PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Manufacturer: Archangel Manufactorum
  • Affiliation: Hanaya Enzar
  • Market Status: Closed-Market
  • Model: AM-DS01 Droid Starfighter
  • Production: Limited
  • Material:
    • Starfighter components
    • class 4 droid brain
    • durasteel hull
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Droid starfighter
  • Length: 4.3m
  • Width: 2.1m
  • Height: 1.9m
  • Armament: Low
  • Defenses: Very Low
    • with no Shields and a relatively thin Durasteel outer casing the droid is very vulnerable. The armour and angled surfaces can shake off a few glancing hits from light laser cannons or flak bursts but anything more substantial punch straight through the armour.
  • Squadron Count: Extreme: 24
  • Maneuverability Rating:Very High
    • Unshackled by the limitations of an organic pilot, the droid can perform incredibly hard harsh maneuvers
  • Speed Rating: Average
  • Hyperdrive: no
STANDARD FEATURES
  • All standard features for a ship of this size minus life support, hyperdrive and shields
ADVANCED SYSTEMS
  • Advanced droid brain
  • Encrypted direct cloud communication with other members of the squadron
  • Rapid target acquisition sensors
  • Friends or Foe identification protocols
  • Limited vocaliser
STRENGTHS
  • Comparitvely Cheap and expendable - without a lot of features that would normally be present in a fighter and no pilot, the fighters can be deployed in large numbers at a low cost.
  • Extremely agile - no organic pilot means the ship can be put through maneuvers that would exceed safe tolerances.
  • Swarm intelligence - the ships are individually quite intelligent and capable but the encrypted data stream between squadron members improve this further allowing coordinated thinking and tactics. A tactic that the swarm intelligence seems to favour is microsecond timing of missile launches to saturate a target with otherwise individually fairly low powered munitions.
WEAKNESSES
  • Fragile - with little armour and no Shields, they are vulnerable to virtually all weapons that would typically target star fighters.
  • Swarm intelligence requires signal - while the military grade encryption and transmission is proof against passive electronic warfare, targeted jamming can sever the link forcing the droids to act independently and reducing their peak efficiency.
  • Light weaponry - the laser cannons are excellent against other star fighters and the miniature concussion missiles are effective against slightly larger ships, but against capital ships there is not much they can do other than apply pressure to the enemy defences to allow alternative platforms to do their jobs.
  • Won't kamikaze - a popular tactic of droid starfighter commanders is the kamikaze, a strange and unintentional quirk in the droid personality matrix means the droids will almost always refuse an order to intentionally ram. Software engineers cannot seem to rid the droid of this quirk.
DESCRIPTION
Fast, agile but supremely fragile, the droid starfighters are deployed in swarms to overwhelm the enemy. Preffered by commanders who do not wish to risk highly trained pilots in combat, the droids are relatively cheap and expendable.

Equipped with high quality droid brains and the ability to use swarm tactics they make dangerous foes. And the millisecond timing tactic can be very effective. The image of several squadrons lining up hundreds of concussion missiles to land in the same second over a large area is quite awe inspiring.
