BHARATA

OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

SETTING INFORMATION

  • City Name: Bharata

  • Classification: Metropolis

  • Location: Shimiahttp://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Shimia

  • Affiliation: Confederacy of Independent Systemshttp://starwarsrp.net/groups/969-the-confederacy-of-independent-systems/

  • Demographics: 63% Pacithhip, 14% Human, 12% Duros, 11% Other

  • Wealth: Medium

Agriculture: Much of what dominates Bharatan economy is the agriculture and indeed, Bharata is the main source of food for most of the planet.

  • Lumber: Lumber is the next export from Bharata, perhaps some of the finest and most sturdy out of Shimia as a whole. Typically lumber from Bharata is made into furniture, or practice armor or weapons to be used by local military or martial arts schools.

  • Wax: Made from the local Bharatan bee hives the wax is used to form candles, art materials, cooking oils and various skin balms. This is the third major export for the city throughout most of Shimia.

  • Tourism: A fairly recent thing for the city, but an influx of tourists wishing to visit the Bharatan temples and seek enlightenment from Bharatan Monks and Masters. A surge of hotels, restaurants and retail fronts have started to take over most of the river banks and the valley in which the river curves into.

[*]
Stability: Moderate to High

  • As of late the presence of Confederate droids and troops has helped to keep crime and corruption to a minimum. Much of Bharata is peaceful, and the Pacithhip way of life is largely responsible for this and is referred to “Enlightenment.” Humans and Duros who live here are not required to follow the spiritual path but many adopt it.

[*]
Description: Bharata is a city that sits on a river delta, surrounded by rice fields as far as the eye can see and among the first buildings you see across the horizon are temples devoted to one spiritual path or another. As you look down you notice the rivers, that run through the city and watch the locals navigate with handmade boats. Inside the city, you’re quick to notice the street markets and how there seems to be an endless stream of them. Buildings look about as ancient as the temple you saw but inside are quite modern and upscale (mostly). Foot traffic is horrendous but when Bharata boasts a population of nearly eight million, it’s easy to understand why.

POINTS OF INTEREST

  • Temple of Enlightenment: Among the most notable sight seen in Bharata and perhaps all of Shimia (although sister cities would protest), the Temple was built as the ‘Way of Enlightenment’ rose during the Darkness. As this is still a predominant religion among the Pacithhip the Temple is often busy holding meditation services three times a day. The temple is open for tourists when not in service and outside of Enlightenment days of observation (closure/self seeking).

  • Mumbrakata Bazaar: The Mumbrakata is Bharata’s most famous market and one of the largests and oldests in all of the city. Boasting goods from all over Shimia and parts of the Outer Rim as well, from food, and appliances to droids and starship parts if you can’t find it at Mumbrakata chances are you won’t be able to find it anywhere else.

  • Confederacy Hall: This structure sits overlooking the Varanasi River, and is easily seen in Bharata’s most famous picture. Here members and representatives of the Confederacy are housed, and those who wish to take their complaints to the Confederacy may do so here. From Viceroyals, to Generals the Hall is was modified from an old Pacithhip barracks from their Old Republic days. Where defense cannons and holes for blaster rifles once were now are gleaming representations of the Krishna, the main polytheistic religion that many of the Pacithhip still follow today.

  • Sabha: The House, or Sabha is where the Rajas and the Elders come together to discuss legislature. Rajas are elected officials, while Elders are dynastic appointees. Elders were appointed by the Maharaja in the past, these days Elders appoint themselves. The Maharaja is also an elected official and usually sits in/presides over these discussions.

  • Nupasar District: Rapidly becoming one of Bharata’s tourism hotspot, Nupasar sits over where the Buxar and the Neghama meet. At the center of the district is a fountain, known as the Faces of Gyrmaanu where various deities have come together to oversee the district and the chief deity stands above them all swearing protection. The fountain sits just off to the side of Elephas Plaza decorated with bronzium statues that are shaped like that of the ‘ancient Pacithhip’ who used to wander on four legs with large tusks. Luxury hotels and boutiques, high end shopping and retailers have gathered here to make Nupasar a modern wonder in a city of old.

  • The Nine Faces of Gyrmaanu: A temple devoted to the nine main deities of the religion it sits opposite of the Temple of Enlightenment and holds several entrances and tunnels, all of which lead to a private room of worship. The main sanctuary is easily accessible and features a large table meant to signify the deities coming together to form Shimia.

