Location: The Blue Flame
Timeframe: a bustling Friday evening
This carefully curated menu of fun objectives is brought to you by the proprietor himself. Feel free to join in one, combine several, and use this sandbox at your whimsy. NPCs are also available for interaction. Enjoy the evening! Please note: while the proprietor does not demand his patrons leave their weapons at the door, all violent action is strictly prohibited and will result in immediate expulsion from the establishment. Thank you for your understanding.

In the Bar

The Shtööhb beer company has partnered with Blue Flame to bring its patrons a variety of brews directly from the company's stores. The first one is on the house thanks to the partnership. Any minors in attendance will receive a free fizzpop of their choice in flavor in lieu of the free beer. Grab a drink by yourself or with friends and chill at the bar or surrounding tables, each fitted with holoprojectors. Snack on some delectable bar bites. Enjoy the live entertainment of solo artist Nuja Bes. Maybe dance the night away? The tops of the towers are the limit here in this happening zone.

In the Dining Room

Specials for the evening include barbecued brine-eel served with fresh greens topped with crispy, fried cloudberry bursts and a grilled caraboose steak in a grotberry sauce with Dantoonian tubers and ootoowergs. The soup is basa root in an arkanian sweet milk broth. Sit down and enjoy a nice meal with a friend or two or a few in this more intimate section of the tavern.

Post an Advertisement/Find a Job, Crew, or place to stay

As always, the Blue Flame is a place where those looking for something can find that something. Whether you're hiring, hoping to sell or buy, seeking employment, whatever your needs may be a holoboard is setup for just that reason. On a Friday night, it's common to find those posting on the board among the patrons of the tavern.

Back Room - High Stakes Sabaac

The proprietor is unaware of any illegal gambling that may, or may not, take place in his establishment. He does, however, rent out his private conference rooms to any who might have a use for them. Any games held there are entirely self-moderated. Feeling lucky? Risk not only your credits and assets but also Corporate Authority of Denon retribution should a game be discovered.

The proprietor cannot plan for every scenario, and is fully aware that his patrons may seek out other alternative forms of entertainment or perhaps bring some with them. He asks only that patrons be mindful and respectful to everyone, patrons and staff alike.

The lunch rush had come and gone. A few stragglers still milled about the lounge area of the bar. They all knew that there would be a free drink in it for them if they stuck around until night fell. Adverts highlighting the event had been sent out all over the planet and through various HoloNet relays as well. The turnout was expected to be moderately high, at least that was what Shtööhb hoped. At one time, the company's name was eponymous with their only offering. But that had been generations ago. Now, the brewers hoped that they could build the name into a brand. What better place to start than a relatively popular bar on Denon, the second most populous ecumenopolis in the galaxy. The proprietor wasn't too concerned about the press for the event or any level of success. He just hoped for a good night, with smiles on faces, food in bellies, good tunes, and plenty of laughs.

Shenn and his staff were ready. All hands were on deck for what could be a busy night. The musician was set up and his sound check was complete. The ale casks were all tapped and ready to flow. Mouth-watering smells were emanating from the direction of the kitchen and filling the air with an irresistible aroma. The owner calmly paced about the floor, ticking down the minutes and seconds before...

The tavern was open for business.

Because the goings-on in Bryn'adul-land caused a lot of relocation in the wake of their genocidal rampage, VPN's forensic auditing line of service seemed to receive a lot of business from clients complaining they got scammed by people claiming to be refugees. It was more of the "fraudulent charity" kind of thing, rather than mortgage frauds she investigated on before the CNO suffered defeats to the hands of the OPA. Plus she feels that tackling the Bryn'adul personally on the front lines was risky at best, based on information from veterans of Kesh or Nadiem. One such trail led Griet to Denon, and she was waiting for one of those suspects to meet with her in the Blue Flame, posing as a donor. Many of the people in forensic audit would have to be ready and willing to meet with less-than-reputable people inside locations such as the Blue Flame, which wasn't done much in traditional assurance unless the owners of these establishments were themselves clients. For now, she needs to act as if she was there on courtesy for one of these administrators from one of those fraudulent charities, and offer food and drink to that person, a Kubaz if the information is correct.

