OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create a rotary, electrothermal mass-driver for use by Breshig War Forge Consolidated, Strill Securities and select others.
  • Canon Link: N/A.
  • Permissions: N/A.
  • Primary Source: RHM-04 Repeating Heavy Mass-driver, Mass-driver.
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Starfighter/Vehicle-grade Electrothermal Mass-driver.
  • Size: Large.
  • Weight: Very Heavy.
  • Ammunition Type: 30x165mm slugs.
  • Ammunition Capacity: Average. 1000 rounds and liquid propellant for the same number of rounds.
  • Effective Range: Long Range.
  • Rate of Fire: Very High.
  • Damage Output: Very High.
  • Recoil: High.
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Variety of Ammunition: Breshig War Forge Consolidated produces a variety of ammunition for the weapon:
    • AP: Armor-piercing rounds with a depleted baradium core designed to act as a penetrator upon impact with armor.
    • API: Depleted baradium armor-piercing tip with an incendiary plasma component.
    • APFSDS: Depleted baradium sabot, designed to penetrate heavy armor.
    • High Explosive Incendiary Armor Piercing: Using a deuterium based explosive to trigger a blaster gas incendiary charge before driving a depleted baradium penetrator into the target.
    • HE: Baradium detonator rounds designed to explode on contact with a hard surface.
    • Ion: Extremely powerful ion detonator round, designed to severely damage shields and other systems.
    • Trihex-AP: Depleted baradium armor-piercing tip with a trihex capsule and micro-detonite charge.
  • Cooling Systems: In order to prevent the large amounts of heat generated by the weapon from melting it, the RHM-02E has an integrated cooling system that will shut the weapon down in the event of it overheating in order to perform a coolant flush and to allow the weapon to cool down. Each weapon has enough coolant to perform five coolant flushes, but can be connected to a larger coolant reservoir.
  • Diagnostics and Analytics Suite: The weapon's in-built diagnostics and analysis suite keeps the crew apprised of everything from ammunition count to accelerator coil integrity and effectiveness.
STRENGTHS
  • Accurate: Provided it is paired with the right sensor and fire control systems, a capable operator could make great use of the RHM-02E's inherent accuracy out to its furthest range increment.
  • Extremely High Damage Potential: The RHM-02E has an extremely high damage potential given its high rate of fire, mass and velocity of its round and range.
  • Armor-piercing: The RHM-02E has a high potential to penetrate armor given the velocity and mass of its
  • round as well as its high rate of fire.
  • Fast Projectile Velocity: The 30x165mm rounds fired by the RHM-02E reach an extremely high velocity, making avoiding them a difficult prospect, especially for targets with a notably low maneuverability and speed.
  • Resilient: The weapon itself is partially exposed, and as a result the company made efforts to protect it against all manner of damage that it might be exposed to on the battlefield.
  • Versatile: The RHM-02E is an extremely versatile weapons system, able to take on a variety of differently defended targets with a wide variety of projectiles that it can fire.
WEAKNESSES
  • Large and Very Heavy: The weapon's size and weight makes mounting it on wing mounts and the like difficult and additionally weighs down and hence reduces the tracking speed of any gimbal or turret that it is mounted in proportionately.
  • Feed Damage: Should the weapon's feed become damaged, the weapon will be unable to fire any rounds that precede the point of damage.
  • Ammunition Dependent: Once out of ammunition, which given the weapon's high fire rate is not difficult to do in a pitched engagement, the weapon is entirely useless.
  • EMP/Ion: If the launcher actually sustains enough EMP/Ion damage, its electronic arc igniter will be disabled, requiring it to be replaced before the weapon can fire again.
  • Rotating Barrels: Should the weapon's rotary barrel mechanism become damaged, the weapon will become unable to fire.
  • Cooling System Malfunction: Should the cooling system malfunction or become damaged, the weapon will shut down to prevent a critical operating failure.
  • Sensor Suite: In order to make use of the RHM-02E's inherent range and accuracy, the mounting platform must have a powerful, high resolution, long ranged sensor suite.
DESCRIPTION
"Peace through superior firepower."
- Breshig War Forge Consolidated marketing slogan aimed at export customers.

The RHM-02E is a powerful rotary electrothermally driven mass-driver used notably as the main weapon on the company's Ra'gar-class Fighter used by Strill Securities and marketed toward export customers. The weapon has been used by the company on many other projects and even a few custom commissions since, and though the new downscaled accelerator cannons are threatening to push them into obsolescence, it is unlikely that this will ever really happen.
Contrary to what many believe about rotary weapons, they are not necessarily inaccurate, and the RHM-02E is no exception to this. With even a decent sensor and fire control suite, a capable operator could easily leverage the weapon's accuracy to deadly effect. The 30x165mm rounds fired by the weapon reach an extremely high velocity, making avoiding them a difficult prospect, which only further increases the weapon's potential lethality when considered alongside its notable accuracy. The RHM-02E's rounds have a high chance to penetrate armor given the velocity and mass of its round as well as its high rate of fire, which is especially notable when considered alongside the weapon's other notable virtues.
The RHM-02E owes its high fire rate to its rotary barrel system. Should this system be rendered non-functional, the weapon will be unable to fire. The cooling system too is critical to the weapon's operation, and a critical overheat could destroy the gun and cook off the propellant fluid. As such, should the cooling system become rendered inoperable by damage or malfunction, the weapon will shut down. Additionally, should the weapon's feed link become damaged, any rounds that precede the point of damage will be unable to be fired, and the RHM-02E is entirely useless without rounds to fire. For these reasons, the built to be resistant to all manner of sources of damage that it might face in the course of battlefield service.
