  • Can provide a powerful energy shield of varying sizes that can be controlled from orbit, from a terminal on the pod or have control routed to ground commander
  • High speed insertion - using its powerful thrusters it can get from orbit to the ground incredibly rapidly, catching its descent at the last moment with retros for landing, or slamming its nose cone into the ground for stability if no landing site available.
  • Heavy defenses - in order for it to survived High angle reentry with its speed pushed by its own thrusters, the nose cone is extremely heavily armoured for a ship of this size and it has both ray and particle shields.

  • Unarmed - this is a tool to carry a portable shield, it is not meant to fight itself so is entirely vulnerable in a firefight.
  • Slow take off - these engines that send it backwards are much less powerful than the forward engine, this means ascent is a slower process than descent, leaving it vulnerable if trying to evacuate from hostile areas.
  • No crew facilities - while there is space inside the craft for engineers to work, their is no life support and the manufacturer also does not even guarantee full vacuum protection. The heavy landing would also likely seriously injure any riders as the dampness are calibrated to protect the machinery not living creatures.

These pods were somewhat hastily designed and rushed into production by the Ashlan Crusade after discussions about reducing collateral damage, and also as a way of protecting ground forces against bombardment.

They are launched from aboard starships on orbit and use their own thrusters to maneuver themselves on a high angle descent to the target below. Their heavy shields and armour protect them against defensive fire and reentry damage, but they are otherwise defenceless
craft.

They drop at hypersonic speed and either slam into the ground nose first using their nose as support. Or for less penetrable surfaces, or surfaces that should not be damaged, they land on retractable legs.

Their shield emitters can project a large shield bubble to protect a wide area as much a 120m in diameter, or they can be used as directional shields, forming a curved arc of shield with a radius of up to 150m, but only covering a 40° arc horizontally and a maximum height
of around 20m.

These shields can also be used whilst in flight, allowing them to be used as defensive support craft, but they add only limited extra protection to craft already equipped with
starship grade shields.

Once they are no longer required, the same thrusters used as retros lift the craft back off of the ground and into the air. Once around 30m up they will rotate and their main engines will return them to space.
