A most uncommon teacher [Niman Lesson]

Darlyn had felt the odd urge, lately, to try his hand at teaching. He wanted to pass on some kind of knowledge on. He didn't know why, but he wasn't going to argue with it, instead he was just going to get down to work. With James working back in his office to keep things going smoothly, Darlyn was free to organize a lesson today in the Praxeum. He'd sent out a few alerts to those he felt would be most interested, namely Auburn, his nephew, and a couple others. With any luck there wouldn't be too many, and he wouldn't feel stressed to fully manage himself.

For now he just sat inside one of the dojos for the Praxeum, his lightsabers resting on the ground beside him as he hummed quietly. He was meditating quietly, watching the somewhat small order of Commenor's member base mingle about as he waited for the first few people to come in. The Dojo was clean, large, and had plenty of training sabers for however many people were to come. There were definitely a few coming who were going to need something.

The Way of the Rancor, The moderation Form, The diplomat’s form, Form Vi

Jasper, in a way didn’t care what the form was called. He just wanted to learn the techniques and skills from the form to better prepared himself in the future. He wanted to learn as much as he could while it was possible and Niman seems to be another lightsaber combat form that he felt should be put into his style of combat. Not that he fights every single day, but as a just in case he needed to fight. Something he hoped he didn’t have to do anytime soon. He did have one problem with learning the form that he was going to be doing today: he requirements of learning the form.

Not in the form of not having a lightsaber. He was certain that training lightsabers were going to be supplied. It’s not the lack of a lightsaber that worried him, more so the core belief of the form itself. That, from what he gathered from looking at information on it at the library in the Jedi temple, that he would need to be creative when using it which was not a good thing for Jasper. He didn’t think of himself as a creative person if it meant anything. He never really drew pictures in different way that others did or follow rules in a different way such as crossing a street or walkway within the line instead of crossing the street when no ship was around. Of course, Jasper did have to do things like that but only in serious situations. He thought that maybe he could make the form work if he tried hard enough after thinking about it for a few minutes while walking toward the class.

Finally making it to where the area was taking place he sees only one person awaiting the students to arrive. He noticed him meditating and thought about disturbing him to let him know he here but decided not to because he felt that what the man was doing was important to him and didn’t want to the be the one to interrupt him. Instead he walked over to a part of the area and waiting calmly for others to arrive. He actually liked this, being the first one here since he can better take notes of who there for the class.

Lesson Tutor: [member="Darlyn Excron"].
Subject: Niman.

It had been a long time since Caedyn had visited his Home-world. He had truly missed being there, though the memories of it all still weighed heavy over his heart. There were connections made and severed there, as well as his family whom today were struggling to retain themselves amongst all the political strife in the Galaxy. It was his hope that his Uncle's lesson in Niman, would be a distraction and give himself something good to feel about returning to Commenor.

Caedyn Arenais wasn't a trained Jedi, hell he was barely up to the standard of a Padawan in the Order. He had been raised among the Je'daii Order, whom were now scarce and no longer active. His ideologies and learned theories were similar in some sense, but he had yet to grasp what it meant to be a Jedi and what it was that defined them among other Force Practitioners. [member="Asaraa Vaashe"] and [member="Yuroic Xeraic"] were helping him to get there, but it was a long path that he had committed himself to. Perhaps today's form of saber combat would prove too advanced without the knowledge of former more basic of Jedi forms that were usually taught to students of the Order, however it wasn't in his nature to turn down the opportunity to learn something new.

Upon his arrival, Caedyn was guided by one of the other members of the Order of Commenor, lead to the Dojo of which his Uncle, [member="Darlyn Excron"] awaited, with only one other having made it thus far. Moving to stand alongside [member="Jasper Candos"], he smiled to the fellow student before looking ahead to Darlyn and giving a subtle wave. If anything, he expected that today's lesson would prove interesting, and it was nice to see his Uncle again after so much time.

It had been far too long since the Queen has met with her "boyfriend" as he would be called on other planets. Other cultures had such cute names for courting and romantic partners! An almost giddy smile graced Auburn's features as she walked through the trees towards the building. Upon her arrival a man from what she assumed to be the Order of Commenor greeted her, and lead her to the dojo. Those inside would probably feel her Light Side presence before she even entered the room quietly. As she entered, a small giggle escaped her throat at the sight of Darlyn. Ignoring the two other men in the room, Auburn walked up to Darlyn, leaned down, and kissed his temple.

"Dia dhuit, a mhuirnín."

Niman, huh? Kahlil stepped into the room, rubbing the back of his neck. He wasn't really here to learn Niman as it's whole. Utilizing the more offensive forms was something that he wanted to avoid. Soresu was enough. But Niman had one thing the other forms severely lacked. Incorporating the Force seamlessly into both attacks and defense. [member="Jasper Candos"] was a familiar sight, which was nice given he barely recognized [member="Darlyn Excron"] .