Alejandro, a tall athletically built man wearing fine tailored clothing, a brilliantly tooled black gunbelt with a blacked nerf leather holster housing his prized Westar-81 blaster pistol, walked through the main doors of the Blue Flame with a stride of a dangerous but elegant gentlemen. Was a little early for his tastes but he had nothing else to do with his time. After leaving Coruscant in his wake, hopefully for good, he didn't believe he would find himself on another ecumenopolis world. Ten years in prison made him anxious for the vast openness of the endless dunes on Tatooine. These rat cages of city worlds were to claustrophobic for his likings but he had to clean up some unfinished business before going home. An old associate of his needed some attention, had been holding Alejandro's share of the very bank heist he was put away for. Lets just say after some hard "negotiations", Alejandro was able to recover a portion of what was owed and now he was flush enough with credits to make is temporary stay on Denon comfortable. Can't say the same for his old associate as his forever home was the trash compactor of his tenant block.

Settling an old score, getting a healthy sum of credits had put the infamous Gunfighter from tatooine in a good mood. The hopes was the Blue Flame was to further that progress with drink, games and possible companionship. The tavern was not hopping yet, only a few patrons with in. This gave Alejandro time to get a lay of the land, see who the hustlers, players and whales were as they came in. Getting a pulse early was smart. He made his way to the bar, making eye contact with bartender as he sat on the stool.

"Whiskey, top shelf if you please!"

"Welcome to Denon. Before we discuss any specifics regarding a potential large donation, the first drink is on the house, and we pay for the food, too" Griet greeted the Kubaz guest that, at this point, didn't suspect anything.

"What will it be for you?" Cichei asked the two of them.

"One Antakarian Fire Dancer, please" the Kubaz requested. "And a barbecued brine-eel"

"One Merenzane Gold, and a well-done caraboose steak"

Given the long list of possible drinks, she was tempted by the Mind Eraser, but was afraid that the Mind Eraser would cause lasting neurological damage, which, to a Neural Storm practitioner, was going to be problematic. So Griet settled on a Merenzane Gold instead. It made sense for Griet to drink the most expensive booze she planned on drinking first, but she knew all the better that she shouldn't go straight to the point at the beginning as she usually would in a statutory assurance engagement. And not just because, in a statutory audit, even though the auditees often treated the auditors as parasites, the auditees knew what the scope of the engagement was. In a forensic audit, the auditee would not necessarily know that the auditors were on their trail. And thus gaining the auditee's trust was different in that case. Here she could feel the auditee would have something to hide, such as poor oversight over donations on a KYC level. But before the food and drinks arrived...

"These... Brynadul monsters! They killed so many on Kubindi, and we fled all the way here, and it's only now that some resistance is forming!"

Now, this was a rarity - being served food on a plate at a quite fancy restaurant. The most common for her was rations and portions on the go from one system to another, occasionally she ended up grabbing a better bite. Lite the one at the Ostara Festival. The place was not too fancy for her to fit in with her light denim jacket and navy and white top under it, wearing darker denim trousers and a pair of dark sneakers further down. Still, he felt like she stood out a bit. Her inexperience of meeting peaople at such places could definately have been a part of it.

The barbequed brine-eel were placed in front of her along with the accompaniments of the dish. Her blue eyes exchanged an uncertain but thankful gaze with the waiter.

''And for the main course, a Shtööbh and Blue Flame collaboration of beer. First one is on the house, miss.'' the waiter said shortly as another customer wanted his attention.

''But-''

The waiter were already engaged with the other customer. A deep with left her as her gaze again fell on the tall glass with beer that was served to her. It was not that she had not tried it before, she weren't a child anymore, but you could prefer other drinks to your meal right? Brie pulled a strand of hair from her face and grabbed the knife and fork and started cutting in the brine-eel. But what if you wanted an alcohol free drink to your meal? The first bite was actually delicious, but called for a sip of the beer soon afterwards. Everyone seemed to mind their own business and did not think so much about her sitting alone in a booth and enjoying her meal.

"Hey, Meeno, two Meltdowns with a Shtööhb chaser," Daiya chirped, leaning against the bar at far below the Muun's eye level. The regulars to either side of her ignored the teen girl, she was familiar enough that they barely bat an eye at her presence there. She put all her attention on the bartender, who was giving her a look that the girl was all too familiar with herself. "It's for Tawrro, obviously," she rolled her eyes at the Muun, as if he even had to ask. "He has some new lady friend he's trying to impress. Don't ask me, I think he's hopeless in the romance department."

This was much easier when Cichei was working the bar, the Devaronian waitress had a soft spot for Daiya, and the girl was all too happy to use it to her advantage.

Meeno wasn't as keen on sneaking alcohol to her, especially if he thought that Shenn was nearby. The blonde-haired girl wasn't watching him, but she knew the wizened proprietor was patrolling the lounge floor, hands clasped behind his back, surveying his surroundings while making jovial conversation with his patrons from time to time. She didn't even have to look by now, "He's got another 4 minutes before he heads this way, Telo Jax was right in his path when I walked up here."

