Intent: Intended as a recurring character to pop in every now and then, creating the potential to develop a connection over time rather than a more forgettable filler background NPC. Could also be used as an aid to appear in locations she otherwise wouldn't be in, by tagging along on missions/ journeys not suitable for a Padawan to undertake alone.

PHYSICAL INFORMATION

Appearance: Bal is a tall and broad-shouldered Nautolan. He is not really a "big guy", more a mix of athletic and brawny in stature, although his weight and fitness is always something he has to be mindful of. Like all Nautolans, he has fourteen sensory tentacles, also referred to as head-tresses. His skin colour is teal, with golden spots on his head-tresses. While many Nautolans decorate these in various ways, this is a tradition Bal has opted out of.
He will normally be seen in either the traditional Jedi robes or casual wear of a similar style. Occasionally he might adorn some form of armour, but fashion rates pretty low on his list of interests and priorities.

Personality:
Bal is a friendly and kind soul. Despite being a Jedi Knight and blessed with the Force, he is always humble. He never seeks to advance himself at the expense of others, nor does he require praise or thanks for the work he does. He is content in knowing he is a servant of the Force and the Light, and acts according to its will. He does have a habit of overindulging on exotic foods, and it is an area of his life where his otherwise rock solid discipline falters.
COMBAT INFORMATION
Weapon of Choice: Lightsaber
Combat Function: Combat is often a necessity of the Jedi's profession. While Bal never actively seeks it out, he is always prepared to face it. He embodies the defender in both philosophy and actions. He prefers to hang back and allow the situation to unfold before he responds to it. His focus is on keeping himself and his allies safe from harm first, and inflicting it back second. Every life taken weighs heavy on him, and he would much rather see someone disarmed or otherwise rendered incapacitated before ending someone's life. There is no redemption in death. As such, his saberform is anchored in Soresu, and his Force powers defensive minded. He is a dependable Jedi Knight, but does not outperform his level in any area.
Strengths:
- Unyielding - Bal is a defensive rock, with the endurance and strength to hold his own, particularly relying on a rotation of Soresu, Protection Bubble and Telekinesis to keep those in need safe from harm.
- Versatile - Bal is quite flexible, and has more than one card in his hand. Showing a high competency in the lightsaber arts, he also possesses knowledge of a good amount of Force powers that allows him to approach a problem from various angles.
- Puts others first - Bal very much views himself and the Jedi as protectors of the weak. While his defence can be hard to penetrate, it is then quite easy to expose him by taking a hostage or putting civilians in the line of fire. He will give his life to save those who cannot save themselves.
- No offensive creativity - Bal, as mentioned, is very defensive minded. He is unlikely to put an opponent under pressure unless they do that to themselves. He weathers the storm rather than create it.
- No mental fortress - Mind tricks, illusions and the like, are areas of the Force he has no ability in himself. Beyond that, born out of his lack of understanding for how to use such powers, he is ill prepared to face and defend against them. The way Bal fights requires a lot of focus, Even if his mind isn't fully conquered, the added pressure could quickly distract him to the point of missing a simple defensive sequence and exposing himself to attacks he otherwise could have dealt with.
Bal Eelen was born on Glee Anselm. While it might have been his destiny to one day be noticed by and join the Jedi Order, he was on route to have a normal childhood before the One Sith invasion. This became a turning point in his life, and eventually forced him to flee his home planet. At first the Nautolans were given a preferential treatment, but it quickly became clear any who stood against the Sith would be mercilessly crushed. His family never bought the lies and opposed the new regime whatever way they could from the start. His father was executed after a farce of a trial, and his mother along with many others vanished on the day they were supposed to catch a transport freighter off the planet. Deducing that they had been betrayed, Bal and his sister stoved away on a smuggler's ship and escaped alone together.
The Nautolan siblings' fortunes thankfully turned, and they did not have to spend long as wanderers. The smuggler who had carried them away was a kind soul, and they worked on his ship for a few months before they found themselves on the radar of a certain Silver Jedi Master and her Padawan. The two took leave of their smuggler saviour, and became members of the order. Bal's sister failed the initial trials. It was clear she was a Force Sensitive, but she did not share Bal's potential. She transferred to the AgriCorps, while Bal enrolled in the Silver's primary academy. The siblings still keep in touch to this day.
The Jedi Code was a great comfort, as was the companionship of his fellow Jedi. Together they helped him find peace, and through his faith in the Force he found purpose. Bal since had a fairly predictable career. He began as a promising Jedi Padawan though he never stood out as top of his class. He would eventually be taken up by a Jedi Master, under whose tutelage Bal eventually became able to complete his Jedi Trials and rise to the station of Jedi Knight. He has not yet taken on a Padawan of his own, but continues to be hard at work in his line of service to the Silver Jedi Order.
