OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
GENERAL INFORMATION
• Planet Name: Ashuri
• Demonym: Rekali/Rekalis, sometimes called Ashurin Rekali by the Rekalis who live offworld
• Region: Outer Rim
• System Name: Ashurin System
• System Features: The Ashurin System contains the ruins of half a dozen shattered planets, most in the form of asteroid belts. Navigating the system is a highly rewarding challenge for Rekali prospectors. The Hard Roil has compromised the heliosphere and filled the system with dense nebula. Clan Rekali waystations and Ruus’ika Habitation Spheres can be found throughout the system. The system can only be reached via waystations and local knowledge, due to the extreme complexity and hazard of navigating the Roil (and especially the Hard Roil). Kar’tayl Independent Sensor Platforms also provide interdiction and monitoring support for all the surrounding routes.
• Coordinates: AF-19 (Junction hex)
• Major Imports: Ashuri is self-sufficient; it imports virtually nothing. Curios, luxury goods, and stolen or otherwise acquired technology come to mind.
• Major Exports: High technology, havod, Rekali services.
GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION
• Gravity: 1.1 Standard
• Climate: Temperate
• Primary Terrain: Forest and jungle
• Atmosphere: Type 1
• Major Locations:
Port Elijah: The Rekali capital, an urban centre built in and around gigantic trees. Port Elijah’s namesake was Elijah Rekali, great-uncle and counselor to Alec Rekali, the current leader. Port Elijah is the planet’s primary spaceport, with landing and construction facilities for vessels up to heavy cruiser/supertransport scale. The bulk of the city surrounds and permeates a dozen gigantic trees. A Kar’ara’novor shield generator, several Veildancer fighter squadrons, various defensive turrets, and a Rekali population protect the city. Port Elijah is the seat of Chief Alexa ‘Alec’ Rekali, who has ruled the Rekali people for many years, since her grandfather Ember stepped down. Port Elijah is deeply multicultural: all Rekali identities can be found here.
• Aaralyn Province: A mining and smelting district that produces havod, the red metal used for virtually all Rekali ships. Aaralyn Province is a hub of industry. Its namesake was Aaralyn Rekali, oldest daughter of Ember Rekali and the last of his children to die (murdered by the Republic at the Battle of Roche alongside many civilians). Of all the Rekali archetypes and identities, those who still cling to some elements of Mandalorian culture are most prominent in the metalworking community. Aaralyn Province’s regional dialect skews a little toward mando’a, and a bar called Sammael’s Rest is the only place on the planet to get real ne’tra gal.
• Gravewalk: A small city and a hub of Rekali witch culture, which blends Dathomiri teachings with Vahla cult abilities and elements of Fallanassi and Keetael lore. The name is a homage to Caspian Rekali, the Chief’s half-brother and counselor, and one of the Clan’s most notorious Force-users. Life in Gravewalk is a little less technological than elsewhere on the planet, by choice. Its local dialect skews toward Vahla and Paecean. Gravewalk has a close trading relationship with Aaralyn Province. It’s also where Force-crafting generally takes place, such as hybridizing the Calypho compasses that help the Rekalis navigate the Roil.

POPULATION
• Native Species: None of note
• Immigrated Species: Dathomiri (Human/Zabrak), Vahla, human
• Population: Moderately Populated
• Demographics: 40% Vahla, 40% Human, 20% Dathomiri Zabrak
• Primary Languages: Rekali creole, which is a mix of Basic, mando’a, Dathomiri Paecean, and Vahlan languages.
• Culture:
The Rekali people came from many points of origin, primarily: The Vahla who did not join the service of the One Sith; Clan Shardrock, a Dathomiri clan that included and accepted many Witches who had offworld or misfit heritage; and various Mandalorians.
• Rekali culture includes elements of all three backgrounds, but has evolved past all of them in one way or another. Minorities within Rekali society cling to old identities in whole or in part. Due to the high incidence of mild Force-sensitivity in Vahla and Dathomiri, and due to long years of discourse between cultures, most Rekalis take a pragmatic approach to religion and the Force. Your average Rekali accepts that the Force, the Manda, Dathomiri spiritualism, and Vahla rites are all aspects of the same reality. Beliefs about the afterlife vary, but the Manda, the Dathomiri spirit plane, and the Netherworld of the Force are concepts that blend well and get some traction, especially since Rekali Force-users have experienced all of the above. If Jedi or Sith ever came to Rekali-land, they’d face anything from cool amusement to hatred, given various Clan experiences in recent decades.
• It wouldn’t be objectively accurate to call the Rekali Mandalorians, Dathomiri, or Vahla. At various points in history, they’ve embraced all of those identities and retained the aspects that work for them. Perennial outcasts, often by their own actions, the Rekalis identify primarily as Rekali. The Mandalorian Empire’s purges of the Rekalis -- including severe violence by the Mantis clan under the reign of Ra Vizsla -- led to a shift in Rekali thought. It’s relatively rare these days for a Rekali to identify as Mandalorian, though many still respect some of the principles of the Resol’nare. ‘Teach your children to speak our language,’ ‘follow the most fit leader,’ and ‘protect the clan’ are concepts that translate well to the Rekali experience, for example.
• Daily life is what you would expect on your average high-tech colony world in the middle of a challenging forest frontier.