Daiya also might have helped a larger party pull some tables together across Shenn's normal route a half hour ago or so, a purely altruistic move.

The girl wasn't keen on the night's big event, the larger crowds Shenn and his sponsor were hoping to draw made some of the more cautious types leery of showing up, the non-regulars that provided the bulk of her information and jobs. She couldn't rely on Tawrro for everything, after all. Still, the event was sure to bring in different patrons than usual, and perhaps even a few willing to spill some secrets or offer work after a couple drinks of the cheap swill Shtööhb made. The possibilities for the night were endless.

If only Meeno understood that. His arms clasped in front of him in a rare dereliction of his cleaning duties, considering Daiya with a look that made her feel even smaller than she was. Then he inclined his long head towards the rear of the Krill-shaped bar counter, to the opening that led behind it to the hallway used by the kitchen and waitstaff. Daiya quickly ducked out from between the regulars, moving quickly around to the backside of the bar, adopting the favorite leaning spot Cichei used when she wanted a little break from the front of house.

"That's it, just one?" the girl asked in a low voice, dubiously considering the single glass held out to her by the Muun bartender. He started to pull back his offering, prompting her to throw out a hand on top of his grey wrist to stop him. "No, no, I'm not trying to be inconsiderate, Meeno," she said, offering the man a beaming smile as she took the drink fully into her hands. "Thanks!"

He turned back before she could pay him, but Daiya wasn't worried. She'd settle the account tomorrow, or just make sure that the bartender had some extra credits in his tip jar by the end of the night. In the meantime she gave the drink a cautious sip, feeling her face fall as her eyes rolled at the distinct taste of the fruity concoction. "Really, Meeno?" the girl muttered to herself, stepping back out into the bar room to make her way back through the crowded establishment. "A Sonic Screwdriver? I asked for a Meltdown, it's not even that strong!"

The girl didn't dally long with her grumbling, making sure to slip out of the busy area before Shenn caught sight of her illicit drink. Tawrro was gone by the time she got back to their customary spot, with its undulating orange couch and few enough customers that she could still claim room to throw up her legs on the leathery cushions. Daiya leaned back into the gentlest curve of the couch, throwing an arm over the back of it while she took another sip. She couldn't lie to herself, the drink was good, and its sweet flavor covered the bite of the liquor pretty well. It would pass the sniff test, too, if Tawrro happened to come back before she was done with it.

The thought of her Wookiee guardian gave her a moment to sweep the room with her eyes, a favorite pastime of his in the Blue Flame. The girl giggled at the measure, she felt silly just staring at people from afar, even if it did give her a good overview of the crowd around her. She spied another patron, a girl only a bit older than her, eating alone at a table nearby. It was easy to abandon her vantage point and slide into the cushioned seat next to the newcomer.

"I don't know how anyone can drink that stuff," Daiya remarked by way of greeting. The drink already seemed to be doing its job, the girl could feel a bubbling mirth inside her, bringing a broad grin to her face and a giggle to her lips. "I'm Daiya," she offered, and set down her half-empty drink close to the beer, "And you should try this one instead."

When the fellow girl slid down beside her in the booth, Brie hid her surprise by finishing a bite of the brine-eel. The times being approached by a random stranger, and in such a carefree and open way was easily counted. The girl was given a side-eye glance and a slightly raised eyebrow, before the glance was directed at the beer in front of her.

''Well... I didn't ask for it.'' she replied, her usually reserved approach to strangers slowly starting to fall. Brie put the utensils down, and silently guessed the girl to be a few cycles younger than herself. Not much, though. They could be of the same age. It could just be a matter of features, realy. They could even have been school mates, if she had attended to any that was. Anyhow, the mirthful girl left a solid first impression as to be friendly. Something that was fairly hard to achieve with Brie. Rajo would know, that guy from Coruscant. Even if they had met under vastly different circumstances.

''I'm Brie.'' she said and offered a small friendly smile to the girl, before continuing curiously with a nod to Daiya's drink. ''What is it?''

Daiya Daiya

As Meeno Potere, bartender:

Meeno was pretty sure that Shtööhb wasn't going to be a big hit. But then, the quality wasn't the concern. People had their likes and dislikes. Some might enjoy trying something new. But most had their standards; defaults that, were Meeno a betting man, he could take to the bank. He knew the regulars. Some he let order because they liked to speak their requests out loud. Others he had a glass on the bar before they even said a word.

But Shtööhb? No one asked for Shtööhb.

