The daughter of Sawa and Xavier, Aoi lived for the most part a pampered life that made her want for nothing but she had to earn her place. Her father doted on her but he was not a kind man she knew that much and he made sure that she earned and went for everything that she got. Teaching her how to feed and prolong the suffering, to keep her food alive longer so that she didn't leave a trail of bodies.... then something happened... her mother had her feast upon her father and they fled the necropolis for Atrisia once again bringing
Nine Lives
with them. She was one of the few who knew who the woman in the ornate box was being kept alive by her mothers anger and rage.THeir return to Atrisia was quiet, Aoi going to the ancient Fortress of the Dawn and finding the Onna with her mother they brought them to heel and in the battle she experienced the power of a longma for the first time. She rode one into battle with a crescent blade and the force to attack the Onna and brow beat them into submission. Once her mother had managed to quell their dissent they fell in line and she lived the reclusive life in the mountain fortress overlooking the village. Often regarded as indifferent to the people she knew the value of keeping them fed and content enough. She worked to make sure the farmers were satisfied to not revolt.
The small skirmishes with the tsura, the dangerous and mysterious horselords who came from the north rarely but they still did raids from time to time. She was old enough and impulsive to lead a scouting party to attack them first... the village they came to being considered a friend to her mother had invited them to stay and in the night they killed the scouts at dinner. Aoi taking a blade to the face that destroyed her eye beyond the ability to repair even if she drained the village. She escaped and her mother found her taking the daughter of the lord as recompense as the village was left there to survive with a wall being built around it.
Under threats of death the villagers were kept in and revolted against their lord who broke customs of hospitality and now a curse was upon all of them. Himiko faced something worse then death as Aoi's mother wasn't one to forgive and what she had done to Ni-ne was a testament to that. Aoi though hid herself away, her face was damaged, her beauty destroyed and she believed herself hideous to all of them. When a part was thrown there were other nobles who laughed at her misfortune even with the dangerous threat of her mothers ire. Only one of the Atrisian nobles was kind and danced with her even though he wouldn't look at her.
She learned later he had done it out of pity and to show up the others as they were trying to make a game of it. Her anger saw a mounted unit of Longma riders running them down in a field for a petty revenge. She eventually though was married off to the lord to secure his lands for what her mother was planning and the lost tower was given to her... deep in the mountains and overseeing the narrow pass that the horselords of Atrisia could use to get to the mainland. She eventually had a child with the man.
Elise Ike
was born and with her longer life eventually the lord died leaving Aoi in the frozen north itself. Her icy fortress overlooking through the winters as Elise eventually grew up.Her daughter departure from Atrisia though was an experience, she had tried to fight her grandmother and learned the danger of going against one who was older and more powerful then most of them. Aoi didn't always agree but there was a reason why she didn't fight and chose to serve like this... away from her mother in a plce no one else would come and visit. Aoi stayed there and built up her obsidian guards.... a combination of the onyx and onna that were fashioned to be loyal to her. She spent the next centuries ensuring what villages she oversaw flourished in the harsh conditions. When attacks came the north was largely left alone which was helpful.
Then she could see more came, Elise returned to Atrisia and made up with her grandmother. She had been informed that she had a granddaughter

. Aoi made sure to meet them but few were ever invited to the mountain fortress itself. Aoi continued to train and keep her people productive as more was being doe and improvements from the emperor and empress were offered... and accepted. They weren' going to turn down the chance with new walls and defenses to ensure the horselords didn't get deas with all of the upheaval.
