Strengths & Weaknesses
Aspect of the Boar: Old and grizzled even by Valkyri standards, he is the embodiment of stubbornness and perseverance against all odds.
Old & Wise: Though no longer the warrior he was in his youth, his wisdom and experience in statecraft and battle tactics are not to underestimate.
Seemingly Carefree: Attempts to maintain a free-spirited outlook on life in spite of past tragedies, though perhaps not as well as he likes to think.

A Century of Battle: Not many Valkyri live to reach his age, and for good reason as his fighting skills have begun to fade with the weariness of old age.

A Heavy Heart: Once the head of his house and set on marrying his childhood sweetheart, he's regularly tortured by her untimely death.
Living in Exile: Banned from visiting his homeland due to a feud with his brother, he has since found a new home for himself in the North and knows their customs well.
Illiterate: As part of the old breed, Bors has never bothered learning how to read or write in the common tongue, preferring the ancient native language of his people.

A Brief Introduction

"Old Grey-Boar". That was what they used to call him, and rarely are names and titles so fitting to the kind of person wearing them. I didn't know him very well personally, having only shared a few words with him over the years, but he served Lord Théodred of Northmark well for many years until old age finally caught up with him. When my brother was made Protector of the North following the Great Ruinous Invasion, he was a relative unknown to the Northeners. While I'm sure our father's name was mentioned fondly, Théodred in those days had only just begun making a name for himself. It's well-established that people in the Northmark place loyalty above all else, and once an oath is sworn they follow it through to the bitter end. Earning that loyalty however, is not an easy task.

In the century preceeding me and my father's initial arrival on Midvinter, Bors was born to the Lord and Lady of House Greythorne - a small but proud clan of the Eastmark, as old as the Valkyri themselves. Their sigil is the copper boar upon an earthy field, symbolising their connection to the land itself and their incredible stubbornness and perseverence in the face of danger. As is the case with most clans of the east their chief trade lies in mining and metalwork, though nowhere near the scope of the larger houses. Bors was always expected to succeed his father upon his death, though none would have thought it would happen so early in life when Lord Greythorne was killed - ironically - while out hunting wild boars. Following through with his father's wishes, Bors became the next lord at age 19.

Growing up alongside Bors was his childhood sweetheart, Freida Lindesfarn. She was a common girl of little social standing, but he loved her dearly regardless. His father had always disapproved of her as a worthy match, but with his father now dead he did not hesitate to ask her for her hand in marriage. Yet their happiness would not last, for no sooner had they gotten betrothed than did someone else impede on their being together. That someone was Beorlund the Bold, who would go on to become known as the Usurper.

Another who grew up alongside Bors, was none other than the young Prince Thrand of House Dawnbringer. As part of his preparations to become the next High King, my grandfather spent long years on tour throughout the realm to get to know his would-be subjects. The two met when they were young boys and would play and fight together whenever given the chance, becoming fast friends for life. During the many long periods of time separated, they would write one another in a secret language they'd made up. Many years later, Bors learned of his closest friend's exile at the hands of the Usurper, Beorlund. Immensely outraged by his actions, he rode for the capital of Tháinbroek demanding an explanation from the recently self-crowned king. He was apprehended for speaking against his betters and was subsequently stripped of his lands and titles, forbidden to ever return home.

What's worse was that Beorlund had also taken Freida Lindesfarn as his young wife, much against her own wishes. She was never to become his wife, being a "mere common girl", but rather his concubine and plaything. She wrote to her betrothed one last time, informing him of her dire decision from which there would be no return. The following morning she was found dead within her quarters, having taken the same poison Beorlund himself had used against the rightful king's reigning father to hasten his passing. Bors was devastated, but was given a token of her love in the form of her engagement ring delivered alongside her final letter, and ever since carried it with him. He would never return to the east, but he would be granted vengeance upon Beorlund, the man who had taken everything from him.

Bors settled in the harsh lands of the north, finding some semblance of peace far removed from the schemes and politicking of lords and kings, doing what he does best: persevering. Many decades later rumours began to erupt speaking of the return of the last Dawnbringer; "Grey-Wolf" they called him, set on reclaiming that which was lost so long ago. Mere days later, in his doorway stood none other than his oldest friend, greatsword at his side and outstretched arm. Bors unquestionably pledged himself to Thrand, and so became known as "Grey-Boar". Together the Wolf and Boar rallied countless clans to their cause to overthrow the Usurper and fought many skirmishes against his forces, until one fateful day when the rebellion marched on the capital.

And the rest, as they say, is history.
