A Simple Test [OS, Dev Thread]

Onyx raised his hand and tried to block the sun that was beaming into his eyes. He cursed as sweat rolled down and burned his eye, the non synthetic one of course. The other just sat still as the sweat rolled down it, which still psyched Darren out a little bit. He ignored it and turned around to face four large droids, each one wearing armor that looked similar to the armor worn by clones from the Clone Wars era of history. Though they were heavier, and each had different colors to their armor.

They were lined up side by side, their arms pointed to the ground and their backs straight to the sky. They were rather large and bulky due to the armor, but that was good. They didn't appear to be droids, they looked more like soldiers. Onyx examined each one of them as we paced up and down the line. Stopping he turned to the one closest to him. His armor was pure white, the only one that wasn't colored. "Boss," he spoke sternly. The hud on the droid flickered to a light blue tint and it's hand shot up to a salute. Onyx smirked and moved to the next one, the orange one. "Scorch." It flickered to life like the first. Next down the line was the green droid. "Fixer." Finally Onyx reached the final of the four, who was in slightly heavier armor. "Sev."

All droids were active and saluting Onyx he stood pridefully before them, his hand behind his back.

Darth Adekos observed proceedings only a few feet behind Onyx. From a distance it would have been easy to mistake these droids as being organic. It was the rigidity of their movements and the flickering of their HUDs that would ultimately give them away. Adekos, on the other hand, could detect a droid no matter how closely it came to resembling one creature or another. If nothing else, his borderline religious study of the ancient practitioners of Mechu-Deru gave him that much insight. With that insight came a deep understanding for the inner workings of droids. Was he an engineer? Not in the sense he held any formal study. But he did know what made a battle droid good and what would make it incompetent.

He spared no criticism.

"So, essentially what you've done here is taken a gaggle of outdated droids... And crammed them into similarly outdated armor." Adekos itched at the back of his neck. "I hope you're not spending government money on this. What's with the names? Don't tell me you're getting that sentimental already."

Perhaps he shouldn't have been one to talk in regards to getting sentimental towards droids. Considering... Well, that wasn't necessarily relevant.

Onyx turned to his counterpart and shrugged. "The names are just to make them seem more organic," he explained. He examined them some more and nodded. "Government money is expendable if it produces results." He turned and walked away from the group until he neared a the drop-off into a canyon. He eyed down into the canyon and, vaguely, could make out a small settlement. He smirked and turned to the group once more. "To test the infiltration abilities these new droids have," he explained, "We will infiltrate a nearby Tusken Raider camp and kill them all without being detected."

Adekos huffed. "Then for your sake, let's hope there's results. But I won't be holding my breath." Adekos lingered in front of the droids for a moment, inspecting them more closely. Why they needed to look organic was beyond him. Droids were generally superior soldiers to the common rank-and-file humanoids fielded by most governments. Perhaps it was so that people underestimated them. Another element of surprise. But if these were to be infiltration droids, no one would be seeing them anyway. Apparently they were going to ransack a little nest of Tusken Raiders. A fair target- Adekos had no love for tribals or savages, though he did have other concerns. The Sithling briefly cast his gaze upward, as if to check if the sun was still hanging in the sky.

Surely they weren't intending to launch a serious infiltration in broad daylight. Never mind that, there were more pressing questions.

"These droids don't exactly look the subtle types. I trust they have the equipment to accommodate this mission? Stealth generators? Sound dampeners?"
