A Night in "Paradise"
On the planet Mandalore at nightfall, a ball has been thrown to celebrate the summer solstice. It was a masquerade and all of the most important individuals were in attendance.
tumblr_inline_o1vdc31W511sz2twe_540.jpg

Eladia stood at the entrance of the masquerade ball, she wore a full length sapphire gown, a silver mask, and heels that made it almost impossible to walk. There was an orchestra inside playing beautifully melodious music, people laughing and dancing, and the most exquisite sights and smells teased her senses. But she wasn't here to enjoy the party, Eladia was here to steal a piece of artwork for a client that really shouldn't be kept waiting very long, that is, if you would like to keep all four limbs.

"Well, here goes nothing," Eladia thought as she entered the building. Once inside she quickly climbed a staircase to her right to get a better vantage point. From above she could see the party in its entirety. Women in foofy dresses flirted with the rich business men, waiters rushed alcoholic drinks to people who really didn't need another drink, and security roamed through the hordes of people making sure the event went along smoothly.

Eladia's instructions were to find the study that belonged to the host of this party. It wasn't difficult to find, it was a room a floor above her with four security guards posted in front of it. Suddenly she heard the clink clink clink of a fork against a glass. It was a burly man standing on a stage across the hall preparing to make a speech, "Ladies and gentleman..." he started.

"And that is my cue," Eladia thought. She turned around and made her way to the balcony behind her. Once outside she could that there was an identical balcony above that connected to the study. She retrieved a grappling hook and rope from her clutch and started her ascent.

Desmond had run into a stroke of bad luck recently with a loan shark and needed to make some extra cash. Fast. So he decided to try his hand as a ghost burglar. Some local big shot who had recently inherited a large sum of money or something was throwing a ball to celebrate. The ball provided the perfect opportunity to stake the place out. He bought a suit that would pass off as nice unless put under close scrutiny, hacked the guest list, added himself in, and for the coup de grace bought a feathered mask. He almost fit right in.

Desmond wandered the grand halls of what seemed to him like a palace. The walls were gilded in gold. Luxurious paintings adorned the corridors alongside family crest. The table clothe felt finer then silk and large bawdy chandeliers hung from the ceiling. The floors were inscribed with beautiful mosaics who's design were too sophisticated for Des's low brow taste. He approached the entrance to the ball room and was ushered in by a servant through great mahogany doors. The butler was wearing a suit more expensive than what Des would usually make in a month. Most everyone was performing some sort of waltz, the rest who weren't stuck to small groups relative to their political or business niches. Then Desmond spotted a staircase leading upwards.

According to the buildings layout plan the safe was located just a couple of stories up. He grabbed a glass of booze from a nearby waiter and knocked it back. Then he grabbed another. He made his way up the staircase case, second glass still in hand, and spotted the study room. It was under close guard and apparently off limits to the rest of the guest. He walked towards the men, a slight stumble in his step.

"You boys wouldn't happen to know where the lieu is wold y'a?" He said as he fell into the closest guard, spilling liquids all over him. He placed a I.C.E. chip on the doors lock interface and took a peak through the door window before the man could yank Des up right and away from the door. As the Chiss peered through the window he saw a most peculiar sight.

"Is that a lady wrestling a droid?" He asked aloud.

"Huh," said the guard as he began to turn to inspect the distraction.

"Er.. I said! Is that a Cryne Vasey my boy? Wonderful suits those are," Des grabbed the man by the shoulder pretending to inspect the stitching on his suit, while simultaneously trying to keep the guards attention away from the woman who was now scaling a wall with a poor innocent HK unit caught in the cross fire.

"Look pal, your drunk. Call a cab will y'a? Before we have to throw you out," The guard replied brushing Des's probing hands away.

HK came up to the edge of the balcony, staring out into the night by his lonesome as a faint sound of music would emanate from the glass screen door behind him. He was clad in ornate ceremonial Protectorate armor with his usual cloak, a sword and antique looking shattergun hanging off of his belt along with a hilt of a lightsaber. The outfit and weapons of the First Baron of Abregado, the position he was representing during the ball, and head of the Guild of Hammers. He was attending the event to meet with the host and set up a commercial foothold on Mandalore, the droid was keen on expanding his company's influences and was willing in arming the Mandalorians with weaponry to fuel their crusades.

