OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create a modular salvage/repair/maintenance/production system for starships, installations and stations for use by Breshig War Forge Consolidated, Strill Securities and select others.
  • Canon Link: N/A.
  • Permissions: N/A.
  • Primary Source: Molecular Furnace and Laser Lathe.
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Modules:
    • Salvage:
      • 'Shereshir' Heavy Long-range Tractor/Pressor Beam array: Debris and other materials are drawn in by the tractor beam into the salvage bay by the tractor beam array.
      • Processing: Debris is then sorted, with organic waste being sent to waste disposal and inorganic waste being cut and compressed before being sent off to another module's molecular furnace.
      • Blast Door(s) w/ Magnetic Field: The entrance to the salvage bay consists of a blast door and magnetic field, preventing depressurization.
    • Repair/Support Foundry: The repair/support foundry is designed to produce components to enable it's mounting platform to be more self-sufficient be reducing reliance on shipments of articles such as spare parts and ammunition.
      • Molecular Furnace(s) fed Plasma Forge(s): A molecular furnace fed plasma force allows material stores and salvaged materials to be easily used in manufacturing.
      • Laser and Fusion Lathes(s): A laser and fusion lathe aid in the production and maintenance of parts and equipment.
      • Garment-fabricator(s): The foundry includes a garment-fabricator to aid in the replacement and production of uniforms and undersuits for the crew and passengers.
      • Spare Parts Manufacturing: The smallest size of automated foundry can churn out all manner of spare parts for everything from the freshers to the ship's main reactor.
      • Armor and Small Arms Parts Manufacturing: Both a traditional forge and more advanced maintenance and parts manufacturing equipment.
      • Ammunition Manufacturing: The foundry's most used purpose is to replenish the ship's ammunition supplies, and most ships will carry spare material stores to make fresh ammunition.
      • 'Iu'yaniyasa Gar'birgaan' Automated Cargo Management System (or similar) integration: Integration with an automated cargo management system allows the system to automatically move materials and finished products to and from stores.
    • Automated Factory: Manually supervised automated factories scaled to fit their mounting platform can be configured to produce just about anything relative to the size of the factory itself with the right materials from the salvage module, from small arms up to vehicles, starfighters, emplacemed weapons and equipment and even prefabricated structure components. Spare parts and ammunition can also be produced here if so desired.
STRENGTHS
  • Salvage: The automated foundry allows ships/stations to conduct salvage operations to stretch their supply stores or replenish it. For ground-side installations, owing to the fact that they are immobile, salvage/materials will have to be brought to the facility.
  • Waste Management: Inorganic waste can be processed by the foundry's molecular furnace into more useful material.
  • Endurance: The automated foundry module is capable of manufacturing everything from ammunition to spare parts and armor. This greatly increases a ship/station/installation's endurance.
  • Manufacturing: The factory module allows ships/stations/installations to produce anything to replace losses provided that they have the requisite materials, further reducing their reliance on supply lines/resupply.
WEAKNESSES
  • Way In: The bay doors through which salvage can be tractor beamed in is a potential way in for those looking to make entry into the ship.
  • Materials: While the ability to perform limited battlefield salvage can make material stores last far longer, they are usually not enough to provide for the ship's needs on their own.
  • Size: Only ships corvette and larger or dedicated salvage ships of a smaller size can fit any combination of these modules. The factory module is usually only ever mounted on frigate and larger vessels or specialized corvettes.
  • EMP/Ion: The sheer array of equipment used are all vulnerable to EMP/Ion damage if attacked directly, as by boarding parties for example. In such an event, significant repairs will become necessary.
DESCRIPTION
Resupply and logistics are arguably the most problematic aspect of fielding a fleet, and as such, one of the problems facing Breshig War Forge Consolidated and Strill Securities was that of resupply. To solve the problem, Breshig War Forge Consolidated developed the automated modular foundry. The purpose of the foundry is to be able to provide a ship with the means to sustain itself when far from friendly resupply, rather than eliminate the need for resupply altogether, thus increasing the endurance of not only the ship it's mounted on but the fleet that ship is attached to.
To tackle this problem, the Iu'yaniyasa Ga'napr features three modular subsystems. One of these is it's salvage module, which allows ships to perform battlefield salvage to extend onboard material stores. The second is the repair/support foundry which is capable of manufacturing everything from ammunition to spare parts and armor. This greatly increases a ship/station/installation's endurance. Thirdly, and finally, the factory module allows ships/stations/installations to produce anything to replace losses provided that they have the requisite materials, further reducing their reliance on supply lines/resupply. This also allows the recycling of craft/vehicles too badly damaged to be repaired, allowing a ship or station to replenish their complements without resupply.
While the ability to perform limited battlefield salvage can make material stores last far longer, they are usually not enough to provide for the ship's needs on their own. Additionally, only ships corvette and larger or dedicated salvage ships of a smaller size can fit any combination of these modules. The factory module is usually only ever mounted on frigate and larger vessels or specialized corvettes. The module also presents security risks. For example, the bay doors through which salvage can be tractor beamed in is a potential way in for those looking to make entry into the ship. Once said infiltrators have made entry, the sheer array of equipment used are all vulnerable to EMP/Ion damage. In such an event, significant repairs will become necessary to use said equipment once more.