Wait. Why was [member="Auburn Sioda"] kissing him? That's not how you treat your teacher. Who was she?

No, ignore that. He kept near the back for now, scratching his chin as he glanced away. Hopefully the lesson would start soon.

Commenor was a completly New planet for Sigyn. She had slightly heard of the invasion that had happened some time ago, mostly that it had been the sith that tried to invade, but were beaten.

But now, she was going to this planet, to learn the Sixth form of the jedi lightsaber forms. From what she had been told, this one was a combination of the five forms that had been designed before this one. She still wasn't ready to use a lightsaber as her weapon of Choice yet, but it would be fun to learn the combat forms, and it couldn't hurt to do it.

The ship she was one touched Down Close to the building where the lesson was to be held. Sigyn's first thought upon exiting the ship, was that this planet was completly different than Midvinter. And it was hot here too. Not hotter than the other planets she had been one With the jedi, but still too hot for her taste. So she quickly entered the Praxeum.

There, she found her way to the Place the lesson was to be held. Other People had already arrived, some she knew, some she didn't. But she knew most of them, at least somewhat. [member="Jasper Candos"] and her had been in training lessons together, and she had met [member="Caedyn Arenais"] on a Beach day the jedi had held. [member="Kahlil Zambrano"] had been her teacher earlier, so it was a surprise seeing him among the students here. The two remaining People were unknown to her, though. But from the looks of it, the two of them knew each other.

Now, it was only to wait for the lesson to start.

Well gee, apparently some things had changed on Commenor, after all.

Caedyn looked in in surprise as [member="Auburn Sioda"] moved across the room and to [member="Darlyn Excron"]'s side, kissing his Uncle in front of the rest of the Class. It might have actually been the first time that he had seen his Uncle given affection of any sort outside of the trust that he had always been given from Caedyn's parents. Honestly it was a nice change, and also meant that [member="Shoden Moz"] might have a bit more of a stable influence around, in the form of a fellow female role model.

Chuckling quietly under his breath, Caedyn didn't make any comments like he usually might in private. Today, Darlyn was to be their tutor and with that role, came a certain hierarchy in the classroom that required respect and conformity to an extent. Turning his attention to his peers, his gaze swept across [member="Sigyn Vanir"], [member="Kahlil Zambrano"] and [member="Jasper Candos"], only the first of them seeming familiar in any way though he couldn't exactly place where. Offering a friendly smile to them all the same, he felt eager to see what was in store for them in this lesson.

These would be enough students. Darlyn watched each step in, how they stood and acted. Through the Force, he could sense each glowing with the Light, a not unexpected but somewhat disappointing turn of events. Surely they could all sense the Dark within him, even restrained as he was making it. Then again perhaps each student here had kept an open mind, or otherwise were too oblivious of the events from one another's own light to make notice. [member="Jasper Candos"], [member="Sigyn Vanir"], even the noticeably brighter [member="Kahlil Zambrano"] were all in that group of whom he did not have an inkling of their perceptions. With [member="Caedyn Arenais"] at least, he knew it was their familial sort of bond that kept his mind open, as well as his own history without the Jedi. [member="Auburn Sioda"] though was the only one to whom her motivations for looking past such details was, blatant.

Well, the students were here, best to get started. He rose up to his feet, the lightsabers rising by the Force to clip to his belt as he pulled Auburn down gently, returning her kiss with a small one of his own. "And Hello to you too, Fireheart. Best fall back with the rest of class for now, we'll continue this evening." It was quietly said, but it was a quiet room anyways so it hardly would've mattered. Still, with that matter settled, the Dark Jedi took a few steps back and looked at each student for a moment. "I hope you weren't expecting a lecture on theory and principles. I don't exactly think you can all learn how to use Niman with such things. For those who care, Niman is a form of moderation with its bladework. If you know the basic premise of each prior form, then you can understand that Niman is simply the application of them all without exceptional focus on any one aspect. If Makashi is a form focused solely on thrusts and cuts for instance, Niman uses them as is appropriate, without hampering our ability to rain down heavy swings."

Darlyn lifted a hand, and made a 'come hither' motion towards one of the walls, where the training sabers were located. Enough for the class and himself came flying out, landing roughly by each student's feet, and one in his hand. "The only thing unique to Niman's style, is a heavy focus on utilizing the Force in combat. To keep one's self open to the flow of the Force amidst combat may sound simple enough, but Niman mastery means the use of Force strikes and techniques are as instinctual as any bladework. Drawing opponents into your blade, using a force blast in all directions to force anemies back after a missed swing, these are things that were developed for the Form itself. Niman rewards any and all creativity and punishes strict adherence to rules and form. There are probably as many variations of Niman as there are users, with little to call the core of the form."

