DESCRIPTION |
The AO-M902 was designed and developed alongside the much larger AF-M902 and is intended to be deployed alongside those larger vehicles in a support capacity. Much like their larger counterparts, the outposts share similarities with the Skyhooks so often observed on Coruscant and the Ubrikkian Floating Fortress, and remain no less of an impressive feat of engineering prowess. Each outpost is held aloft and slowly ambles through the skies thanks to banks of powerful Repulsorlift Engines as they are carefully towed into their desired position, often located in proximity with their larger counterpart; at which point they are anchored into place thanks to powerful Tractor Pins. Once in position, the Outpost can utilize the Tractor Pins to adjust its altitude, increasing or decreasing it as needed to match the altitude of its adjacent outposts or fortress. Much like the larger AF-M902, the AO-M902 can only be accessed via a set of reinforced carbonite nanofiber Turbolift Tubes descending from the underside to the surface below, and often protected by ground emplacements to prevent unwanted access. While these outposts are equipped with banks of powerful Repulsorlift Engines, they are known to be slow and ungainly, lacking overall acceleration with maneuverability being non-existent. Though smaller than their counterparts, the AO-M902 is nonetheless well-armed and boasts an equally impressive array of armaments and defensive measures allowing it to withstand the punishment of a prolonged engagement, with their primary armaments consisting of Blaster Cannons and SB-920 Laser Cannons. These outposts also come equipped with a Deflector Shield Generator and boast defensive measures such as Missile Deactivation Transmitters and Point Defense Emplacements. As they were designed and developed in tandem with their larger counterpart, many of the secondary and tertiary systems are also automated, allowing for smaller crew complement, thus limiting the drain on local personnel reserves. With the AF-M902 beginning to see deployment to the Systems at the fringes of Alliance Space, the AO-M902 is following closely behind to further reinforce those systems without draining the local reserves. Despite its drawbacks, specifically its limited speed and non-existent maneuverability, the AO-M902 more than makes up for these shortcomings thanks to its automated systems, impressive armaments, and hardy defensive measures. Its most prominent feature is the connector struts that connect the upper and lower structures of these vehicles, and though these represent structural weak points of these vehicles, their overall capabilities allow this additional weakness to be overlooked with ease. As War looms upon the horizon, the Alliance will be ready as these specialized Skyhooks fill the skies of countless Alliance Systems. |