He nodded to the man ( Alejandro Bodua Alejandro Bodua ) who ordered some top-shelf whiskey. Shenn had gotten some excellently refined Ithorian Mist for that kooky biologist friend of his that hung out in the basement. Meeno wasn't sure why, since he'd never seen the Ithorian touch his native drink, or alcohol of any kind for that matter. But if the crackpot wasn't going to drink the stuff, might as well serve it to the clientele. With a subtle slight-of-hand, a glass appeared on the counter in front of the mustachioed man and a cool, beige liquid followed out from a bottle held ever-so-aloft. Another subtle flip and the bottle was back on the shelf behind the bar and Meeno was off to the next client...

The girl. Daiya Daiya . Meeno knew the kid was lying through her teeth. But then she would find another way to get what she wanted if he didn't make some kind of concession. So he made her something sweet and fruity. That Wookiee of hers might come sniffing but the lumbering lunk knew better than to grumble at the Muun. After all, who else was going to make the Wookiee his own drink? The girl ran off, drink in hand. He watched her go, as she did, Meeno's eyes locked for a brief blissful moment with Nam's eyes. She gave him a knowing smirk and a condescending shake of her head. If the Muun could blush he would have, and he momentarily regretted giving in to Daiya. How could he be a parent if he made concessions like that? Sure, Nam's kid was a twenty-something. But still.

And then Daiya ran past Nam too, and the woman didn't stop her. The Muun pondered that as he idly scrubbed another glass. He had a lot to learn.

"Sonpa!" The Tatooinian thanked the bartender before he moved on to his next customer. Alejandro stared at his glass of quality whiskey as if his eyes had finally rested upon a long love. A decade of stomaching jailhouse brew, also known as toilet bowl wine, would do that to a man. Made him appreciate the simple delicacies of life. He slowly lifted the cup to his lips, taking his time to enjoy his first sip, rolling Ithorian Mist around his tongue and letting it burn as it drizzled to the back of his dry throat. "Been too long!" he gruffly said to himself with a satisfied smile beneath his mustachios. Alejandro then skulled the rest in a single gulp, tapping the empty glass on the bar for a refill.

"Another my good man!" He noticed a young woman and child sitting at a table. There was a wookie not that far from the girl, obviously some kind of guardian the way it watched the room and studied everyone and everything. The young woman was his main focus for the moment, he had been in prison for a long time and whiskey was not all he wished to catch up on. Though, he is a decade out of practice and a paid companion might be the more achievable.

Alejandro diverted his attention back to his empty cup and pending arrival of the barkeep. Didn't want to give off the notion he was creeping by leering at her as if she was some piece of meat. May be out of practice but he still knew the game and no one liked a older pervert staring at them. Though he had kept his body in shape with rigorous workouts with in his cell and access of the prison's gym. His age was now a factor and charm was a tool he was going to have to rely more heavily on that he had before. If all else fails, there were other female targets to be had, excluding the wookie. He wasn't that desperate yet.

The Anzat had been working various odd jobs to support a living. Being fatigued, and requiring a day off, he decided the best way any to recharge his batteries was by going to a tavern.

He had never, or at least he could not remember being in Denon. Even in his previous life, he had never heard, nor cared for the planet. Yet, here he was: having finished a contract, the Anzat entered the tavern. Aedan keenly observed his surroundings: it seemed everyone from all walks of the underworld had come here for their own business, or to hang out, and he would do the same.

Wishing to hide his force sensitivity, he had with him a Taozin amulet covered in a Terentatek hide. Having gone from an assassin and bounty hunter, to a former Sith, and general, he knew that past enemies always lurked by, and he had no desire to have anyone be able to sense his force sensitivity. He made sure to hide his signature in order not to be sensed, for Taozin amulets could only do so much.

"Grab me one, will ya?"

A drink was then prepared for him, as he smiled, his posture completely open to show he was open to anyone that wanted a conversation

She stood in the doorway, a habit she had that she wasn't ready to break. She stepped inside looking around from what she could focus on there wasn't anyone in here that she knew. Good.

The last bar on Coruscant she went into she asked for....well...she asked for something. She moved to the bar watching the guy move from customer to customer. She being a bar owner herself she felt she could spot a good one within a few minutes. Someone sat next to her she looked over.

She smiled, she could still have some fun looking at the guy who sat down, "Hey, What's the best joke you've heard today"

He turned looking at her, she was average looking, brown hair green eyes, nice figure an dressed in comfortable clothes. She wasn't the high heel type, or the slinky dress type. Though there were those that had been present at such rare occasion when she did slip into something. But she was digressing from her intent.

He shook his head, "My kid told me one before I left the house where do gungans store their fruit preserves?"