Either way, the droid was on the balcony as the host asked him to wait in his study until he finished up a speech. That may have been news to Eladia as the droid did not gave much warning before confirming his attendance or requesting the meeting, he liked to keep the organics on their toes like that by just dropping by. However, he was getting quickly fed up with having to wait for the host while he rumbled and grumbled downstairs to entertain the other guests.

The machine turned around, his cloak swishing with his movements as he faced the door leading into the study, bent on walking out, when suddenly-

clink

There was a soft noise of a grappling hook catching onto either the balcony's edge or security railing, and it just so happened to catch the droid's cloak along with it.

BANG

Eladia could hear from the balcony as the machine was yanked back by the material of his cloak suddenly trapped by her grappling hook, loosing his footing as the fabric chocked up around his throat, pulling him back. Words would soon reach her,

"For Force's sake, not again!"

Apparently this happened to HK from time to time,

"Every fething week!"

Eladia pulled herself up slowly, beads of perspiration forming on her forehead. She could hear something going on above her but assumed it was just party goers wandering the halls inside. She had almost reached the balcony when she heard a voice above cry out. "What in the world?" She thought.

Suddenly she started to slide down when she realized her hook had caught someones cloak. Eladia was just close enough to push herself up and grab the railing, quickly she unhooked the grappling hook from the cloak and let both fall down to the ground below. She pulled herself up and over the balcony edge and landed on the floor. In one quick movement she rose up and had her blaster pointed at the person who had caused her plan to go awry.

Now that she could get a good look at him she could see that he was a droid. In her youth she had thoroughly enjoyed learning about droids, they fascinated her. This was a killer model, old, but extremely capable of terminating anything it so desired so she kept her weapon pointed at him. "State your business here, and maybe I wont blast you into pieces.

With his cloak released the droid managed to scramble to push himself up, or at least start to, he was in a somewhat kneeling position when Eladia climbed onto the balcony and had a gun pointed at him,

"State your business here, and maybe I wont blast you into pieces."

The droid stopped for a second and looked at her, then at the gun, scanning over it there wasn't anything special about it, just another plasma spitter, he looked back at Eladia and gave out what could only be described as a laughter if a fridge could laugh while spinning inside a washing machine,

"Hyah-hyah-hyah-hyah-hyah"

The noise was alien, eldritch, mechanical yet organic at the same time, an orchestra of beeps and whirs put together to form speech. Perhaps that was what the droid's true voice sounded like,

"Child, out of all beings I might be the last one you want to point a blaster at. Perhaps you would like to try again, this time there is no need to be rude."

In smooth fluid motion the droid shot out his arm in her direction, his six elongated fingers splaying out as the gauntlet clad palm came to face her.

Out of a sudden Eladia could feel some mighty pull on her pistol, the droid was on the other end of the balcony yet it was as if he could just grasp on it and try to yank it out. Could he use telekinesis? Could he bent the will of the Force? Well, no, HK was a pure droid, but he had access to gadgets like Grav Gloves which allowed him to mimic some of the Force powers. Perhaps the fact that few would expect a maneuver like that from a droid would be enough for him to catch Eladia off guard and disarm her.

Either way, if he didn't and she wanted to take a shot at him, the droid's body was made out of Phrik, one of the few materials durable enough to withstand strikes from a lightsaber, he could pull off that blocking blaster bolts with his hand trick.

Desmond was escorted back down stairs by the guards. He apologized again and they dismissed him with a wave. Then Des made his way to the bar. He ordered a Corellian whiskey and downed it. Then ordered another and another. Once he achieved a nice buzz. A mental capacity which he referred to as "The only way to function". He wandered past a pair of nubile blondes. One a nice looking middle aged man the other a fair sited young lady. He back tracked a bit. Then lied to the blondes about the countless fortunes he had. When he was sure he had them hooked he offered them the chance to powder their nose with some prime "Kesselian marching powder" for good measure. Needless to say at the mention of spice both the rich bigots lifted their noses and told him to "Screw off". Can't blame a Chiss for trying.

Back to the task at hand.

Des made his way to the nearest holo terminal, inserted his data pad and the two devices began a cyber interface.

