Alexis Braend
Rough Rider
The street was silent. Shadows enveloped nearly every street corner, gradually deepening as time passed, each second marked by another death of the sun’s pale rays. Sounds of revelry spilled into the gloom as a man stumbled from one of the buildings, the noise briefly piercing the silence of the evening. Unable to stand, he collapsed against the wall behind him. His drunken snores rose into the night, signaling the sun’s final death at the claws of darkness.
Inside, light and laughter continued to prevail against sunset’s sweet, chilling song. Fringe members lined the walls of the cantina, relaxing after a long day’s efforts. Alexis leaned against the bar, flirting with the bartender. She’d discovered early on that a girl could get almost anything if she spoke sweetly enough. Sometimes suggestively. It all depended on her mood. Tonight? Tonight she was practically humming with pent up energy. Tonight she wanted to have some fun.
With that goal in mind she quickly downed the last of her drink and, grabbing another from the selection he’d presented her, she saluted the bartender and headed to the dance floor.