"As such, this is going to be different than teaching you practice velocities and having you drill the principles into memory. I want you all to pick up the training sabers and find the stance that feels the most right to you. Then we will begin." Then he did so himself, activating his newly acquired blue training saber, and holding the weapon seemingly loosely by his side. Of course, Caedyn would recognize this as one of Darlyn's usual, actual stances in a fight rather than simply him standing comfortably. The boy had probably seen his Uncle in combat a few times at least.

They kissed. Again. Was [member="Auburn Sioda"] trying to get some sort of favor out of [member="Darlyn Excron"] ? Was it some sort of love scandal? A student and a teacher, falling in love but being unable to take the time for each other because of their lives outside of the classroom, and thus forced to hold any romantic encounter within the four walls of his place of learning. Or one was unable to show any interest in public for they would loose their position as a teacher! Of course! That had to be it.

Kahlil seemed to shrink in the back of the classroom, his gaze falling to the ground as a faint hue of red took over his cheeks. A romantic at heart, that much was clear. Eventually the thoughts faded once Darlyn began the lesson, and his brown eyes lifted to watch eagerly. A form about mixing the force with lightsaber work? Even if he didn't take the style farther then it's basics, it would help him mix many different abilities fluidly into his Soresu.

With a wave of his hand the young man called up the saber that had landed by his feet. With a quick press of the button a green blade erupted, and he did his best to copy Darlyn's opening stance.

Jaspers eyes were shifted toward another person the second he saw another person come into the room, no doubt to learn the sixth form of lightsaber combat like him. ([member="Caedyn Arenais"]) Upon the classmate moving next to Jasper, Jasper felt a small tight hold on his gut. He wanted to show it, but he was feeling a bit uncortable being near the person that choose to stand next to him. He never liked people standing next to him and it was mostly due to his past and how he would sometimes have to deal with people that stood near him, mostly with malice intentions. He moves a bit away from the man without causing a bit of attention and when the man smiled, Jasper did a small barely noticeable smile back at him. It’s wasn’t genuine as he only wanted to make it seem that he was comfortable and didn’t wanted to raise any suspicion onto to him.

Soon the next person came into the room ([member="Auburn Sioda"]). A woman whose looked to be order than him through he couldn’t tell how old. He felt relieved with the woman passed by and ignored him. However the clamminess that was starting to come back to him after a few minutes of moving from the other person was disrupted when he witness the woman kissing what seem to the teacher ( @@Darlyn Excron) Jasper was shocked and caught off guard. He really didn’t expect to two people kissing in what was supposed to be a class. The teenager part of him kicked in and he did whatever he could to make it seem like he didn’t cared at all on what was happening in front of him. Turning his head sideward to look at the other things in the area, looking down on his shoes to check on their conditions, and even reminding himself of the things he learned so far in the temple from all the way back at the beginning of being there.

Another person enter the room next ([member="Kahlil Zambrano"] ) and didn’t do much which normally would had interested Japser but was too focus on distracting himself from the kissing session in order to do Soon another woman came in the room ([member="Sigyn Vanir"] ) but once again Jasper was distracted as before. The kiss ended however and Jasper was finally able to focus again on the two that came in. He looked over the grown man (Zambrano) and wondered if he was here for the class. He looked to be at adult age already and it make him think of the possibly of even order people learning to become Jedi and if it would still be learning once he get to that man age. He seem mostly people that are the same age as him or even younger partake in classes like these but not people who looked ot be in their twenties. As for the woman(Vanir), he vaguely remembered her from the other class he did with her on form 3 and he made him a little bit comfortable knowing he at least know someone in this class.

The teacher soon got up and rose to his feet which made Jasper forget about everything around him…even the kiss and focused on what he was about to say. He was disappointed with he was told along with the rest that he was getting an lecture as he liked that, but relented as he was given info on Niman, what it was, how it worked and other info on it.

Taking one of the training lightsaber that were set up adjacent to each other. Jasper quickly example the saber he taken and went back to where he was before. He saw the couple kissed then and questioned what he was getting himself into with this class. He realized things were going to be different when he left his home planet but this different?

He turned on his lightsaber and went into a stance that saw him put his left foot forward and right foot back. The stance that most form l users use.

This lesson would certainly prove interesting. Caedyn's style of melee combat wasn't based upon any particular form but a combination of techniques that he had acquired from his time with the Je'daii, yet his Uncle Dar had said that Niman used or was at the very least, similar to the other six forms that were practiced by the Jedi. 'How hard can that be?' he figured, given his prior training and success where dueling others had gone thus far into his experience. Rather than choosing to opt out of the lesson, the least he could do was try to take the theory on-board, if nothing else.

