OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Scientific Name: Agent 405-2A.
  • Abbreviation: N/A
  • Common Name: Fireflash
  • Virus Family: Sarinus Peritus
  • Origins: The Scientific laboratories beneath Scarif, housed in Camp Phoenix.
  • Other Locations: N/A
  • Description: A deadly odourless, colourless airborne virus that is released in an oxygenated gas. Highly contagious, the virus, after the victim contracting the virus by means of airborne infection or bodily fluids, enters an incubation period in which the virus masks itself as a flu, trivial in nature, until it can successfully take hold, and later strip the cognitive functions of the victim.

PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Morphology: Spherical
  • Size: 20-30 nm
  • Color: Blue-grey
  • Distinctions The virus is a blue-grey, spherical entity when viewed at the microscopic level.

VIRUS SPECIFICS
  • Source: Having been created in a laboratory environment in the depths of Camp Phoenix, Agent 405-2A is a synthetic, man-made instrument of biological warfare, intended to turn the numbers of the opposing force against them.
  • Host Species: Beings who possess a respiratory system.
  • Host Range: Broad
  • Viability: Temperate.
  • Lethality: Fatal
  • Severity: High
  • Infectivity: Extreme
  • Modes of Transmission: Primarily airborne. Infection is likely to occur if one comes into contact with an infected individual's bodily fluids, such as sweat, blood and saliva.
  • Incubation Period: Thirty days
  • Re-infection: Positive.
  • Vaccine/Cure: No vaccines or cures at present

SYMPTOMS & EFFECTS

A subject that has contracted the Agent 405-2A appears to display symptoms of a regular flu at first; rising fever and overall body temperature, coughing, sneezing, runny nose, fatigue, overall muscle and body aches during the incubation period of the virus. On top of these symptoms that overall appear to be common and trivial, disguising the sinister reality of the virus, the infected subjects have been observed to display hostile demeanour in social interactions, that only increases in violence throughout the infection progresses, during the incubation period of the virus.

Upon the completion of the virus’ observed incubation period of roughly thirty days, the infected individual is observed to have reached the state of acting upon nothing more than primordial instinct; their cognitive capabilities that set them apart from non-sentient beings compromised. In this stage of the infection, the infected subject’s - and the virus for that matter - prime motive is to hunt for sustenance, and continue to spread the virus to beings that can prove to be a healthy host for Fireflash.

STRENGTHS
  • Increased Speed: The intended creation of a ‘super soldier’ has meant that the body does not feel fatigue as easily, creating a system by which the afflicted can surpass the natural limitations of their body prior to infection.
  • Increased Resilience: With a lack of fatigue comes a need for increased resilience to stave off potential danger. They are much more adept at handling pain and minor wounds that would ‘stop’ a human, who is not compromised by the virus, and are far less likely to induce similar debilitations.
  • Heightened Senses: The sense of sound and sight required, including an increased ability to see in low-light situations, has made environmental acclimatisation a profound asset to the afflicted. Their ability to hear sounds outside of the natural ambience has made them adept at determining and perceiving threats.

WEAKNESSES
  • Extreme Temperatures: The heightened senses found in the victims of the virus can be utilised and used to compromise them. Their lack of awareness of what would hinder normal function makes them incredibly vulnerable to heat and cold, their bodies not adapting or regulating as necessary. In short, their bodies are unable to recognize the danger of extreme temperature sources and unable to sense the damage done to their body, making them vulnerable to extreme heat and cold
  • Helmet Filtration: Safety can be assured to those handling the virus, or coming into casual contact, by wearing appropriate filtration equipment with a designated and uncompromised source of oxygen (for those that breathe it). Mere skin-to-skin contact will not result in infection unless there are significant open wounds that come into contact, in which case the chances of infection do rise. Direct inhalation of airborne variants and ingestion are the strongest and most certain ways to experience the life-altering effects of the virus as intended.
  • Reckless: Their lack of fatigue and ‘superhuman’ conditioning makes the victims particularly vulnerable, especially when in conflict with environmental or introduced dangers. The victim will not assess truly, as an otherwise ordinary sentient might, the nature of the danger to life and thus be reckless in their pursuit. They have a compromised sense of vulnerability and thus do not typically extricate themselves from harm.
  • Compromised Cognition: With the focus of the virus meant to suppress various life-preserving human functions, the victims of the virus are typically left in a primitive function. The basic preservation of function is maintained; the need to find energy through food, breathing air etc but basic cognition and many factors that imply sentience, have been suppressed or altogether eradicated. It is not known whether it can be undone. This also impedes the infected’s ability to operate complicated electronics and machinery.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Agent 405-2A’s origins are murky and shrouded by the fall of empires and years of galactic conflict. Although it was discovered and unleashed upon the galaxy in an old Confederacy military blacksite -- Camp Phoenix -- said blacksite actually predated the Confederacy, having been constructed by the old Galactic Empire before its collapse. Who actually is responsible for the creation of the virus is unknown, as it could be either of the nations, both, or neither. Either way it is of little consequence, as both nations collapsed and are no longer around to be held accountable for the creation of Codename: Fireflash.

The original intention of Agent 405-2A was a formula that would transform its host into a supersoldier, with heightened senses, strength, and tolerance for pain among other desirable traits. However the virus could not be perfected, and all test subjects were left with significant and permanent damage to their cognitive functions. After years of unsuccessful work, the project was shuttered and would’ve been forgotten to time if Hex Incorporated hadn’t come into control of the project in the wake of the Confederacy’s collapse. Recognizing the deadly potential of a viral disease that turned its hosts into mindless killing drones. Hex Incorporated would secretly work for years to continue to enhance the virus, until in a freak accident subjects broke out of containment. Hex Incorporated quickly fled Camp Phoenix to avoid culpability, and within a matter of weeks the near entirety of Scarif became infected, setting the stage for an unprecedented intergalactic pandemic.
