- Siaber Crystal Power Generator - The heart of the new weapon, the Siaber Crystal that powers each ion cannon is the reason it has such an increased rate of fire compared to standard ion cannons
- Enhanced Firing Rate - Due to the Siaber Crystal powering the system and modifications made to the ion accu-accelerator allow the weapon to fire ion bursts at a rapid rate
- Stopping Power - The influx of power from the Siaber Crystal also has slightly increased the strength of the ion bursts being fired from the cannon due to the ion particles being more excited than normal
- Overheating - While the Hydrus does have an increased rate of fire, it can overheat from prolonged bombardments and it will be rendered inoperable for several minutes until the systems cool it down sufficiently
- Broken Crystal - Siaber Crystals, if broken, tend to vaporize anything within a given radius depending on the size of crystal in use. For the Hydrus, that is roughly 20 meters
As part of Aurora's modernization program, the company began looking over its older ion cannon, the Gremlin. While it had served the company well, it was definitely in need of an upgrade, thus giving birth to the new AW-Ix01 "Hydrus" Ion Cannon. Incorporating Aurora's Siaber Crystal technology along with further enhancements to the ion accu-accelerator, the new Hydrus Ion Cannon has an even greater rate of fire than its predecessor.
Also, due to the Siaber Crystal powering the system, the ion particles themselves are slightly more agitated than the previous model, giving the Hydrus a slightly increased stopping power over more traditional ion cannons.
