STRENGTHS
  • Extreme Close-Range Stopping Power - At short distances, the DSG-12 is a devastating weapon with a dispersed energy pattern that delivers massive impact, with the potential to drop an armored or unarmored target, halting charges or breaches with a single shot.
  • Multiple-Target Effect - The scatter effect allows one discharge to affect several closely grouped adversaries, making the weapon highly effective during boarding actions, riots, or corridor fights.
  • Reduced Long-Range Collateral Risk - Energy dispersion causes rapid loss of coherence beyond the optimal range, limiting penetration through walls, bulkheads, or unintended targets deeper in a facility.
  • Psychological Shock Value - The visual and auditory signature of a scatterblaster often causes immediate hesitation or retreat among hostile crowds, sometimes ending confrontations without repeated firing.
WEAKNESSES
  • Extremely Limited Range - The DSG-12 is ineffective beyond short distances, with targets outside the optimal range may suffer only superficial effects or none at all, leaving operators vulnerable if positioning is poor.
  • High Power Consumption - Each scatter discharge consumes significantly more energy than a standard blaster shot, rapidly draining power packs during repeated engagements.
  • Low Precision - The DSG-12 is unsuitable for precision targeting. Friendly forces or hostages must be clear of the target zone before firing, limiting its use in complex environments.
  • Specialized Role - Excelling only in close quarters, outside of its niche, it is inferior to carbines or rifles, requiring operators to transition weapons once distance increases.
DESCRIPTION
The DSG-12 is the standard-issued scatterblaster deployed by Dreadstar Security Solutions for extreme close-quarters situations where immediate threat neutralization is required. Intended for boarding teams, detention control units, and last-resort escalation during riots, the DSG-12 prioritizes area denial and stopping power over precision. Its role is to decisively break hostile momentum in confined spaces before the situation spirals out of control. Manufactured by Aether Technologies, the DSG-12 is based on established scatterblaster principles and shares design similarities with the AT-SB10 and AT-B12 production lines. Rather than firing a single, coherent bolt, the weapon disperses a blaster charge into multiple energy fragments at the muzzle. Engineers refined this dispersion to maximize short-range lethality while minimizing long-range collateral damage, making the weapon suitable for controlled but forceful security operations.

A short, reinforced barrel houses a specialized scatter focusing chamber that fractures the tibanna gas bolt upon discharge. At close range, this produces a devastating cone of energy capable of overwhelming multiple targets or striking a single opponent with massive impact. Beyond short distances, the energy rapidly dissipates, sharply reducing the risk of unintended casualties deeper in a structure or crowd. Physically, the DSG-12 is compact but heavy, featuring a thick barrel shroud and aggressive heat venting. A folding stock and vertical foregrip allow operators to brace the weapon effectively during high-stress engagements.

The weapon's balance favors stability over speed, reflecting its intended use in deliberate room-clearing or defensive line-holding roles. Fire controls are deliberately simple. The DSG-12 operates primarily in semi-automatic scatter mode, with a regulated stun-scatter option for non-lethal crowd control at very close range. Automatic fire is intentionally omitted to prevent reckless use and excessive thermal buildup. Dreadstar Security Solutions' doctrine emphasizes single, decisive shots rather than sustained fire.

Within Dreadstar Security Solutions, the DSG-12 is considered a psychological and tactical shock weapon. Its distinctive discharge, visible energy spread, and immediate effect on targets often end confrontations instantly. Deployment of scatterblasters is tightly controlled, reserved for scenarios where standard rifles or carbines cannot reliably stop an advancing threat in confined space.
