Ambrosia Nano-Restoration

OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
 • Intent: To create a powerful way of using nano-technology to restore and heal rather than destroy. This technology is in its early stages, but still has fantastic potential.
 • Image Source: Here. John Dickinson on Motionworks.
 • Canon Link: Nanotechnology.
 • Restricted Missions: Uses Nanotechnology at semi-unique.
 • Primary Source: N/A
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
 • Manufacturer: Archangel Research & Design
 • Model: AM-01
 • Affiliation: Amara Zarides & Enyo Typhos or other characters of their writers only.
 • Production: Semi-Unique
 • Material: Heavy duty durasteel container with magnetic stabilisation, power cell, nanites.
SPECIAL FEATURES
 • Ambrosia creates a ‘template’ of an organic attached to it. This is programmed into the nanobots so they recreate exactly as before.
 • Template requires a special pod for scanning and nano programming, but after that the Ambrosia is portable and can be used somewhat on the fly.
Strengths:
 • Restoration. The nanobots inside Ambrosia can regenerate any injury or condition, bringing the user back to the state they were in at the time of the last template creation. It can even restore limbs lost.
 • Curative. By perfectly reconstructing the user, Ambrosia destroys all poisons or toxins present.
 • Resurrection. Ambrosia can even bring back the recently deceased, provided they died within the last 24 hours or so. Since the nanobots reconstitute the organic tissue back to a certain point life can be restored. Beyond that point though the breakdown of the body is too severe.
 • Adaptable. Any organic can be saved as a template. A wise person would keep regular templates of themselves and keep Ambrosia close just in case….
Weaknesses:
 • EMP. Nanobots are affected by ion and EMP attacks as any droid is. Though the shell is hardened, a powerful ion strike will destroy the bots.
 • Memory. The nanobots restore the template exactly which means that a person is essentially reset back to their last template. They will have no memory of any time after that, which will be disorientating at best, and downright difficult at worst.
 • Conditions. Pre-existing diseases and conditions which existed before the template creation will be restored. For instance, if a person had cancer they did not know about, it would be restored as it was just as before.
 • Lifespan. Ambrosia is not a very effective tool for immortality for several reasons, but mainly because it keeps one’s age and conditions but does not keep memories. Thus, someone in old age could hang on to life by forgetting about the time since their last template, but this would be a fairly wretched existence.
 • Destruction. A body which is destroyed cannot be healed or restored. Further, severe damage to over 50% of the body will be too much to restore. The general rule is one missing limb can be regrown, but anything more is beyond the scope of Ambrosia.
 • Rare. The nanobots in Ambrosia are difficult to create and contain, leading to a very low production run. This is not something which can be made universal.
DESCRIPTION
Nanotechnology is a recently opened field of galactic innovation, picking up from ancient attempts to utilise this technology during the Clone Wars.
For Enyo Typhos and Amara Zarides, their takeover of Archangel allowed them much greater access to resources than they had previously. They found that Archangel had attempted to create nanotech items, but had never reached completion.

Amara pushed for nanotech to be used in a positive way a little instead of destructive ways. Thus Ambrosia was created as a means of preserving and healing.

Ambrosia itself is not much to look at. A very heavy duty durasteel canister about 30cm tall and 15cm wide, with a pair of powerpacks built into the top and bottom. Inside appeared to be nothing more than a grey ball of smoke. What this was however was millions of nanobots held in a magnetic field by the powerpacks so they did not escape.

In basic, Ambrosia was a two-step process.
First, a complete physical and tissue sample bank was created along with a brain scan and detailed measurements of the individual. This was called ‘templating’ and was then programmed into the Nanobots inside the Ambrosia capsule.
Second, when needed the Ambrosia could be connected to several parts of the person’s body and injected. The person created as the template needs to be the person injected, as a first scan runs a simple DNA test and if it is not a match the operation fails. This is vitally important to make sure some very odd things do not occur.

If connected to the correct person, the template is powerfully sedated, and then the nanobots set to work. They recreate the template exactly, down to the very microbes and makeup the person was wearing. What is vital to note though is that although this can cure any wound, disease or poison, it essentially resets the patient back to the template. This means memories especially are reset, and the patient will wake up with absolutely no memory of what transpired since the template was created and now.

As far as regeneration, Ambrosia is capable of repairing wounds, reattaching limbs, and even regrowing a limb, though anything more is beyond the power of a single Ambrosia canister. Even someone who has died within the last day can be revived, though beyond that it becomes impossible as the organic decay prevents proper reconstitution.

The greatest weakness of Ambrosia is the time between the template creations and their use. If left too long the loss of memory can be extremely disruptive. Further, since it restores the template exactly, any pre-existing conditions or diseases would also be restored. Finally, there is a limit to what can be saved. A person blown to pieces or missing several limbs cannot be restored or saved, even with multiple doses.
As a means of achieving immortality, Ambrosia is more Groundhog Day than eternal life, since one is limited by the templates they have created and the memory loss caused. Therefore, Ambrosia is better for healing wounds than achieving eternal life.

To combat this, Enyo (who cannot benefit from Ambrosia due to her unique circumstance) insists her clone ‘siblings’ like Amara undertake a ‘templating’ every month or before major missions.