It went something like this

"Hey who are you?" Terminal

Desmond's data pad "Shhh... Call me Fabio,"

"Er.." terminal

"Just let my binary do all the work baby," Desmond's data pad

"Oh my," terminal

*explicit binary content*

"You might want to check yourself for server transmitted data after this," Desmond's data pad said as it exited the terminal jack.

"Sweet, i'm in," Desmond whispered to himself. He viewed the cameras and saw that he was right. It was a lady in the room and a droid was with her.

Maybe there in cahoots.. Well I got get me at least some of the loot. I spent two hundred credits on this suit!

Desmond's fingers tapped away and he gained access to the fire alarm. He activated it and sirens began whaling. All thought of exiting in a timely and orderly fashion was thrown out the door as everyone began to panick. Des forced his way past the crowd and climbed up the stairs. Just as he thought, the guards had abandoned post. No one wanted to die for a snob. Desmond tapped a few buttons on the door lock and his I.C.E. chip did the rest of the work. He withdrew an ion pistol from his coat and entered the room.

"GIVE ME ALL YOUR STUFF, THIS THING WORKS AS A TAZER TO I THINK," Des pointed the gun at the two would be burglars, but in his drunken stupor had forgotten to turn the safety off.

Eladia had known better than to try to intimidate a droid, but it was worth a shot. Suddenly her blaster was pulled from her grasp and flew into the droids hands, "Curious," she thought. She raised her hands above her head as a sort of peace offering. "I don't wish to harm you, I am just here to retrieve something and then I will be out of your way." She still wasn't absolutely sure if he was a friend of tonight's host or a fellow thief.

Before she had the chance to ask him, alarms started to sound and she could hear screams of panic from inside. If she was going to steal that painting it had to be now. She sprinted into the study and came face to face with a man who appeared inebriate and not in the sharpest frame of mind. He shouted at them, "GIVE ME ALL YOUR STUFF, THIS THING WORKS AS A TASER TO I THINK."

Eladia examined his weapon, an ion pistol that would do more damage to the droid than to herself. She looked back up at the man and said sarcastically, "All I have with me is an empty clutch. You are more than welcome to have it but I don't think sapphire is your color. Now why don't we all calm down before security realizes there isn't actually a fire and come investigate."

With fluid motion of just one finger as that pistol landed in his palm the droid removed both the plasma clip and battery pack, ammunition dropping down to the floor with a clang before the pistol was crushed in the machine's grip and joined the other components on the balcony's floor.

"You need to owe something first to retrieve it."

The machine quipped as his hand reached down to the hilt of his lightsaber, however he didn't had time to equip it, Eladia sprinted past him into the study before that, apparently deciding to steal that painting as suddenly fire alarms rung out throughout the building.

HK followed her into the room, obviously, bent on catching her and trying to talk some sense into her. Considering that Desmond had to go through being escorted by the guards, slicing, checking the cameras, pulling the alarm, and finally making his way back to the room, that would be where he found them, in the study room. So as he entered the room and waved his ion pistol around he would find the tall cloaked droid looking down him, just inches in front of the doorway where both he and Eladia stopped.

"Enough."

Machine commanded in the cold monotone, in quick reflex of his spindly arms he would try to catch Desmond's wrist in an Echani two-finger pinch-hold, bending it to the side in an uncomfortable position to force the pistol out of his hand, if he did succeeded in grappling him. Perhaps Desmond recognized the machine as the bounty hunter that took Causstik's eye and set him on fire before Desmond had to try and rescue him, because the droid's scanners clearly recognized Desmond, and the fact he had bounty on him.

Maybe in Eladia's mind a lightbulb would spark up as well, remembering tales of an ancient droid who was given a planet by an old Protectorate regime for cashing in a bounty on the lord of the Deathwatch after the Mandalorian traitor dropped a nuclear warhead on Mandalore's capital city. Or the stories of an armor clad droid wielding the lightsaber wandering the Galaxy and collecting bounties, not for credits or fame but to make sure Justice was done.

Either way, she would find that his free hand would reach out and try to grab her by her ear, yanking her back if he succeeded like a parent scolding a child.

(Ooc: You forgot the part where Des hit on the nubile blonde's HK. That was like the most important part!)

