  • Classification: Alcoholic Cocktail
  • Method of Consumption: Orally
  • Average Life: The drink doesn't last long, tasting as good as it does. The alcohol effects are comparable to any other similar strength drink, being removed from the body at a rate of around 8 grams per hour in an average health human adult
  • Nutritional Value/Allergies/Side Effects/ Purpose:
    • Almost no nutritional value
    • Can cause alcohol intoxication from excessive consumption.
    • Users often report a feeling of elegance whilst consuming

  • The drink has a purple black, low opacity apperance with a silky and smoky feel on the palette. The caramel from the whiskey and the bitter floral notes from both the gentians and the violette balance each other perfectly so neither is overpowering
  • The drink is typically not on the menu but every Family bartender is expected to know how to make one, if requested, taught by word of mouth.
  • There are codes associated with the ordering of a Black Oak, it is almost always ordered as a simple "Black Oak" purely for enjoyment purposes, but a bartender must be ready for the following custom orders.
    • "On the rocks" - person ordering is made or above and expects to speak to management quickly.
    • "With a twist" - person ordering it would like a private room made up
    • "With a slice" - any messages for the Family
  • To prevent someone ordering the drink just by overhearing and becoming party to information they aren't entitled to, acknowledgements are made using coded cocktail sticks, tiny burn marks on the stick hidden underneath the cherry can convey very basic messages. These include yes or know, room numbers, and requests for verification, should the bartender not recognise the customer.

  • Beautiful Drink - The appearance is stunning and the taste somehow even more so, using only high quality ingredients ensures this.
  • Communication aid - While very simple, it allows front of house staff to communicate discreetly with senior members of the Family without raising suspiscion.

  • Intoxicating - Like any alcoholic beverage this drink is intoxicating and in large amounts the person imbibing it can be rendered drunk or worse.
  • Just a drink - It has no magical powers, and it cant do anything fantastically useful, it is just a drink
  • Soft Secret - It is ordered Orally and its knowledge is handled widely by bar staff so there is a chance its secret recipe could escape the confines of any non-disclosure agreement. Additionally, the encoded sticks are just pieces of wood with hairline burn marks, they are far from the bleeding edge of encryption technology

The Black Oak is a delicious and elegant alcoholic drink crafted by Mairéad after a fun tasting session at Reveries with Marcella and Diocletian. It is a cocktail made from only the finest ingredients.

Members of the Family are aware of the drink and all bar staff are expected to know both it and the correct responses to the coded messages. Other than that it is a cocktail like any other.
