STRENGTHS
  • Manual Override Controls - Designed for supervised combat though capable of acting on its own when required; each AT-XV has a manual override system installed. This system allows an Officer or dedicated supervisor to override the current program or orders to issue new orders, update changing parameters, or take full manual control over the droid and operate it like a remote-controlled vehicle.
  • Upgraded Modules - Each unit comes with additional combat modules and programming installed into its system that increase the overall effectiveness and capabilities of the unit. These modules include information on combat, common formations, and increased tactical knowledge to permit the droid to overcome common issues and problems that it may come into contact with.
  • Electrical Defense Grid - This specialized system was included to provide each unit an additional boost to its defensive capabilities in close-quarters combat or when dealing with large crowds of individuals attempting to overrun a position. The system itself emits an electrical discharge upon coming into contact with an individual, though only if contact is made directly or with an object made of a conductive material.
  • Self-Sustaining Unit - To ensure the operational longevity of each unit in times when repair kits may not be readily available or minor damage would not warrant a repair technician be dispatched, each AT-XV comes equipped with this specialized component. These units alter the internal systems of the droid to ensure that basic diagnostics routines are capable of self-repair, thus, through several complex processes the droid is capable of sustaining and repairing itself regardless of the availability of repair kits.
  • Heuristic Processors - An advanced form of processor that is considered a step up from the basic droid processors that are more commonly installed among droids. This processor imparts upon the AT-XV the ability to learn by action rather than doing via installed programming and routines sent via commands to the droid. Through utilizing this processor, each droid is capable of learning and reasoning and in turn, enacting a solution to an encountered problem in what is deemed the most efficient means.
  • Specialization Patterns - The AT-XV was designed to be a highly adaptable and customizable unit that allowed a more flexible approach to combat situations via the addition of modular capabilities. Though each droid is manufactured with a specific designation in regards to a specific need - Anti-Infantry, Crowd Controlled, etc etc - each of these can further be customized or equipped per a specific pattern.
WEAKNESSES
  • Ungainly - The AT-XV is known for its sheer size and tips the scales as some of the heaviest droids in the galaxy. This coupling of weight and size has resulted in a droid that is limited in its movements; which have been described as lumbering and ungainly as the AT-XV is incapable of moving into position with anything other than a slow methodical mark. Likewise, its size alone means that all an individual needs is to aim their weapon in its general direction and a strike against the droid is likely.
  • Gyroscopic Stabilizer - Installed to assist in ensuring that the upper half of the AT-XV remains stable even when moving; this system is commonly installed in droids and starfighters. These systems are notoriously fragile and are known to cause problems of their own if they are damaged. The most commonly occurring faults when this system has been damaged have been recorded as the AT-XV falling forward as it loses its capability to remain stable in all three planes. Others have observed the droid losing mobility or beginning to travel in a continuous circle, rendering it more vulnerable to enemy fire or otherwise immobile if not outright disabled.
  • Pattern Installation - Each AT-XV arrives with a prior designation establishing its given operational role and what is required of the droid, such as being designated as Anti-Infantry or Artillery, as an example. However, the AT-XV does not come with a specific pattern pre-installed and often requires a lengthy and labor-intensive operation to install a specific pattern onto an individual droid. During this time, the AT-XV is vulnerable as it lacks the armaments or defensive capabilities; likewise, this installation process can result in units going with support or cause an advance to grind to a halt if the assigned AT-XVs are being modified to overcome an obstacle in the field.
  • Munitions - Some specific patterns of the AT-XV are more reliant upon kinetic munitions such as those equipped with missiles, grenades, or darts. These patterns require a readily available supply of additional munitions to replace those that have been deployed, which can potentially cause problems if supplies are running low, a unit has been cut off from resupply, a formation has outpaced their supply line, or units are pulled from an advancing formation to rearm.
  • Geographical Features - The size and weight of the AT-XV are, in itself, a hindrance to the droid, especially when it encounters specific geographical features such as sand, mud, or bog to name a few. These terrains, and similar features, can often render the droid immobile, either due to it sinking into the terrain or being trapped, often as a result of its size, and rendering the droid an easy target to be picked off. In this event, there is little that can be done to assist the droid short of deploying a specialized recovery team and hoping that it arrives before the droid sinks further into the terrain.
  • Blind Spot - Due to the overall size of the AT-XV and its slower, nearly limited reflexes, several blind spots have developed in its sensory field despite the addition of further sensors. Localized to the immediate rear or sides of the droid, these blind spots require that the droid either turn fully to scan the area or rely upon accompanying allies to provide cover to ensure that the droid is not struck from one of these positions.
  • Heavy Arms - Among the specific variations and patterns the AT-XV/i and AT-XV/s are known to be more lightly armored than compared to their counterparts. Their more lightly armored chassis render them more vulnerable to the heavier armaments and ordnance often deployed on vehicles or anti-vehicle weaponry deployed to counter these behemoths.
  • Infantry Assault - Though much more heavily armored, the AT-XV/v and AT-XV/a are considerably lacking in the means to protect themselves from concentrated small arms fire brought to bear by infantry squads and assault teams. Their limited anti-personnel weaponry, or, lack thereof, makes approaching these droids easier and makes it more likely that an infantry formation armed with anti-vehicle armaments or similar weaponry would disable these droids.
DESCRIPTION
There are times in a conflict when the need to preserve life is paramount or when a situation or hazard deems the deployment of organics into an area unacceptable as such a deployment may result in a greater loss of life than saved or preserved. In these instances, the need to accomplish the objective without exposing organic life to an unacceptable hazard results in the need for Battle Droids and their deployment to the front lines. The AT-XV is the successor of the older Veritas Series Battle Droid, though still retains many of the features and systems of its predecessor such as each droid being configured to accomplish a specific variation or role such as Anti-Infantry or Crowd Control; Furthermore, each specific variant is capable of being installed with a specialized pattern, further increasing its effectiveness and means to accomplish a goal or overcome a specific encountered obstacle.

The AT-XV is capable of being installed with multiple patterns based on its specific variation and in regards to a specific need or to accomplish an objective. This means that the AT-XV is afforded greater flexibility and offers those units it is assigned to a more robust means to accomplish a task. However, ensuring that the AT-XV is installed with a specific pattern is an often lengthy and labor-consuming process that can render the droid vulnerable to attack, or result in a unit going without the support of assigned droids. This can also result in a unit's advanced grinding to a halt as AT-XVs are modified to overcome an obstacle that has been encountered.

The Droids themselves are known for their sheer size and weight, which has caused their issues despite the strengths shown by the AT-XV. As such, the size of the droid has resulted in the development of blind spots even despite the installation of additional sensor systems, which are located on the sides and rear of the droid. These blind spots require that the droid move to face these directions to account for what may be in these areas or to rely upon additional droids or allies to secure the blind spots to prevent possible attacks. The weight of the AT-XV is also a hindrance in its own right when it comes to geographical features that the droid may encounter such as mud or sand, which can result in the droid sinking into the terrain and being rendered immobile.

However, the overall strengths of the droid favor its operational deployment and can be considered to outweigh the numerous weaknesses that the droid is said to experience. Its size and weight can act as a deterrent in its own right when one of these behemoths is marching towards an objective, and the ease with which a droid can be modified with a specific pattern further opens up its flexibility and usefulness in any given situation. As the Galactic Alliance continues to face the threat of conflict and finds itself standing against the Mandalorians and the Sith, the AT-XV has begun to bolster the beleaguered Galactic Alliance Defense Force.