The woman offered Desmond her empty purse, but he wasn't quiet sure if she was being serious or funny. Either way Des didn't have the time to figure it out as the killing machine ran after the woman and caught up fairly quickly. HK-36 gripped Desmond's hand in a blur that Desmond's drunken mind didn't quite register. The pistol fell to the floor and the Chiss finally took a moment to fully analyze the situation.

"Oh hiya, HK! Sorry 'bout the whole Causstik business the guys a real jerk... Er... uh... I was just tryina find the bathroom,"

Desmond looked around the room. Dark, filled with books, and no apparent safe. Probably one under that painting the girl tried to nab. Des wriggled his hand free and rubbed it gently.

"You know for an assassin droid you'really pretty mean," He pouted.

Des watched HK atempt to grab the girl and figured now would be a pretty good time to inch his way over to the hidden vault. He slowly backed away from the pair and lifted the painting carefully. Bingo. He let the painting slide back into place.

"So, er... what now?"

Eladia looked at the droid, then the man, and then back to the droid. "Wait, so you two know each other?" She touched her fingers to her temples, "This night just gets better and better.."

Suddenly Eladia saw the Droid start to reach for her, she roundhouse kicked his hand away, "Hey! Easy, I thought we were cool." She took a step away from the Droid.

The man that had threatened her with a taser said, "So, er... what now?"

Eladia started to reply when she heard a knock on the door, from outside she could hear security trying to get in. It looked like their time was up. She turned and ran to the balcony but she could see three more down on the balcony below. Eladia darted back inside, "We're surrounded, anyone got any ideas?"

The droid remained by the door as the other two shambled away from it, he stomped with his foot on Desmond's ion pistol, the gadget crackling softly as it broke from the impact,

"He once stood between me and my target, it did not help much but he still has a bounty on his head."

There was a soft whir as forearm plates on his body moved aside and twin barrels of built-in blaster repeaters would appear on each of his arm, soon enough Eladia would find one was aimed towards her, the other was aimed towards Desmond,

"And we were 'cool' until it became quite clear the two of you are here to rob the man who invited me here to be his guest. You should not have assumed that I was your ally or friend in this."

He scanned between the two of them, ready to start firing if any of them tried something,

"So yes, I do have an idea."

HK's leg jerked back as he delivered a donkey kick into the door, the hard surface bulging back from the impact as the locking mechanism was broken open and the door was forced open by him in one brutal, swift movement,

"Surrender, kids, and in the future, do not try to steal from Mandalorians, if I would shoot you the only complaint they would have is that I did not shoot you more."

The shouts and movement outside the door would intensify, it would became clear that the room would soon enough be flooded with Mandalorian guards, so the two had a pretty limited range of choices, still go for the loot and face the machine in combat, work together to try to accomplish this and get out safely, or it was every being for themselves and just try to escape while they had the chance.

Feth.

Desmond's chances weren't looking very good. The droid had kicked open the door and a team of manly mandos were breaching the room. He hadn't expected HK to be here. Des held his hands in the air and pressed the center of his palm activating his holocom.

"Now listen pal, I don't know if you KNOW who I am. They call me the KRAYT DRAGON in the outer rim!" Des shouted his ships name in a atempt to open a comm frequency with the vessel. His eyes darted to his wrist. It worked, he was patched through.

"Now if I wanted to destroy this place, located at coordinates (0.214, 4.53). I totally could!" Des simply stood there awkwardly for a moment as nothing happened. He squirmed nervously under the barrels of multiple guns. The Krayt Dragon's Pearl was the fastest in the galaxy. Or at least, so Desmond claimed. Regardless it was fast enough. A large whoosh was heard as the vessel roared into the courtyard. It hovered above the manner just outside the balcony. Most of the paint was still peeled off and scorch marks from Des's last encounter with the droid caked it's hull.

"Now you will release me, or I will have that ship blow this place to smithereens!" Des bluffed. He looked around the room and saw the girl still standing there. His conscious got the better of him.

"And release her too!" Des added in quickly as he bent his wrist and pointed a dirty blue finger at Eladia

Eladia cursed to herself silently with her hands above her head, she knew never to be so naive as to trust anyone. She scanned the room as her blue associate spoke, she needed something to aid in their escape. Below her feet were some glass shards from the door being busted down, she slid her foot on top of one.