When [member="Darlyn Excron"] called the training sabers fourth, Caedyn's right hand snapped out in-front of him, palm open and summoning his training hilt into hand before it could hit the ground. He couldn't help but offer his uncle a smirk and a shake of his head, 'Leave to it Uncle Dar to throw lightsabers at his students' he silently mused. Their family shared a lot of harmless teasing and banter with one another, and while it was true that Darlyn was a somewhat different tutor than the typical Jedi, the only one that judged him for these differences came from his own mind, and no one else's. Caedyn had learned early on, his Uncle's worry about being perceived as the opposition given his affinity in the Dark Side of the Force; Caedyn had been taught to use the practices of Bogan too however, and had also been taught to judge others based upon their actions as opposed to the rumor's going on around them, or their apparent affiliated outside parties.

The weight of his training saber was somewhat lighter than Caedyn's personal hilt, though it was as standard as Lightsabers came, these particular models made in bulk for students across the Galaxy training under the many different organizations of the Jedi today. Rather than igniting the blade, he chose to wait and see what was expected of them all, his eyes falling back upon his uncle in patient anticipation.

Auburn smiled into the gentle kiss Darlyn gave her, and leaned back to stand at her full height. She brushed her hand against his gently, before stepping back with the rest of the students and pulling the training saber at her feet to her hand. She had seen one similar on Darlyn during their first meeting, but had no idea it was a weapon. She turned it in her hand curiously, inspecting it. From what she could tell, the blade itself activated at the press of a button... But which side did it come out of? Thinking she had the emitter facing out, the royal went to activate it, before the hilt flipped in her hand.

Guess she didn't have it right after all.

After activating the saber, and getting used to the lack of weight she was used to with traditional Anam blades, she got into her stance. Right arm and right leg forward, left leg just slightly back, torso turned just slightly to the left, back straight, shoulders relaxed, face forward. The words of her long gone mother's lessons echoed in her mind:

Stand like you're a goddess among mortals, and no one can touch you.

Right then, they took to it well enough. One of his students was awkwardly trying to imitate him, clearly not fully comfortable with the relaxed stance Darlyn himself preferred. [member="Kahlil Zambrano"] was going to need time to find his comfort if he wanted to take advantage of Niman, beyond the basic principles anyways. Slightly better was the young boy [member="Jasper Candos"], who took the basic Shii-Cho stance, out of comfort or simply for lack of experimenting and learning? Either way, he did not look like an awkward child so it was a vast improvement, and gave Darlyn a few thoughts on how he could illustrate for him Niman's ideals. His beloved [member="Auburn Sioda"] took a moment of saving, with a subtle hand movement to keep her from awkwardly impaling herself with the training weapon. Of all the students she had the most defined stance, but likely the least training. An amusing juxtaposition...

Then his nephew [member="Caedyn Arenais"] chose to wait and observe. Well then, he supposed that worked for something. Would probably embarrass him a bit when the opportunity came. "Well, some success is better than none. If you're trying to imitate how I hold myself you misunderstand what I want from you. Niman's classical stances are relaxed and many are similar to a fool's guard, with the blade arm resting. But for a practical user, whatever they find appropriate is Niman's stance. Be it Shii-Cho, Soresu, or otherwise. If it is the stance you feel most at ease with, then it is the stance you should take." He began to calmly walk across the room, pacing in front of them all so he could look at each of them, just a little bit better.

"Niman requires you to be at ease, because it is when you can most easily feel the flow of the Force. Remember, our goal is to be able to feel and use the Force even in the chaos of a fight. The first step is to feel most comfortable, and at ease with your blade and how it rests. So if you're a bit slow and still need to find the most natural stance for yourself, please take the time to do so." He gave his nephew a smirk as he walked by saying that, he was a good student but a bit unprepared for him. Darlyn had only been taught by himself after all, mostly in the middle of combat.

"Now I want you to relax your mind, and reach out with your senses. Feel the Force flowing through your body even as you stand ready to fight. Open to the Force, with your weapon in hand. This should be your mindset, almost meditating without doing so. It does not take a genius to do this, most anyone can take a break from combat to find their center like this. I want you to take a few practice swings until you feel you can maintain your near-meditation without breaking it by moving."

Auburn was glad she was at the front of the class, lest the young ones in the room notice the quiet confusion on her face. She had no idea what all these words meant, but, she was here to learn! So, her mhuirnín wanted her to meditate, hm? Simple enough, she had to do it all the time when she was learning pyromancy. It helped the queen immensely that they were in a heavily forested area. She always loved being surrounded by plants during meditation. Of course, her meditation process would likely be vastly different from these children.

Breathe. Feel the fire within you. Give it life. Feed it with your breath. Feel it grow. Watch it spread throughout your body. Let the Flame of Life warm your very bones, and feel your soul burn with the passion of the flames. You, are the fire. You, are life itself. Embrace it.

Auburn's teacher's word played in her mind as she relaxed, and felt the Force flow through her, in the form of Fire.
