OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create hydroponics facilities for ships and facilities for use by Breshig War Forge Consolidated, Strill Securities and select others.
  • Canon Link: Hydroponics.
  • Permissions: N/A.
  • Primary Source: Hydroponics, Hydroponics Vat, Aquaponics.
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Heuristically Learning Droid Brain Controlled Environment: The entire environment is controlled by a heuristically learning droid brain programmed with various aquaponics management routines and equipped with a number of specialized agricultural sensors with which to monitor both the environment of the hydroponics vats and the aquariums.
    • Hydroponic Vat(s): The hydroponics vats can be used to grow a number of different plants, and is really down to the crew's choice. The plants can either be automatically collected and stored by the system
    • Aquarium: The nutrient solution for the vats is derived from waste generated by the inhabitants of a self-sustaining aquatic ecosystem.
  • 'Iu'yaniyasa Gar'birgaan' Automated Cargo Management System Compatibility: The system is fully compatible with the company's automated cargo management system, allowing for nutrient slurry, seeds and plants, fruits, grain and so on to be shuttled to and from the aquaponics facility.
  • Optional Mandalorian Endemic Plant Module: This module is specifically catered to growing certain Mandalorian plants that are listed, though not exhaustively below. This is usually reserved for internal use or for Mandalorian customers, though conservationists have in recent times taken to requesting its addition due to Mandalore's state.
STRENGTHS
  • Self-sufficient: The aquaponics facility once setup and functioning is entirely self-sufficient and requires no additional material.
  • Expertise Not Required: The droid brain can manage the system without any input from the crew once the system is setup, and in times that it might require assistance, it can direct a crewmember to do so.
  • Built Tough: The aquaponics facility is built to function in combat conditions, and is designed such that it will not be a liability to whatever
WEAKNESSES
  • Some Manual Interference Required: Even in strictly controlled environments, nature still has a habit of acting out, wherein some level of expertise with aquaponics facilities might be required.
  • Biological Contagions: The aquaponics facility itself has no protection against biological contagions and most contagions will quickly spread through a highly controlled environment such as this.
  • Sabotage: While an unnecessarily elaborate way to kill the crew of a ship, station or facility, poisoning the aquaponics facility with some manner of nigh-on undetectable poison is still technically possible.
DESCRIPTION
"The aquaponics feed the stills, breweries and tapcaf with the necessary Mandalorian ingredients to keep them functioning."
- Strill Securities Fleet Admiral Nyles Kote addressing the need for an aquaponics facility.

The Ka'ra'vhetin was developed to alleviate the constant need for resupply of company and clan warships by returning to Breshig for produce that could only really grew and was regularly harvested in meaningful amounts in the Mandalorian sector. Laughing at the meer prospect of having a dedicated farmer on board vessels, and not wanting the hassle of environmental units, irrigation systems and the like on board a warship, the company knew that they had to develop an intelligent solution. Given the recent trend of droid brain governed systems, and the already widespread use of droids, the decision was reached to use a droid controlled and monitored self-sufficient hydroponic system. This was changed to an aquaponic system when the subject of the nutrient slurry was brought up.
Despite the fact that such a system would be completely vulnerable to biological contaigions and additionally represented an extraneously complicated sabotage avenue, the company went ahead with the project, adding an additional function that allowed the droid brain to instruct the crew in assisting it if anything didn't quite go as planned, as frequently is the case whenever nature is involved. This ended up saving Strill Securities immensely on costs, and as an added benefit was an additional form of relieving stress and cabin fever as frequently develops on long voyages. This also ended up being incredibly beneficial following the ba'slan shev'la following the attack on the Mandalore sector, as access to produce found in the Mandalore sector all but dried up.