She actually found herself thinking about it shrugging, "where"

"Jar jars"

She laughed she just couldn't help herself, "that's good. Damn, I owe you drink for that one, and whatever you like I'll try" It was an ice breaker because the few folks around her got closer.

"My niece told one...how do you unlock doors on Kashyyyk?" He looked at the little group, "with a woo-kie"

This was fun.

Daiya giggled again at the older girl's confession, nearly rolling her eyes at the circumstance. The Blue Flame was pushing their promotion pretty hard tonight and, if the packed house was any indication, it was working. She almost felt bad for the mass of patrons being introduced to the...whatever Shtööhb was. Giving her glass another encouraging nudge towards the occupant of the table, who had introduced herself as Brie, the girl explained, "It's a Sonic Screwdriver. It's really good, way better than that...stuff."

As if to illustrate her point, but more out of curiosity herself, the teem grabbed the tall glass of beer and brought it under her nose for an exploratory sniff. The beverage's fermentation bubbles popped on its surface, giving off an aroma not unlike that of bread. It smelled like something she'd rather eat than drink, and Daiya's nose offered its reaction to it gladly. The disgusted expression spread to the rest of her face, shaking her head as she replaced the glass on the table again.

"I'm Daiya," she offered her new companion, and nudged her glass closer still in lieu of extending a customary hand. The girl relaxed in her new seat, letting the music and the ambiance of the crowd wash over her, but kept her focus on Brie. The older girl had stopped eating, and seemed to be trying to size her up. Daiya had enough foresight not to giggle again, a momentary reflex that made her regret offering up her drink. There was only one real solution to that problem. "Mind if I try yours?"

Without waiting for an answer, the girl reached across the table again to pick up the beer glass. If it weren't uncouth, she even might have plugged her nose before tipping it up against her lips and letting the bubbly swill slip down past her mouth. It wasn't the greatest flavor in the world, and the fizziness felt...wrong somehow. She didn't care at the moment, it was a quick shortcut to the point of evening. Her point, anyway.

A pair of eyebrows danced above her brow for a moment as Daiya set down the drink again, her mouth twisted into a reluctant sort of amusement as she considered the taste. "Well, it's not as bad as I thought it would be. She slid the beer glass back over to Brie, hoping the other teen would choose her cocktail instead. "So what brings you to this part of town?" she asked, looking over Brie once more. The older girl's demeanor and reticence made her seem an unlikely sort to grace the halls of this tavern. "Don't get me wrong, but this doesn't really seem like your kind of crowd."

With a gesture towards the beer, the girl added, "And you obviously didn't come for that."

Outfit

If Chloe was being honest, it was moments like this where she was the happiest. An old transport hung from the supports, and she was deep in it’s guts, grease covered her face and overalls. Her blond hair was tied back in a bun and in a hairnet to stop the grease from soaking it. This part went here, these wires crossed there. This junction was bad, she replaced it, and made basic progress that took the workload off the more experienced specialists in the Scrap Yard Outlaws. This transport was to be used for smuggling, and they expanded its abilities. The pay was good, probably a hutt, but who honestly cared? The challenge was to fix all the things wrong, then find a way to FIT everything in anti-sensor panels in the walls. It was fun. However, it never lasted long enough!

As she moved to clean herself off, she chatted with the others and gave them the biggest grin. They had never become her family, but they had given her a place, a purpose. It was their kindness however, that also caused her more pain. Life was funny that way. After she had washed the grim and grease from her hands and off her face, she moved towards the exit of the workshop only to see Tshaak yelling at the boss. The twi’lek was well dressed, that karking loan shark.

“You are beginning to run behind on paying off the interest! I don’t think the Corporate Authority will be happy to find out about all this. You need to keep UP, or just sell it all.” The male’s voice was guttural and Chloe instinctively took a step back, her heart skipped a beat. The girl grit her teeth and moved towards the exit. As she passed by, the twi’lek’s hand reached out and grabbed her hand. “Or...Chloe, have you given my proposal more thought, Keela? I will happily make all of this disappear. And you would never want for anything again, you wouldn’t have to work in such a filthy place as this…” The girl wrenched her hand away from the male and gave him a glare. Beauty was such a pain. However, he was important, and controlled the future of her friends. She just shook her head and without a word moved out. She walked through the junk yard, her eyes scanned the piles for anything new or interesting. Everyone told her Tshaak took care of things, he didn’t just throw people away when it suited him. That if she accepted his offer she was set for life. But...it just didn’t sit well. It’s what they always had said, and it had never been true before.

