Description:

As part of Project Bastion, Aurora Industries began development of a brand new turbolaser technology for use in long-range combat situations that could deal with one of the main problems of a long-range turbolaser, the rate of fire being less than a normal turbolaser.

Optimizing the galvan coils within the turbolaser, and reducing the power build-up for each effective shot, the AV-X01 is able to fire seven to ten laser bursts every minute, placing it on par with the rate of fire of a standard turbolaser. However, the effective range of the turbolaser was also extended, with fifty kilometers being optimal range and one hundred and twenty kilometers being the maximum. This extension gives the AV-x01 a small advantage at when damage is possible as enemies will still be slightly out of range before bringing their own long-range weapons to bear.

The downside to the AV-X01 is that the power draw is slightly greater than normal long-range turbolasers, requiring their own internal power reactor on larger ships of 1000 meters of greater, to draining other systems on smaller ships such as lights, artificial gravity, engine power, and shield strength. Recommended only if equipped to the larger vessels to avoid unnecessary power problems, even then, if a ship does not have a dedicated power reactor for just weapons, a larger ship will sacrifice two normal long-range turbolasers for one AV-X01.

Ok, so it has longer range, ~twice the firing rate, is mass produced.

On a 1000m+ ship how many normal long range turbolasers would you swap out for one of these given the additional draw on power?

Probably for every one of these, you'd need to eliminate one and a half or two normal long-range turbolasers assuming these ones are not tied into their own power reactor if the ship is designed to have a dedicated reactor for weapons

Ah right, one second, think I slightly misread you last post.

You should know, when it comes to submitting a ship, this isn't a blank cheque to get double firepower over anything else out there. Especially mass produced and with no development. A ship with as many of these as normal long range turbolasers, but described as having another generator, wouldn't fly. It would be judged on its balance, and it wouldn't be without serious setbacks elsewhere. Is that ok?

That's fine, I was basing the rate of fire off of what normal turbolasers have from what I could find on the wiki and just extended the ranges a tiny bit from what I could find on there as well, not a lot of information on turbolaser stats on there sadly.
