction' Field: The 'interdiction' field generated, even though for a short period of time, adds to the tactical toolbox of a starship captain, especially when dealing with faster, more agile vessels.
  • Tibanna-X: The engine can burn Tibanna-X to further reduce the craft's visibility on sensors.
  • Advanced Diagnostic Systems: The engine is equipped with advanced diagnostic suites that monitor its various systems for malfunction, and are able to diagnose the underlying issue with relative ease.
STRENGTHS
  • Low-profile: The very small sensor profile of the Ori'sarutaya's driver signature makes the craft very difficult to detect at longer ranges on that basis alone. This is due to its IR suppressor and its use of vectrals and a thrust trace dampener. Additionally, capital ship missiles attempting to lock onto a craft using the Ori'sarutaya as its engines will have a more difficult time attempting to lock onto the drive signature.
  • Versatile: The Ori'sarutaya's negates the need for a separate repulsor engine whilst integrating a scramjet booster, SLAM, low sensor profile features, and a variety of advanced engine functions into one engine.
  • Powerful and Efficient: The Ori'sarutyaya is an extremely powerful engine system, capable of propelling the craft it is mounted on to great sublight and atmospheric speeds, and with a dual stream thruster component and integrated fuel scoop, it is efficient in addition.
  • Thrust Vectored: The vectrals allow for better maneuverability than most 'standard' Hoersch-Kessel drive based designs, though they need to be backed up by appropriately powerful maneuvering thrusters for the benefits to truly be taken advantage of.
WEAKNESSES
  • Purpose Built: Fitting the engine into craft that aren't purpose built with these engines in mind is incredibly difficult given the number of systems that need to be correctly integrated into the craft's control systems.
  • Design Dependant: While powerful, the Ori'sarutaya does not always necessitate a higher than average speed for tonnage, or even guarantee and average speed. It cannot offset vast quantities of heavy armor plate, a large number of heavy weapon systems, a combination of the above or lazy design.
  • Internal: The Ori'sarutaya was designed to be mounted internally, and external mounting will expose the many fragile, sensitive components of the engine.
  • Low Sensor Profile, not Cloak: While difficult to detect on scanners, the Ori'sarutaya does nothing to add to the stealthiness of the rest of the craft it is mounted on.
DESCRIPTION
The Ori'sarutaya started life as a scaled up version of the company's successful Sarutaya engine but over the course of its development cycle featured the inclusion of a number of advanced features that took it from a powerful, low profile, efficient, maneuverable engine to a true utility in the hands of any starship captain. These features include a deployable hyperspace beacon, a tensor-based wide area speed boost, the ability to transfer engine power to shields and an 'interdiction' system that slows down hostile ships for a short period of time around the host vessel.
Unlike a lot of Hoersch-Kessel drive based designs, the Ori'sarutaya like the smaller Sarutaya makes use of an IR suppressed, thrust trace dampened vectral , allowing for precise three dimensional thrust vectoring whilst also maintaining a low sensor profile drive signature. Appropriately powerful maneuvering thrusters are required to fully take advantage of the benefits of the thrust vectoring feature. The Ori'sarutaya's inclusion of a dual stream thruster component and an integrated fuel scoop allow the engine to remain both powerful and efficient, whilst remaining versatile with the inclusion of a scramjet booster, atmospheric thruster, repulsorlift drive(s) and a SLAM.
However, while being a scaled up version of the Sarutaya grants it all the smaller engine's benefits, it also grants it its flaws. The Ori'sarutaya is difficult to fit into existing designs given the vast number of subsystems that must be integrated into the craft's control systems. While powerful, the Ori'sarutaya does not always necessitate a higher than average speed for tonnage, or even guarantee and average speed. It cannot offset vast quantities of heavy armor plate, a large number of heavy weapon systems, a combination of the above or lazy design. Finally, the Ori'sarutaya was designed to be mounted internally, and external mounting will expose the many fragile, sensitive components of the engine.