She ducked through the gate and headed across a foot bridge to the apartment complex where the Outlaws lived. As she ducked into her apartment, the girl locked the door securely behind her. Chloe stripped off the dirty overalls, let her hair down, and preened herself for a while. As much of a pain as it was, she still felt SOME pride. There was some looking through the closet as the teen attempted to find a good outfit. Almost randomly she pulled one out, and changed.

It wasn’t long before she grabbed her headphones, glasses, and little pocket computer. Her life needed a bit of magic in it. As soon as the music played, the girl took a deep breath and allowed the stress to sink out. She had this, she could do this.

As she walked down the duracrete walkways, hopped aboard the hover buses, and generally made her way through this part of the endless city, her head bobbed in time to the music. At various places, she typed out commands on the datapad like computer. The programs had been set up far in advance, they siphoned small amounts of credits out of the accounts of the stupid who made purchases over unsecured channels, as well as collected all those little rounded off credits that just disapeared during each transaction. Simple stuff, but it helped keep the Outlaws with their heads above the water, her own as well.

Her eyes glanced at the data in front of her eyes. It transmitted so much data, most of it was just ignored, only a small fraction was sent to the servers for later retrieval so it could be sold to the data miners. She made her way towards a small little bar and restaurant she knew, it was a place away from the junk yards, away from the hustle and bustle. Good food, not the greatest music, but that was okay.

She pushed the doors open and slid inside the Blue Flame. Her glasses came off, and were placed in a carrying case. Chloe’s computer was turned to silent mode and the girl slid into one of the seats at the bar. Her bright sky blue eyes stared at the muun that served the drinks. Eyes were narrowed playfully, and she gave him a brilliant smile. It was still hard to interact with people, but she tried. “Heya, just some water. Oh, and how about a bowl of nerf chowder, huh?” Small hands reached into her pockets and pulled out the appropriate credit chits.

Her eyes landed on the lady, Rekha Kaarde Rekha Kaarde and grinned as they told jokes. “Only one I got is ‘what did the specter of the jedi warrior say to the bartender?’” Those large blue eyes sparkled, as she hoped to spark up some conversation. It was a long shot...but, hey, you never knew until you tried! "Bring me a beer....and a mop."

"Bryn'adul. It's only because of displaced populations that we were able to get the resistance ball rolling"

Often auditors offered to audit charities for free, in exchange of which the firm gets tax receipts for the value of the engagement once the bill has been confirmed. For the purposes of the tax receipts, each staff member that worked on the engagement will receive a tax receipt for the value of the hours worked on the client. It's perhaps the best practice because those who should benefit from the donation should also have worked on their audit, review or even compilation. It's not like some jurisdictions where the value of such donations in partnerships must be apportioned among the partners. As the two of them ate their meal, it seemed that the Kubaz picked up on Griet being some accountant, but not on the actual nature of her accounting duties, for some reason. Just that she knew that many outside of management would be led to believe that accounting was about taxation, even though the truth was that accountants came in many areas of specialty, and taxation was just one such specialty, albeit the most visible one to the general public.

"Can you do our tax returns? We have realized that some jurisdictions ask for charities to file tax returns to ensure they remain qualified as charities"

"Tax returns are usually best left to accountants that know the jurisdiction's tax rules. Standards on assurance engagements tend to vary less from a jurisdiction to another, these being audits, reviews, or special engagements at either assurance level, with audits being reasonable assurance up to a certain margin of error called materiality, and reviews being instead assurance that the financial statements aren't misleading, which is usually more limited. Even though it's not technically an assurance engagement, a compilation is usually performed by assurance practitioners"

"Surely we only need a... compilation, whereby we have you prepare the financial statements, and tax authorities tend to be OK, for registered charities, with compilations"

"With a compilation, you only get that, and no assurance that the financial statements be accurate in any shape or form. Now I understand that some clients, and in fact, most of the compilation clients we have often tend to think that a notice to reader issued by a duly accredited CPA provides assurance of such, and the same of donors, but you may never know what donors come from jurisdictions where sufficiently large donations require audits or even reviews, and also that an audit or review would allow us to make recommendations to improve the operational processes and financial controls in a way a compilation would not"

The drink looked in fact delicious. Fruity and inviting. Way more so than the beer or whatever it now was that had been pushed on her by the house. Stuff, as the girl apparently named Daiya choosed to call it. Brie gave the drink another good look.

''Sonic... Screwdriver...''

She repeated the name of the drink, exploring how the name laid across her tounge and pondered about what she would expect in the way of taste if she tried it. Instinctively, her tounge decided to give the lips a small lick in response to the sweet thoughts. Alright then! Daiya didn't have to convince her further, she thought and grabbed the glass with a hand and then gave it a short sniff and a sip. A slightly wider smile spread on her lips as her tastebuds pleasantly confirmed that it did taste as she had thought, possibly even better!