Suddenly she heard the beautiful whir of an engine behind her. Eladia laughed in disbelief, the drunken man had actually pulled it off! He threatened to blow them all to pieces, from the look of his ship it was unlikely, but a good bluff. And he demanded her freedom so there's that.

She turned her attention back to the droid, "You are made of metal but I know you are smart, let us go or you will regret it."

Hearing the noise of engines closing in, and ones he recognized from the previous encounter with Desmond, HK sent out a quick instant message to one Mandalorian he knew well from his bounty hunting days back when Protectorate was still around, [member="Verz Horak"],

Verz, it is HK here, I am on Mandalore, old Wren's place in Sundari outskirts, coordinates 0.214, 4.53. Some Hutt spacer crashed the party, has a ship hovering over head threatening to open fire, one of those old Muurian transports. If you could take it down that would be lovely.

"You are partially right."

The droid glanced to [member="Eladia Alken"], his two arms still aimed at her and Desmond,

"I am made of metal, Phrik to be precise, and I have seen his ship in action before."

He would glance to [member="Desmond C'artyom"] then,

"It does not have the firepower to melt through Phrik, or withstand Mandalorian anti-aircraft defenses. I have fought here against the Sith when they laid siege to the planet, their craft had trouble maintaining air superiority and the defenses have only gotten better since then. Do not bluff those who already know your hand."

How much of what HK said was true could be up to debate, he didn't exactly had access to statistical data at the moment to that battle, but he did serve in it, plus he did not exactly want to find out how well his body held up against starfighter fire, but Desmond wasn't the only one who could bluff. HK just hoped that Verz would deliver on the call to arms, or some other Mandalorian would step in, after all if there was anyone who would built guns into buildings just in case, it was Mandalorians.

Either way, Desmond would quickly see flashes of red aggressive light as HK opened fire from his wrist-mounted repeater, pushing himself off of the ground to run towards the Chiss, quickly advancing towards him, his other hand swinging away from Eladia to fire on Des as well, bringing in a rain of chaotic plasma in a spray. As much as HK would love to aim only for Desmond's non-vital areas to disable him and capture for a bounty, he couldn't exactly accurately aim something with as much spray as a blaster repeater, it did probably made the attack harder to dodge though.

As to Eladia, it would quickly become apparent that the droid didn't really cared about capturing or fighting her as the machine focused on Desmond, after all he was the one with a bounty on his head and she, as far as HK knew, was just some petty thief. In a way she was off the hook, away from the droid's focus, for now, although the Mandalorian guards inside the room may have still wished to capture her, if they did not decide to vacate the premises or focus on bringing down the freighter while they still could.

"Blast," The droid called Des's bluff. It was pretty obvious he couldn't just blow the building. I mean he was inside of it, but it had got him out of a pinch with these Gamorreans once.. So, can't blame a Chiss for trying. Then the droid began fireing both wrist lazers at Des. The lazers I might add, almost destroyed the beautiful piece of art. Shamey HK. Des withdrew another ion pistol and dove to the side. Looking rather bad a$$ as he fired the pistol mid leap, Des couldn't help but wonder if Eladia was watching. That and whether he pissed himself or not. Dis hit the ground with a THUD. He half crouched half sprinted for the balcony and atempted to jump towards his ship. But landed on the lower ground with yet another THUD.

"Feth,"

Everything happened in an instant.

The droid starting firing at the blue man with his repeater. Hopefully he was a fast runner because Eladia focused her attention on security, she immediately bent down and grabbed the glass shard.

At full force she ran towards the Mandalorians, she swiftly sliced the neck of the first one while narrowly avoiding a punch he swung towards her.

Now Eladia stood in between the second and third, they both ran towards her at the same time. Right as they were about to both reach her she jumped up and grabbed ahold of the chandler above their heads, the two guards collided and fell on the ground.

"Wow, I didn't think that would actually work." She thought.

She turned around just in time to see the man jump off the balcony. She weighed in her options, she could make a break for the door behind her and try to leave that way, or she could take the more exciting route. She decided on the latter.

Eladia swung both her legs, gaining momentum quickly, and leapt from the chandler over the droid and onto the balcony. She climbed onto the railing, saluted the droid, and fell backwards.

