SPECIAL FEATURES
  • The Izolda Mortar can be configured into any style aesthetic, based on whether it is being fielded for an infantry division, integrated into a droid chassis, or equipped onto a vehicle, and can also be configured into any layout, such as a single-tube launcher or multi-tube launchers that have a varying number of launcher tubes as the engineers at Aurora deem appropriate for their design.
  • The Izolda can launch various explosives, grenades, and munitions, up to specially designed artillery shells, through its combination of magnetic coils and repulsorlift to launch its payloads at high speeds. This grants the weapon a certain degree of stealth for its user as it doesn't create a muzzle flare or release heat or sound when it fires.
  • The combination of a thorilide shock absorber and an autosteadying gyro-gimbal heavily reduces any recoil from the Izolda whenever it fires.

DESCRIPTION

Developed as part of Aurora Industries' Gilgamesh Program, the AI-117m "Izolda" Variable Mortar was designed to be the company's first in-house developed mortar system. The company recognized that, as a launcher, the versatility and modularity the company designed into its weapon systems needed to be focused on its configurations and ammunition variety, rather than different firing modes as seen in weapons such as the Aurelia or the Vraska. The engineers designing the Izolda made it highly customizable in the way it could be configured, ranging from single-tube launchers to multiple different multi-tube configurations that can fire anything from grenades to specially designed artillery shells, and ensuring that it could be integrated into a droid chassis or vehicle hardpoint in any configuration or as a turret. The weapon was also designed utilizing the same systems as the Ixion Mass Driver so projectiles launched from the tubes are fired at high speeds utilizing mass driver and repulsor technologies to eliminate muzzle flare and sound released from the Izolda.

The system has also been integrated with Aurora's new Karn Cognitive Module to act as the Izolda's targeting computer, with the droid brain able to accurately and automatically calculate trajectories, adjust firing arcs to environmental conditions, and otherwise assist the user with delivering the explosives to their targets. The system also makes use of an autosteadying gyro-gimbal and thorilide shock absorbers to mitigate any recoil the weapon might experience.