GOVERNMENT & ECONOMY
• Government: Benevolent dictatorship. Alec Rekali holds the title of Chief -- a holdover from more Mandalorian-centric days -- and retains absolute power in theory. In practice, she relies heavily on a far-flung network of local patriarchs and matriarchs, warleaders, ship captains, station commanders, subtribal councils, and other Clan Rekali authorities for advice and power projection. As she was forced into the role at a relatively young age (early thirties), Alec has spent the last half decade proving her intentions, ideas, strategies, and capabilities to her ‘cousins.’
• Affiliation: Clan Rekali
• Wealth: High. Due to long years of good business and high-value acquisitions, Clan Rekali is almost intolerably wealthy. The average Rekali can access many opportunities for education and advancement, most of them high risk/high reward. We’re talking about a culture that once stole a moon and sold it to Black Sun for two billion credits.
• Stability: Medium. Life is good, but the Rekali people hail from a variety of backgrounds, most of them competitive in nature. There’s a degree of plainspoken, straightforward conflict of interest between individuals and groups, and that’s all seen as normal as long as nobody gets murdered or tortured or whatever. It’s unthinkably rare for a non-Rekali to visit Ashuri, but if they ever do, it’s not the healthiest place to walk around after dark.
• Freedom & Oppression: The Rekalis are somewhat authoritarian. As described above, however, consensus between local stakeholders is just as important as strength. It would be unthinkable for Alec or another leader to deny a challenge, be it physical, ideological, or intellectual, on a technicality or a whim. Structures of power are deeply meritocratic and evidence-based. So far as crime goes, you won’t go to jail for a consensual fair fight, even if someone happens to get seriously injured or killed. Try an UNfair fight, though, and you can expect a beatdown or severe incarceration. Local laws don’t restrict use of stims or spice variants that boost strength and energy. Slavery is outlawed. Though Clan Rekali makes an exception for enemy combatants taken in battle -- it’s quite all right to make them work for their supper -- they’d never be permitted in the system.
MILITARY & TECHNOLOGY
• Military: Kar’ara’novor planetary shields and planetary hypervelocity guns protect the planet in case the Sith or the Mandalorian Empire ever come calling. The planet’s population draws from several martial cultures. The planet has no standing garrison, apart from local security and patrol starfighters.
• Technology: This planet draws from the resources and knowledge base of one of the galaxy’s largest companies, Clan Rekali Incorporated (T6). Clan Rekali specializes in nebular navigation and processing, hyperspace engineering, and exotic weapons technology.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Literally foreseeing the rise of the anti-Force Mandalorian Empire under Ra Vizsla, Clan Rekali began exploring and settling the Roil many years ago. Their waystations and scout ships carved out secret footholds in the dense nebular region. They gradually evacuated or sold off their holdings throughout the Gordian Reach and focused many of their assets in the Hard Roil. Shifting networks of waystations and exploration ships provided corridors for consolidation. They located Ashuri relatively early on, and began a colonization process. The arboreal planet proved rich in high-quality havod, and they began using the red metal for all their shipbuilding.

By the time the Mandalorian Empire allied with the Sith Empire and began purging, imprisoning, or Force-’curing’ members of Clan Rekali, the bulk of the Clan’s people and assets had resided in the Hard Roil for years. Chief Alec Rekali ordered continued centralization. The Clan’s external operations had long operated on something like a family cartel model, acquiring resources for the Hard Roil colonization effort. (‘Acquiring’ generally involved bounty hunting, large mercenary contracts, and high-profile heists.) During this period, the tongue-in-cheek moniker ‘Rekali Cartel’ began to be used, at least unofficially, to refer to some of the Clan’s operations outside the Roil.

In the modern era, the Mandalorian Empire’s excesses on Dathomir reawakened the spirit of Ember Rekali, the clan’s founder. With the aid of his distant cousin, Jethro Rekali, he found a way to smuggle large numbers of imprisoned Force-sensitives off Mandalore and reverse their Force-severing. Between them and various Dathomiri dissidents, Ember added to the Clan’s power base. He did not, however, challenge his granddaughter Alec’s authority as Chief. Instead, he opted to play a supporting role, securing personnel and resources for the Rekali people. The most trusted newcomers found their way to Ashuri, along with excellent loot.

When the Sith Empire assimilated the Gordian Reach, that included much of the Roil by default. Since the Roil is basically impossible to navigate, and the Hard Roil even more so, and the Rekalis aren’t especially interested in provoking their unwitting hosts at the moment, Ashuri remains unknown and unreachable for now.
