ADVANCED SYSTEMS
STRENGTHS
  • Speed Demon: The Bajur is an exceptionally fast vessel at both sublight and superluminal speeds and is usually capable of outrunning stronger foes or hunting down weaker prey.
WEAKNESSES
  • Large Profile: While the Bajuur has the flight performance of a much smaller craft, it still retains a noticeably larger hull than a starfighter, making it easier to hit than most combat-oriented small craft.
DESCRIPTION
The Bajur started out as one of thousands of CEC's JumpMaster 5000 Scout vessels hundreds of years ago. After dozens of owners along with countless modifications and repairs, the Bajur came into the possession of one Scar Berenk, who had the vessel further modified by the less than savory CorelliSpace corporation. The resulting vessel differs significantly from its original modifications, having evolved into a larger and significantly more agile vessel packed with the tools to allow a bounty hunter and resourceful fringer to succeed in their trade. Aside from using a military grade ion engines and an advanced hyperdrive, the Bajur includes such surprises as concealed warhead launchers, a powerful ECM suite, and multiple false transponder codes to throw off foes. Internally, the vessel has grown into a working field office for this unusual being - having impressive confinement abilities for a ship its size along with workshop to allow Scar to repair and modify gear that might fall into his hands.

Technical Explanations

Flight Control Systems: The Bajur retains its original CEC flight control systems, with the basic layout and configuration having much in common with the more famouse YT-series of light freighters. In terms of actual feel when flying however, the Bajur has a very light stick and readily responds to even slight movements. While this allows the Bajur to perform some impressive acrobatics, it can also be dangerous and unforgiving to the novice pilot pushing his luck a little too much.

Sublight Engines: The Bajur's original engines were replaced by a previous owner with military grade ion engines which probably cost a high premium when new. Subsequent owners have tinkered with the drives to coax even more power out of them and added additional maneuvering thrusters and ion stream deflectors, making the Bajur an extremely capable craft at sublight speeds, despite its aging appearance.

Hyperdrive: The techs at CorelliSpace replaced the ships hyperdrive (itself another replacement from the original) with a more cutting edge Zephyr hyperdrive. Not only has this made the Bajur somewhat faster than normal than the typical starship, but it also means that the scoutship has a back-up hyperdrive built-in as well as a
HIMS built in, allowing it some ability to penetrate through interdiction fields if needed.

Hull: While the Bajur's hull looks original, a good portion of it is not. Part of the ship's middle was actually taken from a junked JumpMaster 5000 and carefully grafted on using mol-welding. The use of trimantium armor plating has further increased the durability of this graft by increasing the hull's tensile strength to allow it to withstand the high G-forces the craft may experience during particularly acrobatic performance. This grafting has increased the ship's length, and also provided more internal room for the Bajur, allowing its owners more amenities and cargo space.

Shields: The Bajur uses a PulseScreen Quick-Recharge Shield, which while not terribly powerful, has an excellent regeneration rate. Ideally, the Bajur relies on this more as a back-up defense, relying instead on the ship's excellent flight performance to evade attacks altogether.

Weapons: As with many CEC designs over the years, the Bajur's stock weapons have since been replaced. The vessel's nose now houses light ion cannons, useful for disabling enemy ships and other electronic-based targets. The turret now houses a pair of light laser cannons, which while highly capable of rapid fire, are also fairly short-ranged and relatively weak. Not terribly powerful, both of these weapon sets are typically legal for civilian ships to have installed and operable in most star systems. Hidden behind retractable plating, however, is a pair of Flex Tube Proton Torpedo Launchers that have been slightly lengthened in order to increase their payload. These are much more restricted in ownership (among many star systems), but also much more powerful. Each is capable of holding a wide variety of ordnance, which is often more restricted by what the ship's owner can get his hands on. One of the tubes has been jury-rigged to allow it to be reloaded in battle from the craft's interior. While this potentially allows the owner to change warhead types in battle, it is also not terribly safe and there's a good chance that if the tube is open (and warheads are loose) and the craft is jarred, one of the warheads could easily explode. Lastly, the Bajur has a F1 tractor beam, which is stronger than the typical cargo assistance tractor beams found on many light freighters. This tractor beam projector has a clear tactical, and its ventral mount is turreted, allowing the Bajur to snag people or objects for recovery or to hamper enemy craft to make them more vulnerable to attack or boarding. A hull-cutting ring on teh vessel's bottom allows the Bajur's owner to forcibly board many vehicles, vessels, and installations.

Countermeasures: Techs from CorelliSpace installed a 4x Phantom Sensor Jammer along with a 29L jammer booster, allowing the Bajur to disrupt most sensor readings and standard communication systems in its vicinity. This can be used defensively (to avoid having the ship's location transmitted or being actively targeted by guided warheads) or offensively (to cut off prey from contacting help or identifying/targeting the Bajur). The Bajur also has a small number of false transponder codes that it can switch to, with registrations made by a previous smuggler owner which allows the craft a measure of social stealth if used wisely.

Amenities: The Bajur isn't just a simple mode of transportation for Scar, but it is also a home. To that end, the Bajur has a relatively spartan cabin for Scar, along with two cramped cabins for guests. The rest of the ship's passenger space is dedicated for carrying unusually dangerous prisoners, which Scar can contain in a universal energy cage, freeze in carbonite, or lock in one of the two very basic but well-built holding cells. Part of the hold has also been converted into a small and cluttered workshop, allowing Scar to repair droids, weapons, armors, and even vehicles while on the move. While a far cry from a dedicated garage or high-end workshop, it does allow him to jury-rig objects and affect basic repairs on items. stuffed into the side of the hold is a foldable Undicur Jump Speeder, which provides Scar with a more mobile means of transport when on the ground.
