STANDARD FEATURES
ADVANCED SYSTEMS
STRENGTHS
  • Well Defended: With an in-built deflector shield generator combined with reinforced duraplast armor and a duranium hull and frame, the Cuyan really does live up to its name. It's more than well protected enough to make it through debris fields and can even take some fire from pursuing fighters while the crew effects their escape.
  • Reusable: The Cuyan is built to take more than a few planetary landings, and can be reused, meaning that the escapees aren't stranded on the first planet they decide to land on.
  • Let's Get The Haran Out Of Here: Fast and maneuverable, the Cuyan is built to get away from whatever ship launched it and with any luck evade pursuing fighters.
WEAKNESSES
  • Limited Navicomputer: As a cost cutting measure, the Cuyan's navicomputer only has a five jump memory. Options of where to run to are indeed limited.
  • Limited Jump Range: If the limited Navicomputer wasn't problematic enough, the Cuyan's Hyperdrive has a limited jump range, furthermore restricting where the Lifeboat can feasibly escape to.
  • It's A Lifeboat: Naturally, being a Lifeboat, it isn't intended for combat, and ramming enemy fighters is extremely discouraged and most certainly voids the warranty on the Lifeboat. Of course, being a Lifeboat, it is more than likely to end up in combat.
DESCRIPTION
Given the unenviable task of designing a Lifeboat to reduce then Breshig Hypernautics reliance on other companies, the R&D team assigned to the project begrudgingly got to work. Several fruitless hours later, however, and one of them had the fantastic idea of basing their design off of the Ori'beskaryc pod in service with several clans. Of course, realizing that they didn't have the technical schematics, the unfortunate souls realized that they weren't going to be able to find an easy way out of their task and got to work replicating the capabilities of the source of their inspiration. The fruit of their efforts was the Cuyan, which wasn't particularly remarkable given that many other Lifeboats had similar capabilities, but nonetheless was cost effective and got the job done.

The defining idea behind the Cuyan was that it should be able to outrun both the potential exploding starship it escaped from as well as whatever blew it up. That it does quite well, boasting high maneuverability and speed for a starfighter sized space-faring object, and remains quite tough. Redundant inertial compensator and repulsor systems and a tough hull allow it to survive multiple planetary landings. A single use individual field disruptor allows the reckless or the desperate to pass through shielding on a capital ship or a planet with the requisite turbulence. To that effect, along with the reinforced duraplast, a cap drain and combat de-ionizer system prevent it from instantly being disabled by overeager starfighter pilots intending to bring back pilots in hopes for a promotion, a medal or simply a frustrated commanding officer. Whichever comes first. The Cuyan seats about ten passengers, and requires a single pilot. It has air and water recyclers that can support all of them, and stores enough multipacks and crash survival kits for all crew and passengers.

Naturally, it's not all good news, costs had to be cut somewhere on a mass produced craft that was at the end of the day, a Lifeboat. So naturally, the first things that were made cheaper were the navicomputer and hyperdrive, the limited five jump memory of the former and the limited range of the latter really cutting down the number of options one has by a noticeable amount. That said, it is indeed just a lifeboat, and so the device is continued to be sold and used by Breshig War Forge Consolidated, who even includes a escape pod adaptor to allow the Cuyan to fit onto mountings not originally designed for it.