Before she knew it or could respond to Daiya's question to try the beer, the younger girl had already grabbed it and had it turned upside-down against her lips for a respectable drink even worthy an adult. The small girls unstinted and straight forward demeanor was fun to see and lured forth a giggle from Brie.

''No no, be my guest!'' she said amusedly, way to late for her to have any choice in the matter. Daiya had already sniffed, tasted and rated the beverage.

Their gazes met for a moment when Daiya slid the beer back over the table. Even if she didn't say it out loud, it was clear that she wanted a trade. ''You can have it... If I get yours?'' Brie said an nodded her approval of their little business.

''Oh... It's just a stop...'' she started to tell the younger girl. One of many stops when making a living as a salvager. ''I'm passing by and are headed to the core worlds to sell stuff.'' she stopped for a second, pondering on how much she would tell the younger girl. She weren't doing any illegal stuff. Not much anyways, so what hurt could it do to open up a bit more than she were used to? ''I'm a salvager. Some space folks were talking about the place, and I decided to give it a try. Besides, I was starving...'' she finished with a coy and smug grin on her lips, giving the half finished plate a glance.

''What about you? That's your wookie friend over there?'' Brie said and nodded over to the wookie she had noticed during their conversation, a couple of booths back.

Rekha looked over to Chloe Santhe Chloe Santhe , "I get it, that's good one." She hadn't heard the order for the chowder, but, "Care for beer?" She smiled the others around her were chuckling over the jokes being shared.

In a galaxy where stepping outside of where you slept might be the last time you get to do it, it was good to tell a few jokes and remember that there were days that were every day normal. She smiled some more looking to the group around her, "I'm Rekha what's everyone's else name" She remembered to that she owed drinks.

She would make sure she knew the names and got them the drinks owed.

Spacers everywhere. Yeah this was good.

In truth, Daiya was probably being a rude guest. Tawrro would have said something about her manners, probably. Even if he was acting as rude and crass as some other spacer, somehow she was expected to be a perfect little girl. Poodoo on that. It wasn't rude to relieve her new friend of a bad drink, now was it? She gave Brie a smile as the older girl graciously let her new tablemate switch drinks, and remarked, "You can have the screwdriver as long as you order the next round. Say, a Meltdown and then whatever you're having?"

The next round. The teen felt far too grown up saying that, and it brought a broader grin to her face as she took another drink of the beer, trying not to blanch at the drink's harsh bite.

So Brie was into salvage, the girl took note. A spacer, then. Denon got plenty of spacers, and the Blue Flame was a frequent haunt for them. No wonder Brie looked out of place, though, an offworlder like her was probably used to flat ground and too many plants on worlds she visited. Daiya chuckled at the thought, and then at Brie's compliment of the Screwdriver. "Yeah, see? Way better than the Shtööööhb," she said, playing with the vowels in the drink's name with a heightened sense of glee. This was her kind of Friday night! "Some Shtööööhb and good gruuuuuub, yep that's the ticket."

What about her? Daiya might have told the girl, Brie, about how great a shot she was. About the many adventures she and Tawrro had been on. Maybe she was even willing to mention her...special talents. The drink was certainly loosening her tongue enough. But at the mention of a Wookiee, she felt sober once more. The girl jerked her head to the side, spying Tawrro ignoring a conversation at his booth to watch her instead. "Oh feth," she muttered reflexively, trying to lean back into the cushion of her seat as if it could hide her from sight. "Quick, take a drink of the beer, it's yours again now. If anyone asks, I was drinking fruit punch."

Pursing her mouth, Brie gave the suggestion from the other girl a good thought. She were far from a wealthy person. It was uncommon, but now and then you would stumble upon that treasure that would give you the credits to last for a while, before you had to go on another salvaging trip. That said, today was one of those days and no one could ever call her avaricious.

Her gaze were then drawn to the menu in the middle of the table. She reached over her plate and grabbed it.

She were just about to read through the deserts, when Daiya suddenly pushed the beer over again and hastily leant back in the booth. A slightly confused face spread on Brie, and her head turned from the Daiya to the wookie and back again, before she realised why the younger girl was acting like that. She were sneaking and trying to hide her drinking, of course. She kept herself from smiling, but instead and with the utmost seriousness played along the best as she could. They had not exactly killed anyone, had they? For an outsider, it might have looked hilarious, as neither of them could be accused to be blinding actors. To hell with it if you didn't try, though.

