SPECIAL FEATURES
- Sensors:
- Weather scanning Doppler Sensor Array
- Barometer
- Humidity Sensor
- Temperature Sensor
- Computer(s):
- Protective Shields:
- Rad-dampening Shield Projector(s) (activated only when
- Hydrostatic Field Projector(s)
- Atmospheric Shield Projector(s) (emergency measure, deployed only till breach is sealed)
- Storm-barrier Generator(s)
- Other Systems (can be togged on and off individually):
STRENGTHS
- Weather Monitor: The system monitors the weather and atmospheric conditions and then activates the appropriate sub-component.
- De-icing: The system can de-ice a hull or the exterior of a base or station under the harshest of conditions. On its highest setting, which requires manual activation, the system can even heat up the exterior of whatever ship or installation it is mounted on that it can kill a variety of pests, from small insects to large rodents.
- Storms: The inbuilt storm barrier combined with the hydrostatic field protects against a variety of threats including but not limited to storms, sandstorms and even acid rain.
- Sand and Other Debris: The storm barrier and the electrostatic repellor keep sand storms and acid rain from affecting the vehicle, starship or installation to a large degree.
- Animals: The Excluder system can keep animals away from a landed or operating aircraft, which is particularly useful on hostile worlds with dangerous predators.
WEAKNESSES
- High Winds: The system has no protection against high winds and the problems that are associated with it. Crews must take other appropriate measures,
- Lightning, Hail, etc: While it can predict when weather is about to include lightning, hail and the like, the system provides no protection against the aforementioned.
- Extremely Limited Combat Uses: With the exception of radiation based weaponry, and for whatever bizarre reason, water based weapons, the system has no combat functions.
- Atmospheric Interference: While the system can learn to better diagnose weather conditions and other hazards, heavy atmospheric interference can lead to the system making an incorrect assessment and activating the wrong subsystem.
- Power Supply: The system has no integrated power supply and requires a constant supply of power to function.
- De-icing System: Having the de-icing system run on its highest setting for prolonged periods of time can damage coatings and sensitive systems.
DESCRIPTION
"You were content to buy the shabla freshers, but you drew the line at the environmental protection systems?"
"Six hours for an airmobile ground force isn't exactly ideal, Nyles. Besides, we do need a new system for installations too."
"tired sigh...wayii."

Designed by Breshig War Forge Consolidated to replace the collection of components strung together to attempt to alleviate weather and hazardous environment related issues, the Buurenaar'aran or 'storm shield' in basic is an extremely advanced heuristically learning system capable of detecting and adjusting for a variety of weather and hazardous conditions. The system can be scaled up or down for use on a variety of vehicles, starships and installations, but all variants are functionally identical. All variants, however, lack their own integrated power supply and require to be connected to the power supply of the vehicle, starship or installation they're installed on.
The system functions by using a doppler sensor array, barometer, as well as a humidity and temperature sensor to gather data on the conditions outside of the platform that it is installed in. The data is then analyzed by the specialized heuristically learning droid brain installed in the system by way of a number of specialist algorithms, and then the appropriate subsystem is activated. The various subcomponents can be activated individually. Significant atmospheric interference can lead to an incorrect assessment, and as a result, the wrong subcomponent being activated.
The system can de-ice a hull or the exterior of a base or station under the harshest of conditions. On its highest setting, which requires manual activation, the system can even heat up the exterior of whatever ship or installation it is mounted on that it can kill a variety of pests, from small insects to large rodents. Having the system run on this setting for prolonged periods can damage coatings and sensitive systems and is generally problematic for longevity of the de-icing system.
The inbuilt storm barrier combined with the hydrostatic field protects against a variety of threats including but not limited to storms and even acid rain. With the aid of the electrostatic impeller, the storm barrier can also deal with build up of sand and other similar substances and debris, preventing it from becoming a problem for whatever vehicle, ship or installation the system is installed on. That said, it cannot handle weather phenomenon such as lightning, hail, extremely high winds and the like.
Overall, the system is an incredibly useful utility for starship and installation alike, and sees widespread use on most of the company's products.
