- Through the combination of Sith and Dathomiri magics, the mask allows the wearer to take on the physical appearance (the mask looks and feels like flesh when worn), mannerisms, voice, and Force presence of a victim who was killed by the owner of the mask and their soul absorbed within it. This includes perceptions of light and dark side auras depending on the trapped soul and their alignment.
- Sith and Dathomiri magic allow a wearer to take on the appearance and Force presence of the victim whose soul is trapped within the mask.
- Like many objects altered by Sith alchemy, the glass is resistant to lightsabers and other energy weaponry.
- While they are made of glass, they are rather comfortable to wear and are relatively light to carry, even with the Sith alchemy treatment adding weight.
- The mask can only hold one soul at a time. If the wearer wants to change what their disguise will be, they have to allow the soul they have previously trapped to become one with the Force through an incantation.
- If struck with Force Light, the mask will shatter and the disguise will be broken, the soul within the mask freed to join with the Force in peace.
- If struck with enough kinetic force, the mask will fracture and the wearer's disguise will also flicker in and out at random intervals, possibly alerting enemies to their presence and to infiltrators.
As the Lady of Secrets, and a woman that greatly enjoyed the game of intrigue and secrecy, it had become apparent to Taeli that a tool was needed to aid Sith infiltrators and spies on their missions abroad. However, it also was evident that not all of these agents would be able to create a Mask of Sith Alchemy, altering their forms at a molecular level was beyond the talents of knowledge of many. To rectify this, Taeli and one of her Paradox Adepts, Soraya Sedran expanded on the glass masks that Soraya used in her own missions to alter her appearance.
The new masks, glass treated with Sith alchemy and Dathomiri magic through submerging them within spirit ichor summoned by Taeli, were dubbed Akwursa masks. To change the wearer's appearance, one would need to find a victim to sacrifice and allow the mask to absorb their soul upon their untimely demise. The owner of the mask would then be able to take on all appearances and the presence of the being within the Force whenever the mask was worn, allowing them to essentially assume the life of their victim.
With their creation, the Akwursa Masks, while not a truly insidious artifact, would certainly prove useful in the near future for both her plans and those of
