This was a weapon that Aricsias Renaud, or "12" as he once was designated, used when he was a Temple Guard Commander during the Old Republic. after so long in carbonite, it just was not going to hold. So he needed to make some updates from available resources. For example, he can own use the weapon underwater if need be, many of the ages components have been replaced, Phrik and Songsteel have replaced much of the metals, this while he could always separate the weapons themselves they are not easily cut in two. Cyclic crystal array allows him to change crystals easily.
He is still very much a Temple Guard, but now Aricsas Renaud can now enter work on the field.
Overall this is very much the same weapon as it once was, but the Galaxy is a much more dangerous place than it was when he first constructed the weapon. He is just keeping up with the times.
