I'm Sorry Dave

"How the feth did they make semi-functional blasters in a garage using scrap and duct tape?"

- The BR-4 is exceedingly simple to operate - so easy, in fact, that children and technically-illiterate alien primitives alike should be able to pull it off with minimal difficulty, assuming they can handle the recoil. Not that the Globex Corporation in any way shape or form endorses such use.
- The BR-4 is insanely, almost absurdly cheap. It can be cheaply mass-produced in the millions or made in a garage on Denon by a gang.
- Legitimate versions feature DRM that requires a small per-rifle fee (ten credits). Cracked versions are... somewhat wonky.
- Functional: The BR-4 is beyond cheap, packs a punch, requires minimal maintenance, and works just about anywhere including underwater.
- Simplistic: So-so accuracy, higher-than-average recoil, and a lack of advanced functions prevent the BR-4 from being a realistic contender for the attention of more advanced militaries. Did I mention how cheap it is, though? Those conscripts don't need perfection, right?
Generally considered a mediocre weapon under optimal circumstances, the BR-4 truly shines when things are going poorly. A sandstorm may well jam the fancy rifles wielded by those stormtroopers, but the BR-4 will keep firing. Those militiamen may be undisciplined and mechanically-inept, but the BR-4 will keep firing almost no matter how much they mistreat it during maintenance - and so long as they know which end shoots, they may hit.
As it turns out, the difference between a painstakingly-calibrated elite blaster rifle and a dirt-cheap BR-4 is negligible in the hands of the untrained.