  • Wayanga Theater: One of the ancient Maharajas founded the theater and made it so that all the gods would feel welcomed. It sits where the delta begins overlooking the many rice fields that surround the city.

  • Respatianga District: Where you’ll find a lot of the more ‘rustic’ parts of the city, or ancient rather. It is also where many farmers come to turn their produce or livestock in for credits and where many refining processes occur. Even here you’ll find the eyes or faces of Gyrmaanu watching over you, or a small alcove or two devoted to meditation for Enlightenment. Brick and cobblestone streets are common here and so are the food vendors, some of the best meals come from the vendors in this district.

  • Abreu-Bokmal: The central boat house, and it is quite busy as it sits just behind the Temple of Enlightenment. Abreu-Bokmal was founded by humans and specialize in building vessels for the Bharatan Delta, Ganapati Sea and the many rivers that come to join here. Abreu-Bokmal also owns a vast stretch of the docks that sit in front the boat house itself. There you may rent out a boat or hire a specialist to navigate it and the delta for you.

  • Kombanda Lands: Or the farmlands, surround Bharata and trails going to and from them are easily made out and still to this day you will find animal-drawn carts and carriages carrying goods. And just as easily you’ll find speeders taking goods in greater quantities for the ‘corporate’ farms further out from the Kombanda, the Kombanda are protected by the Maharaja to preserve the Bharatan way of life.

  • Chunapur District: Chunapur is the main hub of government and finance, you’ll find the Sumeli Sabha or the stock house, stock exchange where Shimian stocks, and bonds are traded. There is an annexed addition for trading throughout the Confederacy. Chunapur is where ancient ways meets the modern times, museums devoted to the past and buildings older than many of the people who walk the streets tower over them. Where speeder traffic is just as congested as the foot traffic, Chunapur is the heart of Bharata and is said to be where the Way of Enlightenment and the Gyrmaaur meet.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Bharata where the Saravasti, Varanasi, Kolkata, Junmua, Neghama, Buxar and many, many rivers find themselves at an end. Coming together to flow into the vast Ganapati Sea, the largest and perhaps most important of these is the Saravasti which trails most of the Chopra continent. The Saravasti is said have carved its way down the Allahabadi Mountains and pulled with its mighty hand the many streams and rivers to take them into the Ganapati. This from the old Pacithhip text of the Gyrmaanu, or the world - and there are still many who practice the belief of Gyrmaanu worshipping multiple deities. It is also why shrines to these deities are not hard to find, many streets contain multiple shrines allowing all to worship.

Temples to these deities line many of outer parts of the city, but none quite reaching the same height as the Temple of Enlightenment. The Pacithhip are a rather peaceful species and welcome all who come to their lands, and while worshipping as they do is not required they do ask that all species be respectful to their way. Those who are not, are now turned over to the local Confederacy magistrate to be dealt with. Which has become something of a problem, the Pacithhip have become increasingly reliant on the Confederacy.

Something that many of its non-Pacithhip leaders disagree with and have voiced their opinions over with the the Rajas and the Elders.

Before the Confederacy, the Shimian capital had gone through several of its own reforms - casting aside indentured servitude and its own caste system. While they may be gone today, many of its people are still adjusting even if the system has been gone for over forty years. It had been in place during the Darkness and it was not until the Gulag Plague that the Pacithhip and their neighbors realized just how much they had suffered for their own prejudices.

Humans and Duros are the second and third largest species in Bharata and have recently been able to achieve political status gaining their own Raja and Elder representatives. Humans first came to Shimia’s capital during the early years After the Battle of Yavin, but their population fluctuated until just after the Darkness, where wave after wave of human settlers found themselves here. Some having fled Imperial or Sith tyranny and others sought out a new life.

Duros arrived around or before the Humans, but maintained their population status having only suffered greatly during the Gulag Plague and the Netherworld.

While the official languages are Shimiese and Basic, the second fastest growing language is Durese followed by Pak Pak.

When it comes to those who are sensitive to the force, the Bharatans believe in learning to use this gift to bring balance to those around you. Bharatan Monks are the answer to this, and they take those who are willing from the age of twelve and begin to train them in this way. They believe that the dark side and the light side both have their places and the key is to understanding both and learning to bring balance and peace within yourself. Before bringing this balance and peace to others, and those who are unable to learn the way of the Bharatan Monks were sent off world to the Galactic Alliance or the Outer Rim Coalition, although now it is believed they are given to the Knights Obsidian.