Some time of awkward silence passed. Brie looked at the now two glasses in front of her before side-eyeing Daiya. It felt like they both had commited a serious crime or something, and it dawned upon Brie how ridiculous that feeling was. She tried to fight it, but the situation was simply too over the top and it got her to burst out in an amused laugh. After containing herself some, she picked up the earlier dropped menu again and held it up so it acted as a natural shield between them and the general area of the wookie. With that move, she also hopped a seat closer to Daiya and reached for the both drinks.

''Alright - a Meltdown? I'm still peckish for something... But there's so many dishes to choose from...'' she said while reading through the menu, spotting the different kinds of cheese plates in the desert section. ''Cheese... You like cheese? Or some of this chocolate ice cream... Or both?''

"Could you please give me an example of exactly what value an audit is adding to the auditee, beyond the additional assurance on the financials? I feel an audit is not giving us any added value over a compilation"

"In a typical compilation we just take the financial data, establish a trial balance, and also use the balance sheet as of the last year-end, and then get a set of financial statements, with inquiry only when the information could be questionable. In a review we also review the procedures for recording transactions, such as recognizing revenue, and in an audit we go in much greater depth for identifying weaknesses in internal controls or inefficiencies in processes that could lead to material misstatements or cost leaks. Often auditing will provide risk advisory as well"

However, few frauds are actually detected in statutory external audits. Often frauds are detected by insider tipping, and then management takes action and engages forensic auditors, especially in the absence of an internal audit function. Risk advisory is usually permitted by auditors to the extent that the recommendations aren't binding. That's why some internal/external auditors that go into advisory at later stages of their careers often go the risk advisory route, although others also go transactional advisory, especially if the auditor is used to operating in terms of consolidated audits. Just that highlighting the added value is often key when putting the option of increasing the level of assurance - most prospective clients that shop for financial statement services would just take the lowest level of assurance their situation allows for. That usually meant a compilation for small clients, or reviews when one starts taking out somewhat large loans, with audits being usually reserved for entities that plan to become publicly traded, or already are, operate in jurisdictions (or industries) with more stringent regulations, NFPOs that receive large donations from donors in stringent jurisdictions or themselves operate out of such, but a few of them end up overspending on accounting services because they are misled by the promise of added value at each level of assurance.

"What I'm willing to do is that, because you're starting out, we'll get an audit done for free as an introductory offer, and, once the engagement ends, we'll forward you the manifest of the staff that worked on the engagement, as well as their charge-out rates, and then issue donation tax receipts in the charge-out amounts to each of them. For future years, depending on the donation and regulatory landscapes, we could go the review, or even compilation, route"

For a while, Daiya said nothing, just willing herself to be small. Her breath caught in her chest, as if holding it would keep her from being noticed. She could barely see Tawrro out of the corner of her eye, he was making conversation with his table again, seemingly ignoring her. Why wasn't he coming over to say something? The first time he'd caught her trying alcohol was fierce, and the girl felt like she'd experienced as close to a Wookiee rage as he'd ever throw at her. It was mild considering what she had seen in him against enemies, but that didn't mean she wasn't terrified at the time.

Her body held tense, waiting for Tawrro to shift his focus. He never did, and her confused only grew as she spied him settling back into the booth seat as he did when he was comfortable. If he wasn't getting up to come over, then Daiya was left wondering why he had been so focused on staring at her. Her mind raced as the minutes passed, feeling her heart thumping in her chest so hard that it must have been deafening to Brie.

To her surprise, the older teen slid closer to her, propping up a menu as a screen against the outside world. It became just Brie and Daiya, two girls just enjoying their Friday night out, without a care of how they were being judged. The girl gave her new friend a cautious glance, it was feeling a little easier to breath already. Once, after a moment, she realized that Brie was willing to back her up, Daiya managed a little smile as she took a look at the menu.

The older girl was saying something about cheeses. And ice cream? She was definitely going to need a stronger drink for that combination!

"Oh, if you want ice cream, let's skip the chocolate and cheese," Daiya suggested, her face bubbling with renewed excitement again as she leaned forward towards the table and Brie. The screen was doing its job, it seemed, making it easier to ignore the presence of her de-facto guardian. "I'll take you to meet Tel, he's the Blue Flame's chef, and does an a-mazing job at desserts! There's one he makes for me that...oh, you'll just have to try it to understand."

Daiya beckoned to Brie, motioning her new friend to follow as she stood up from the table, her focus stolen completely to the idea of dessert. There was no use waiting for a server to order from, the only good way to get the Ortolan's special treats was to talk to him directly. She would happily lead the older teen back to the kitchen, directly to where the magic happened, and ask Tel to make that dessert she loved.