Verz had been alerted to something going on when the alert about a fire in an older building, where a party was going on. Supposedly there were offworlders, nobles and the like. The scarlet Mandalorian did not particularly care for nobles from other worlds. Mandalorians did not need fancy titles to be important, nor did they need vast sums of wealth to have authority. All they needed was respect. So when the alert about the fire came up, he did not particularly care. The firefighting teams would take care of it, and a detachment of Protectors would ensure the safety of the auretii.

Verz was about halfway through hismug of nectre'gal when his datapad chimed with a message alert. When Verz looked at the sender, he was quite surprised. [member="HK-36"] had sent him a message.

He hadn't heard from the droid in a long time. Since the collapse of the Protectorate at least. But his old friend needed help, and so Verz would give it. The burly warrior downed the last of his mug in one go, placed his buy'ce back on his head, and hailed the nearest Protector landspeeder, taking one of their standard issue blaster rifles from the arms compartment.

"Well, what are you waiting for? Lets get going!"

While they started heading towards the coordinates provided by HK, Verz activated his long range comms. If there was a hostile ship threatening to fire upon Mandalorian soil, well he couldn't have that. The Field Marshal level codes were old, but he was still authorized to use them. He called to a ship that he knew was in-system and active.

"This is Marshal Horak to the Buurenaar. We have a vessel that is about to open fire on Mandalorian soil. Providing coordinates."

The droid cared little for paintings made by others, he did actually paint himself, so destroying others' work just kind of seemed like thinning down the competition. Either way, he did not stood still as the others react, when Desmond reached for his pistol the droid reached down to his own belt, the barrels of his repeater hiding back within his forearm plates as he grabbed the hilt of his lightsaber,

BZZZZZZSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHH

The room would be suddenly filled with the sound of a lightsaber activating and the pulse of light as HK's saber erupted with its pure-white blade erupting and casting the shadows away, it emanated a strangely alien peaceful, serene sensation, an aura of Light Side coming off of its Force-imbued Solari crystal.

WHOOOOOOOM
BWOM-BWOM-BWOM

An ion bolt whizzed by the droid, aimed at his head he moved it aside to dodge the projectile as he charged towards the leaping Chiss, pushing himself off of the ground with heavy steps and rhythmic clanking of his armor as Eladia swung herself overhead on a chandelier.

WHOOOO-PEW-PEW,

Closing in on Desmond the droid reached out with his foot to try and kick him, only to miss and his the tile beneath, cracking it as Desmond made a rush towards the balcony, firing another two ion shots, this time to be deflected away into the nearby wall with smooth, precise movement of his white lightsaber, its path calculated precisely by his tracking programming.

WHMMMMMMMMM
THUD

HK's saber hummed as he sprinted after Desmond towards the balcony, as Eladia saluted him she could see the machine not too far away from her, ready to pounce, the white saber slashing through the air as he moved. He threw out his other hand, with another pulse from the gravity manipulation glove, aiming it at her this time to push her just as she fell back, trying to screw up her balance and mess with her landing if he could.

Once he got to the balcony he grabbed it with one hand and slung himself over in one smooth movement, Desmond would be able to see the droid overhead falling with his large feet aimed right at him, the black cloak fluttering in anger, saber burning bright from his hand.

tumblr_mac51a1LzC1rztcv6o1_500.gif
Whatever happened, soon enough they could see that ship sent by [member="Verz Horak"] looming overhead, and the droid muttered to himself,

"Verz, you beautiful bastard, I am going to kiss you."

Desmond sat where he lay for a moment completely stunned. He turned just in time to see HK's large metallic frame flying towards him. Flying or falling? Des was still a little too dazed to tell the distance. He rolled out of the way just as the droid hit the ground. Then Des finally noticed the lightsaber in his hand. He shook his head in disbelief... That fall really must've did a number. Des shot up from the ground and began a dead sprint. As a coward he specialized in running away. He fired his Ion pistol a couple of times in the direction of the droid, then barked into his comms

"Krayt! Activate tractor beam and grab Eladia!" He really hoped the girl could fly a ship. He also really hoped she wouldn't leave his shebs behind. Why is it Des always ended up helping the worst people only to get screwed over time and time again. Fething Solan Charr still hadn't payed him back for the jedi's medical bills...
