DESCRIPTION |
The AF-M902 Floating Fortress represents Aether Systems foray into the realm of Planetary Defense via the production of an impressive fortress that can be deployed in the atmosphere of most planets and planetoids. Sharing design similarities to Skyhooks often seen over Coruscant and the older Ubrikkian design, the AF-M902 is an impressive feat of ingenuity and engineering prowess. Held aloft by powerful banks of Repulsorlift Engines, they amble through the skies at a leisurely pace as they are carefully towed into position and anchored in place by a series of powerful Tractor Pins that can be utilized to increase or decrease the altitude of these formidable defensive structures. Though both imposing and powerful, these vehicles are not known to have any capacity to house, maintain, or launch aerial vehicles or starfighters, often relying on planetside stationed vehicles for additional aerial support. Likewise, the only known means to access these impressive fortifications is through reinforced carbonite nanofiber Turbolift Tubes that descend from the underside to the planet below which are often protected by ground emplacements to prevent unwanted access. Though they are equipped with a powerful bank of Repulsorlift Engines, the AF-M902 is known to be slow, lacking any kind of speed that would allow it to rapidly move from position to position. Likewise, it lacks any means of maneuverability and is otherwise incapable of executing precision or rapid maneuvers that other aerial vehicles or Repulsorlift vehicles can execute. Due to the size of these vehicles, many of the secondary and tertiary systems are automated, allowing for a smaller crew to control the vehicle without placing a burden on local manpower reserves. Each AF-M902 maintains an impressive array of armaments, predominately consisting of Blaster Cannons which are known to be more effective when utilized in atmospheric conditions as well as more powerful SB-920 Laser Cannons for heavier armored vehicles and targets. Additionally, they are equipped with reinforced armor, point defenses, and a Deflector Shield Generator to round out the fortresses' impressive defensive capabilities. With the likelihood of Invasions on the horizon, the need to provide planets with defensive means is paramount. The AF-M902 represents the means to easily reinforce and provide planetary defense to even the most sparsely populated planets without being a drain on limited reserves of manpower. Its heavier defenses ensure that they are capable of withstanding the punishment of prolonged sieges and aid in preventing enemy forces from reaching the surface. Though it often takes time to tow these floating fortresses into position, moving slowly on multiple banks of Repulsorlift Engines, its defenses, and armaments more than make up for its lack of speed, maneuverability, or ability to launch additional aerial support. Despite this, it is only a matter of time before these impressive fortresses are seen on the planets at the very fringe of Alliance space. |
